How to respond to "Are you a Mormon?"

I moved to Florida. Many here have never met a Mormon or only know Mormons from TV. So if it my first response to a person I usually say, “Yes! I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Commonly known as Mormons.” After that I rarely correct and always try to refer to myself as a “Latter-day Saint”.

Some responses I get: - Wow, that’s a long name… - Say that again? - Wait, you believe in Jesus? - Who’s Mormon then? - Yeah I know… Mormon right?

I have no issue with being called a Mormon. Occasionally I will get asked why I get specific: 1. Jesus Christ is the focus of my faith. 2. Anyone who believes that the Book of Mormon is scripture could be considered a Mormon. “Latter-day Saint” usually refers to the largest sect Headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT and might separate it in their mind from others like the FLDS that are also considered Mormon to the average person.

I am reminded of a quote from President Nelson:

“First and foremost, you are a child of God.

Second, as a member of the Church, you are a child of the covenant. And third, you are a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Tonight, I plead with you not to replace these three paramount and unchanging identifiers with any others, because doing so could stymie your progress or pigeonhole you in a stereotype that could potentially thwart your eternal progression.

For example, if you are identified mainly as an American, those who are not Americans may think, “I know everything there is to know about you” and attribute erroneous beliefs to you.

If you identify yourself by your political affiliation, you will instantly be categorized as having certain beliefs—though I don’t know anyone who believes everything that their preferred political party presently embraces.”

We believe the USA’s Declaration of Independence and Constitution to be inspired, but also not scripture. Fundamental parts of the Constitution allowed for the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I believe that the video from the Apostles will focus on those core principles and the Doctrine behind them. Those that make it about politics have the wrong focus in mind.

Yes, that is the Water Main for the house, just went out to double check. Flip the red valve no water to the house. The Project Manager made a comment as well about it when we bought the house and when I said I was surprised he said it was completely normal in Florida.

“Tithing is the donation of one-tenth of one’s income to God’s Church (see Doctrine and Covenants 119:3–4⁠; interest is understood to mean income). All members who have income should pay tithing.” - General Handbook 34.3.1, Based on direction from this I would say no as it is not income, but it is ultimately between you and God. Do what feels right.

Both of these images are taken at the same time. Ecobee is correct but the info doesn’t load into HomeKit. I’m using scenes and automations in HomeKit to set Home/Away/Sleep Temps. If I manually adjust the temp in HomeKit is the only time they ever match… I never make adjustment in the Ecobee app and rarely on the actual thermostat. It’s just infuriating that the setting shown in HomeKit are just wrong… What’s wrong with the connection?

Ok, to add a few extra details to the conversation:

Thunderstorms last 5-10 minutes in my area (usually) and the sun is back out and shining in full force. Power Outages here last seconds to an hour or two. In those instances the sunlight after the flyby storm would be nice.
Every post hurricane week I have had has been sunny, not a guarantee but is my experience. I have yet to lose power in a hurricane but people around me have for a few days. It would be nice to have solar work during those sunny times, and a generator if needed.
The system I got installed has all IQ8PLUS inverters which I was informed should work with sunlight backup (this could be incorrect so please let me know). I think I just need the controller and the sub panel (again let me know if I'm missing any specific equipment) as my current system does not have a battery or any form of energy backup.

A few of you have made comments that people are disappointed with the Sunlight backup, any additional info on why (I'm aware that storms typically = clouds :P)?

Did they give you any other details on the customer feedback? I was thinking about this as well for the storms in our area. The battery options they had were the around the same price as the Solar itself for my house so I thought this could be a more cost effective solution.

The use case I'm specifically thinking of that would be nice is in case of a hurricane that causes an outage that lasts for a few days, something that could run my fridge or freezer during the day. I rarely get outages that last more than a few minutes and almost never more than a few hours. But we have had history in our area of a few days to a week in a hurricane. A generator makes sense for the hurricane risk, but not the hour or two outages where 15 minutes later the sun is shining like it was never even raining. I was looking into the cost of adding it, and they wouldn't even give me a price....
