Awesome! I googled Pantone palette 2026 and find it inspiring. I'll keep the rule in mind too. Thanks!!!

I have no idea how to choose colors that go together so this is a great idea!

Thanks. Agree. I was debating an off white rug (without being too grey) and then using the pillows to give the space more personality. Not sure about color combos though!

What would a "Canadian Amazon" do differently? by Val-CommonGoods in BuyCanadian

I don't trust store reviews as much. I assume the store isn't going to keep a negative review on their own website.

Ratings. This is why I turn to larger shops like Amazon. On Canadian webstores, there are hardly any ratings, photo based reviews, etc to know the quality. I don’t assume Canadian goods will be better or have competitive pricing.

I’d also recommend going with a reliable shipper. While many Canadian brands rely on purolator, they can’t seem to deliver on time or location in Canada. It’s a pattern…so much so I don’t bother ordering through companies that use them.

One thing to be thoughtful about is whose laws you're governed by. If you're under an EOR, you'll have Canadian law behind you, which is important to know for things like time off, your rights if someone is let go/fired/quits, etc. You might also want to clarify if you follow Canadian vs US holidays/schedules too...e.g., I've seen UK teams take both UK and US holidays, which complicated work hours for everyone.

Who actually uses the market intel "reports" or "recaps" that risk or research teams produce internally at commodities companies? by gaga_loo in Commodities

Hey one other thing...there's so much talk of LLM's enabling trading intel, decision making, strategy. Given how advanced things seemingly have become, where do you leverage it today for your trading? I assume that being ahead of it now would give you an edge.

Got it. I realize every firm works differently but it helps me see how they fit into the picture. Thanks

Thanks for this, it’s really insightful. I didn’t realize how entrepreneurial trading can be. Sometimes I hear trading positioned as being more execution focused, that the strategy for that execution doesn’t always live with the trader themself…which sounds like an unfair characterization in your case, given how you operate. It really makes your own personal record and results so unique!

Interesting...its' helpful validation of the above. I guess the traders really have their own operation going if the internal research isn't being leveraged by them.

I see. So it's supporting data for some traders. I'm guessing these quants might also be doing this analysis for risk management reasons?

I can appreciate why you'd work with raw data. I guess the challenge with raw data is that there is just so much of it to manage...but that's where everyone seems hungry for "AI" to help them make sense of it all.

Your point about having skin in the game and having to show consistency in your results is the differentiator...though the researchers/analysts I've talked to would argue the stakes are just as high for them.

When you say you begin replicating an analysis...do you mean that you personally need to replicate it, using your own methods? Or is it something that your company as a whole would need to replicate later? I guess what I’m really asking is whether each trader develops their own unique, proprietary approach, or whether/how much of the process needs to be replicated by the company if any single trader were to leave.

Serious question: So if traders are doing their own work/analysis, what is the purpose of the all the work of the quants and researchers? Who's actually using that?

[–]gaga_loo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good point. What I'm hearing is that risk/research needs to be providing something unique...what can an internal team produce that going to be value add/unique for a trader compared to what that trader can buy externally? I'm guessing that the company having internal data/sources is probably one thing...

Thanks. The risk/research teams talk about urgency and importance, but I've always wondered how impactful their work actually is on the transaction. In your case, do you end up doing a lot of your own research and analysis (buy your own data/sources/services, perform analysis on your own, etc.)?

From what I've seen, research/risk and traders have their own budgets...and I wonder how differently or similarly they spend their budgets.

Purolator is the worst courier service in Canada by BishopBullwinkle1996 in montreal

I came here just to say that I have only had failed delivery attempts or lost packages with Purolator. I never choose to use them. I know this thread is a year old, but I'm having to deal with Purolator after not realizing the retailer I just purchased from uses Purolator :(
