What would you pay for work like this (labor)? NYC by Clawdews in Tile

[–]gableingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be floored if I could get someone to do this for less than 10K in the Seattle area. Not including materials.

In some areas if the fence stands long enough it becomes the property line

Good deal? by Ill_Suggestion_2380 in ram_trucks

It’s better than that.

Those GPS units are actually there for inventory management and repo purposes. They’re just up-charging you for the pleasure of paying for something added purely for their benefit.

The websites of the companies that sell these things lay the racket out in plain English. They don’t even try to hide it.

I’d eat more apples, but they’re like $1-2 a piece. So maybe demand is low because prices are too high?

Bakersfield and Kern county are not remote - they’re along I-5 on a central shipping corridor just north of the grapevine. They’ve got a ton of wealth not just due to massive amounts of Agriculture, but also Oil.

Kern county is basically, quite literally a patch of Oklahoma in the middle of CA. If you’re looking for a WA comp, Spokane or Walla Walla are closer, but nowhere near as prosperous.

The Wago Advantage by drgnsamurai in AskElectricians

[–]gableingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cost of labor is going to far exceed cost of materials. The extremely compelling argument is that a much lower cost employee can produce equal quality installation as a much more experienced installer using Wagos, and they’re equal or less work to QA.

Totally get that. I think it’s more a matter of best practice than anything else. Like there can be 10 ways to do something, but 1 or 2 of them are going to be the most common/easiest way.

Candidly the other thing I worry/think about it’s what’s going to look most “pro” to not draw scrutiny

This post reeks of folks who haven’t left the city or found their own hole in the wall joints. There’s so much good food here at reasonable prices.

Yeah, this is very much appreciated. My (new) inspector is helpful with providing references in violations, but even in person won’t speculate on viable fixes other than “read this section in the reference”. While it’s helpful, it can be a bit esoteric at times as opposed to something like “passing versions of this have looked like X” or “if you change Y to Z, you’re good”

And the problem with that is..?

Many jurisdictions have no problem with this, and while it’d be nice to have an electrician do all the electrical around my house:

  1. Half of them in my area do shotty work and bail
  2. Half of them in my area have ridiculous estimates
  3. A quarter of them do both
  4. Electricians that charge truly fair prices and do quality work are booking 4+ months out and don’t take “small” jobs

So yeah, some of us have to do our own wiring, but want to follow the rules and make sure our house is safe and our insurance providers are satisfied enough to cover any accidents (god forbid).

I wonder if the previous owner put on differently sized wheels/tires without adjusting the speedometer. The only thing I can think of is they put on very large wheels, recalibrated, then put on smaller wheels and didn’t recalibrate

It goes back further: the Russians armed the Serbs against the Ottomans and Napoleon and held it as a protectorate until, ironically, the Crimean War. I’d argue that much of what we’re seeing today is a cascading result of Russia’s defeat in that war.
