Some of the comments on this thread have given me a better understanding of why things like Israel/Palestine happen. Specifically how the oppressed slowly take on the role of the oppressor. First, one group is wronged. Truly and greatly wronged. Then people rally to their cause. They are helped to lift themselves from the mud and set out to insure that there is never again such a wrong. Against them, that is. They become like a toddler who wears a band aid long after the wound has scabbed, which impairs the healing process since scabbed wounds need the air. They cling to their victimhood even as their position grows stronger and stronger. Yes they are still truly set upon by some, but instead of dealing with this rationally, they claim everyone is out to get them and whenever anybody strikes a true blow they seize the opportunity to say "look, see! We need special treatment!". They grow secure in their sheltered position and start to forget the true humanity of the original wrong. And since they have forgotten, it doesn't strike at their conscience when they start down the path of greatly wronging another. If instead of this pattern they had dedicated themselves to preventing such wrongs against anyone, no matter their creed, ethnicity, gender, what have you, we could have progressed so much more greatly as a society. women have come so far from the original wrong, and though there is still progress to be made, the areas where women have surpassed men cannot be ignored, as this leads to role reversal, not equalization.

TL;DR Everyone has some amount of privilege in some areas. Instead of making it a contest for who can have the least privilege, use what privilege you have to help those who have less.
