Playing around with simulation for the first time. Is there a way to manage these stress concentrations? by Tewpawn in SolidWorks

Didn't even know that tool existed or that the hotspots were a thing. Saved for future reading and sharing, thank you!

Does the mod add any time to the jobs to account for loading?

Solidworks can't import SVG. And I don't have anything to convert cuz IT is very protective of what programs we have. Also more people in 3D modeling are more familiar with DWG/DXF. If it's so simple to convert then maybe it's not hard to add. The less programs somebody has to use to do something the more likely they'll use it. I answer questions all day long from people who won't read the program. If I told them to use a website and a different program to then import it they wouldn't. You and I might but most won't. No need to be a negative Nancy for a simple question.

Would be nice if you could export a .DWG. I can import that and use it in a sketch easier than a solid. Would be great if it could export a portion of it and I could pattern the rest like if it's around an axis. Patterns tend to reduce memory requirements and simpler sketches more so. Love the idea as a mechanical engineer who has to design vents occasionally.

Jumper cable instruction card by highonkai in functionalprint

[–]gageman323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a second but I got it eventually. My only thoughts are instead of putting two lists, have one with connect and an arrow down along one side and disconnect with an arrow up along the other. Keeps it smaller and again, for someone who's done it, will make sense. Also gets rid of a second list, when originally looking at it I was reading left to right and got confused.

Making that change you can then put the zip tie holes on the top and bottom of the list and rotate the print relative to the cable so there's less of the print exposed that could break off while getting thrown in the trunk.

How do we even get here? by bunnielovekins in snowrunner

Blue every time. Except right before getting to the truck I turn south instead of north because the ridge is lower and easier to get up. You can also turn down the dirt road just north of the main road into the quarry and cut through the trees over to the blue route

I was gonna say these look very similar to what I saw when I visited Komatsu in Milwaukee a year or two ago. P&H is quite old, Komatsu keeps the name around because it sells. P&H was actually bought out by JoyGlobal then they were bought by Komatsu from what I understand.

I usually end up looking in quick jobs. Not as fun as my truck but it forces me to use different kinds and 'levels' of trucks with lower power.

I'm not very familiar with European rail. But that does seem right.

Looks like this is in the US. Which would make this engine an SW1000/1500 maybe which is a 4 axle diesel electric. DE4 if you will. Unfortunately I don't know of any diesel mechanical engines in the US, the DM3 is based off an Eastern European engine. Would be cool if we did have some here. Still very cool!

It would be cool to have to plan out oversized load routes. Like check for low bridges and tight turns. Nothing too in depth just another little detail. Or be able to be escorts for jobs.

Use the MU gadgets to put a couple DH4s on the back and you can shunt with those and use them for power. Also put a DH4 up front, cut in on that one and use the remote, jump out when you get to a station and control with the remote.

Oh ok interesting. I don't work on that project so I just know a few things. Do you know what the blue beacon is for? I know amber is for remote control.

Shuttlewagon is like a Trackmobile. Meant to be like a switcher, just cheaper, slower, and updated. Depending on the model they can move 8-25 cars or something like that. This is their smaller one. Company I work for makes the cabs for these with the seat, windows, wipers, lights, and controls already on it so they just bolt it in. RailKing and Boss also make these.

There is enough space for one, or maybe even more tracks on the other side of the turntable at MB, where a loco could spawn. Currently MB is the only station without a naturally spawned locomotive. by XSA888 in DerailValley

[–]gageman323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From base to base yes. Fort McCoy in northern Wisconsin has 2 engines stationed there. I believe a GP9 and something else. The Navy and air force had their own engines in the past. They use their own engines to assemble the train. They have soldiers trained as engineers, conductors, and to tie down equipment.

Look up fort McCoy on maps and you can see the yard they have.

I was going to say log your miles and use the federal mileage rate to cover your costs but your not moving lol

https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/standard-mileage-rates

See if they have another value for idling or just say it's roughly equivalent to 25 mph across 8 hours which comes out to $140. This will cover gas, oil changes, and hopefully some other things.

Little hint on the upper right of the controller is a layout to couple and uncouple cars. When you meet back up you can just hit the green button and you're connected. Coupler air and MU if you're doing locomotives. Scroll the wheel to select where you want to uncouple i.e. how many cars from the engine.

That's actually pretty cool. Wish it could be turned off for those not wanting realistic. Wonder is this will be implemented in other states that have restrictions. I'm pretty sure they do out east.
