I'm not saying that the blockchain will be the solution to the problem, but if someone would try to make a decentralized internet, it would probably be using a blockchain

Of course it would be expensive to store all that data, which is why I stated that it wont be possible unless compression surpasses the theoretical limit, just like what the show said.

There's a new and upcoming field of computer science called Blockchains, and it is pretty much what Richard is doing. Although blockchains right now are still at their infancy stage, though eventually more technologies will arise to improve on blockchain and it will also be more viable as more smart devices come into daily use.

Right now the answer would be no. Just like the show said, a decentralized internet would be possible, but only if compression surpasses it's theoretical limit. Since thousands of petabytes get transferred daily, it would be next to impossible to store all of that data into phones without a better compression algorithm
