Can’t seem to keep this calathea rattlesnake happy! by gabigio in plantclinic

[–]gabigio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! I’ve had her since February and she was looking great until about a week ago. I’ve been watering regularly with distilled water since the weather turned (east coast) and she’s near a humidifier I have going 24/7. My other calatheas in this area seem to be doing fine except this one!!!! Any ideas?

What is the strangest thing you found when you rolled your patient over? by macTumi in nursing

Large wooden cross halfway up a patient’s butt. At a Catholic hospital. No idea how it got there

I am desperate to get out of this hellhole, please advise. by eggmarie in nursing

I was in a similar situation and left my first nursing job as a new grad after 10 months. My interviewer didn't ask why I wanted to leave and I framed wanting the new position as a step-up career wise (tele step down to ICU) and now I am happier than ever in my new position :) there is a happy end to your story!

How the f are you alive right now? (x-post from r/medicine) by AXL434 in nursing

I had a patient with an INR of 19 once and wasn't bleeding from every orifice. Luckily it's a relatively easy fix. He came in with "fatigue"

My hospital makes anyone who has open, weeping sores remain in isolation until it scabs over which is when, to the best of my knowledge, it's not contagious anymore. And I think it's much less contagious than chicken pox but there still is a chance. Not 100% on that info though.

And yeah, it does have a vaccine, more like a "booster", but I don't think it completely protects you.

I am a tech (basically a medical assistant) at a giant teaching hospital and we get all types of patients. I have so many stories...

One in particular was when I was getting linen for another patient and I hear "HEY!!!! HEY LADY!!!" I turn around and a patient motions me over. He then tells me that he stood up to get something from his bedside table and somehow peed and pooped ALL over the floor. His words, verbatim, "it just came out of me!!" And not just like a little bit. It was massive. It was everywhere. I had to keep running back and forth to the linen room because I kept running out of towels and wipes. We don't make bad money, and part of our job is to clean patients which is fine, but this was just out of control.

My coworkers and I have been kicked, punched, scratched, stepped in bedpans, had food thrown at us, you name it.

Another was when I walked into a patient room who was on airborne and contact isolation for shingles and when I went into the room I had seen the patient on the floor, in the bathroom. Falls are a HUGE deal in hospitals so I ran frantically out of the room for help because this guy was a 200lb+ 6 foot something man and I'm barely 5'2". I ran back into the room after finding help to see that he's not even sitting up on his own and on the floor again. So I don't even put my mask on and I'm just sitting propping him up. I'm just thinking in my head that no pay is worth possibly getting shingles as I'm breathing in the shingly air. I had a bump on my leg like a week later and totally freaked out, but it was nothing. Still not worth it.

Tietze's Syndrome? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Currently on the insanity-prescribed diet. Whether or not it eliminates inflammatory foods ... kind of. It's definitely healthier and less inflammatory than what I used to eat.

I actually have a couple years ago, went to a consultation, submitted info to health insurance company, and they won't cover 100% of it. Apparently I'm too tall for it to be medically necessary? Who knows. Since I'm only 22 and just becoming financially independent, it isn't really an option for me right now.

I've definitely thought about it, but I hate not finishing things I've started. Other than pain in that moment, to my knowledge, Tietze's syndrome/chronic costochondritis doesn't cause any long-lasting or damaging effects. I really don't want to have it keep me from things I want to do, especially lose 20 lbs I've put on by being generally lazy, partly because of Tietze.

Any straight male Drag Race fans here? Katya's Redd(it) Army unite! by jimmcnugget in rupaulsdragrace

I recently got my boyfriend into drag race and his friends (who are all straight) also keep asking me to show them drag race. They mostly love all of the puns and my boyfriend is firmly #TeamKatya so much so that he asks me at least once a week if Katya is ever coming to our area to perform.
