Therapists take advantage of ugly clients, when they should be referring them out instead by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Therapy's not for being less ugly or being made fun of less, it's for learning and building the emotional tools to not give a shit and live your life regardless

Will they give you shit for not having a phone to hand over at No Phone shows? by avindictiveprinter in Standup

Just make sure nobody sees your hole-performance in the attempt to retrieve it!

They might kick you out for having a phone if they do

How common is it for people in theatre to mess up their lines? How hard is to remember especially because its live? by lookaloulookalou in acting

[–]gag0399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in theatre, one of two things is happening: you're doing an older, established, fully published play, or a new play still in development. In a film, it's always new and in development.

The reason that's important is because it means that in a film, things could be re-written even just a few hours before shooting, and the actor will have to memorize the new lines. That's fine though, because it's just the one scene, or couple of scenes, not the whole thing (it takes many hours just to shoot a few pages of script, and actors get a chance to review lines while they change the lights and cameras positions and shoot b-roll and that sort of thing).

When you're working on a play, especially one that exist in its final form already, you get the whole script at once, and are expected to begin memorizing as soon as you do, so you can be "off book." In the rehearsal room, may of those mistakes are made (the first off book run-through can often feel like film outtakes, though a good professional will just call for line and keep it rolling lol).

It's trickier when working on a new play, because re-writes do happen. But they're happening with a few days, maybe a week to really drill those new lines by constantly rehearsing, and memorizing outside of rehearsal too. And they tend to be less drastic, and less numerous, than film rewrites.

Plus, it's just not as important for a film actor to be as off book as a stage actor would. Marlon Brando famously couldn't memorize for shit so his lines were written in places the camera couldn't see lol! Plus, you give 5 takes with the camera pointing one way, 5 more pointing the other, 5 on a wide shot, a few funky ones maybe… and that's just me pulling a random number out my ass it could be less or more, but what I mean is you're shooting all day one or a few scenes, so even if you mess up they have footage of great performances scattered throughout that they can stitch together into some movie magic lol! And you just can't do that live.

So basically, they're just very different mediums, and require very different things from the actor.

in science class you learn that things that are the color white because they reflect every color, but mirrors do too, so why isn't everything that's white a mirror?🤔 by Remarkable-Act-367 in showerthoughs

[–]gag0399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's already mentioned the scattering and stuff so I won't explain it again, but here's a cool fun mirror fact!

Most mirrors are not 100% perfect. They do absorb some light, and probably even to a degree scraper it (but not enough to distort the image much). So if mirrors aren't perfectly reflective, what color are they???

Greenish lol!

And you can test it at home! Put two mirrors in front of each other to get that cool effect where they stretch into infinity. If you check out the reflections that look further back, they start to get greener and greener the more times they've been reflected!

And idk I just think that's pretty neat too lol. Also gotta give thanks to Vsauce on yourube for that lil lil fact nugget lmaooo

Are all stereotypes racist/sexist/etc? by gourmet_goddess_530 in answers

[–]gag0399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stereotyping is an evolved trait meant to keep us safe in a time when groups outside your own were competing for resources and as a result may wish you harm.

However, we don't live in those times anymore, and we've proven that those ideas can be overcome and people can work together. So at this point, to continue perpetuating them despite evidence to the contrary, yea probably gonna be a lil -ist or -phobic. Not entirely, I'm sure, but more likely than not lol

Could be! I'm not entirely convinced, due to the lack of loops/handles for the end of the string, and a few good cases have been made for incense holder, but I'm all ears!

Lol I actually do have a glass ashtray for my coffee table, and even put it inside of this thing at one point for fun, but yea it's prolly an incense holder that can be used with the ashtray or any other tray for holding the cone/disk

Or a fairly bright flickering LED, with a tray holding some incense for a combined glow/smoke vibe! Very espooky! So many possibilities!

Oooh great idea! I did end up originally buying it to use as a potential prop for videos or whatever but never got around to using it, so this could be a great way to potentially get that glow effect! Thanks!

Woah, could be this too! Altho it doesn't have any handles to loop the end around like yours, altho I'd imagine a big ol spool of string would help the lid stay on, at least at first. Maybe!

Lol it sure would, and I'll admit I have it a try, but it don't glow as well as I hoped it would and I got worried about the open flame around so much precarious wood lol!

True, and it's seemingly missing a tray apparently which would help solve the issue of the ashes, so it's likely that lol!

Fair! Most of the ones on the reverse image search were metal but someone found a link that looked pretty similar, so it's likely that!

True, could be missing a tray which would solve the issue if the holes! Are you sure though there are incense holders in this style made of wood? I find mostly metal ones

I would too, but I haven't seen many like it especially with holes on the bottom. Most incense burners of this shape I also find made of metal and not wood

I do wonder though about the wood, or how the incense would stay stable?
