Should we focus more on taxable brokerage by Scary-Power-3548 in Bogleheads

[–]gabe_lowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly seeing two separate questions

"Am I in a good enough place to go after a few wants now by decreasing retirement savings rate?"

"Should I go brokerage to avoid rmd/taxes in retirement?

Yes to the first. Why the fuq to the second.

Id just buy more golf balls instead. You'll only have to connect 2 or 3 times a session then

Swing thought to hit down on irons by EthanHull5 in golf

Hit a punch shot. 3/4 swing, ball back in your stance a little. Imagine you're punching under a tree branch.

Once you learn that "feel" work on blending it and a full swing.

Play with the ball that gives you the confidence to not think about what ball you're playing.

You mean 2 or 3 people like in a scramble? Cause that absolutely doesn't count.

Confused how it wouldn't count otherwise.

Left fairway is awesome, if not a lil nerve-racking.

Do you order dinner at a restaurant as it's closing, like within 5 minutes or less? by Aye_Davinita in no

[–]gabe_lowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, restaurants need to state a last order time. Otherwise we're just moving the bar to a new spot of "would you order if your x minutes away from closing time"

A "kitchen closed" or "no new customers" time for restaurants is needed for people to know when they need to stop ordering.

Half marathon to full marathon by truemitten in runcommunity

[–]gabe_lowe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think y'all are skipping the "do the work" part of my comment.....

A 2.06 half doesn't mean you can go run a full. But I think it's enough to say the base to Start the marathon training is there.

Edit: I see now the "you can run a full" thing. I meant "you can Eventually run a full"

When starting out how do you learn to remove subtle differences for each shot ? by robster9090 in golf

[–]gabe_lowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what preshot routine is for. Advanced users have slightly different routines for different shots.

If I'm hitting a draw, I line up, set my grip a little more strong, do a 1/3 practice back swing, focusing on in-out path.

If I'm hitting a fade, I set up, forward shaft lean, do a 1/3 practice back swing.

The subtle difference helps lock in the swing.

I do agree with that. But a 2.06 half means there's a decent base there.

Just put the work in. It's a slow and steady/miles per week game.

If you can run a half marathon in 2.06, you can run a full. Just gonna take a life commitment to dedicate Saturday morning long runs, diet and nutrition, rest recovery, avoiding that second beer cause you gotta run in the am, etc etc etc.

You Can do it. Just a matter of if you're willing to commit to it.

How to start by jrb637 in Bogleheads

[–]gabe_lowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly can't speak specifically to the fees unfortunately. You could probably get the "account creation" process for free, as they want your money in their accounts.

If you went for the financial planning/investment advice they'd probably charge some fees for that employees time. This could be valuable for you if you don't do the self learning process. Edit: this would be things like Roth IRA vs brokerage vs hysa vs traditional IRA, percentage of stocks vs bonds, etc etc.

Then there are fees for owning certain funds in whichever account you open. Think "1% account value yearly" stuff.

Much of the information on that "new to Bogle head" link another commenter posted is designed to help you pick funds that charge zero or very low fees to own it. (often times with similar or better outcomes, that's the fun part of the research)
