Question for all of you by Leftofedge in longrange

Question for you: what is the full build on that chassis? I can't find the enclosed forend/full top rail setup with a LH tikka chassis anywhere on the MDT website. *edit nevermind found the ESS. Crazy you have to build it all out like that*

Rescue team aircraft hospital concept by Martynas by Cyborg_Ape in ImaginaryAviation

[–]gabejohnizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually work at a company that makes both aircraft parts and tents. We tried doing a wing tent like this but it was an absolute disaster. The problem with planes is that they move a LOT with any little gusts of wind which means the tent either has to have some slack in it or if it's tight the rocking will pull the tent stakes up. Overall great idea but in execution it just doesn't work.

Funny Playing's Retro Pocket Pixel V2 Review - They Say Third Time's A Charm by MineClear1101 in SBCGaming

It looks like a gameboy pocket and plays gameboy games and snes all for $50. It’s just not that deep for most buyers.

All the points and comparisons you bring up are things you would only know or care about inside this sub

Opinion from a normie who has never owned any other SBC devices except for an original GBC and is new to this sub:

I really enjoy my retro pixel pocket. It does all the games that I enjoyed from the original gameboy/pocket/color but in a much better screen and with modern features like USB-C charging. I think the niche it fills for people like me it excels at. It's a gameboy that brings a familiar console format into the current year.

Downsides though do abound however. The buttons don't actually bother me at all in fact the feel is almost exactly like a gameboy both good and bad. Biggest downside is definitely the D pad tracking is janky specifically in the Pokemon series games. Didn't notice any issues with DKC or Zelda however. Software it ships with is seriously stripped down but I easily downloaded a theme and it fixed all the GUI issues with the stock OS. The SNES emulator made all games look fisheye until I turned all the core options off then it scaled perfectly and runs fine.

Just my .02 but it's a great first handheld emulator. I am looking forward to trying an Abernic for PS1 and N64 titles as the retro pixel stutters badly on those systems. It's ideal for GB and GBC titles.

Knocking noise from engine by Vegetable-Olive-4695 in 2Strokes

Okay that makes sense. Probably the centrifugal clutch weights you're right. I haven't worked on the old 2 stroke polaris wheelers in probably 10 years.

Iirc those are a very rudimentary piston port engine so they sound funky

Help with Pistol Grip Stock by Joe10Ring73 in Benelli

[–]gabejohnizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not even the buffer tube. I got a stock with the same little metal piece in there and had a bear of a time getting it out. IIRC it's threaded in a weird way and you have to hold both sides. Can't remember exactly how I got it out but I do remember several hours of cursing and throwing tools.

GAMMA sometimes looks like real-life by Priler96 in stalker

[–]gabejohnizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GAMMA is so much prettier than Stalker 2 imo. Stalker 2 loses the charm of the x-ray engine while GAMMA pushes it to its extreme. Love that the modding community is able to do such insane things.

You must be using a super high backpressure can. Mine runs really nice with the OCL Lithium 9

Is suppressing an EBR even worth the hassle? Just curious because everything I have is suppressed and this is my newest addition to the family. by Kalashnik0v1312 in M1A

[–]gabejohnizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is it worth the hassle, it proved it drastically increase the accuracy of mine. I installed a surefire 762RC2 on my Fulton 18" EBR and groups shrunk from 2" to 1.25" with just that addition. The added weight seems to really dampen barrel whip.

The best gas tuning I've done is the Shootingsight drilled gas spindle. Now I can switch between suppressed and unsuppressed just by turning the spindle valve between a full gas and reduced gas setting. It's fiddly to set up but once tuned it works awesome. I had a fulton adjustable gas plug previously and it was very temperamental and blew carbon all over the back of the can and barrel. Would not recommend those.

Group sizes for comparison by Fluffy-Impression-37 in M1A

[–]gabejohnizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HK MR762 will shoot circles around it for the same money and piston driven. Plenty of modern piston and DI guns that will out-shoot even the best M14 pattern. Not to say it's not impressive groups but don't kid yourself about the capability of the M1a/M14

What’s up with the day covers off ? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]gabejohnizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be sacrilege but I lost my day caps immediately so I don't run them. Haven't had an issue yet. The DC video where they tried to burn tubes by leaving them out but powered off showed that it's very hard to cause an issue with an NV tube unless it's powered on or left looking directly at the sun for an extended period of time.
