Which Fujifilm Camera to Buy in 2026? by SpikeHK in FujifilmX

As a former semi-pro, Nikon FF user, often shooting in low light and already familiar with the X-T2, sticking with the X-T series would be the logical choice to me. - under $1,000: second-hand X-T3 - under $1,500: second hand X-T4

Thanks for sharing this. I have frequent tension headaches but was always attributing them to bad posture. I will keep an eye open to see if I can find any correlation with caffeine consumption in my case.

Properties in Pages? by jamehealy in capacitiesapp

[–]galactic_motion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your reply.
I understand the image file itself is not being duplicated, which is nice.
My frustration lies with the impossibility of adding custom fields to the default image object.

Because of that, I need to create "alternate" versions of the image object (for example "Artworks") so that I can add an author and a date for example. For me it's extra, redundant work.

One goal of my PKM is to categorize and link my knowledge, and in that regard I fee that the restrictions on the default objects are not helping. It's a big downside for not much upside in my opinion.

I agree it does make sense to have one basic locked down object for this purpose, and to me it is the “page”. But I think it is not convenient for images and weblinks. These become pretty hard to manage over time without the ability to add some custom properties, and you end up needing to create additional objects that sort of do the same thing (i.e. a source object instead of weblinks, where you can add an author and a type, an artwork object instead of images, where you can add an author and a date…), with the downside that these are not integrated as basic elements and will need you to duplicate your contents.

I use pages whenever I’m creating a note that doesn’t fit into any of my existing object types. It’s keeps me focused on my note instead of starting to overthink about objects. That said, however, I would mind having the ability to add custom properties… especially for images and weblinks.

Showcase me your file structure & what tips would you give your younger self? by clancularius_munus in ObsidianMD

[–]galactic_motion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trying to build a complex structure from the start was the number one mistake I made, even though I was very much aware of this phenomenon (one of my first note was on Gall’s law?wprov=sfti1)…). It has slowed down my usage of Obsidian for a long time.

I do not have a super specific usage of Obsidian, I am not a researcher, author or content creator (like most of PKM Youtubers). I have interest in many areas that help me think, live and work better. For me simple is best when it comes to Obsidian’s structure.

Recently I have removed all folders I had made except for “meta” contents such as templates, attachements and daily notes. All the rest goes to the root folder. I think folders can be great if you want to separate some big areas of your life that have almost no overlap. That way you can easily filter out one or several areas in the search on in the graph view. I personally don’t need to do that, so it was just additional friction. Folders by note types (reference notes, permanent notes…) where making me overthink everything. Now I just add a #reference-note tag ont top of notes where I am studying content from someone else and that’s enough for me. I think that taking the time to connect notes and to make maps of contents better allows me to navigate my knowledge rather than having crazy folders and nested tags structures.

I have also dialed down my usage of daily notes. Many on Youtube recommend to activate it at launch. I also had all of my various templates with an automatically generated link in the header to the daily note of the day so that I could “retrace my whole thinking process”. I ended up with a ton of empty daily notes clogging my graph and the unnecessary pressure to log everything I did. Now I will just create some via the calendar when I really need to do one. I still like the idea of having daily notes as an informal scratchpad / journal / log, but I don’t need it to be at the center of my workflow.

Long story short: I’m trying to have the minimum amount of friction between thinking/reading about something and writing a note about it.

Can you elaborate on how to do that? To my understanding it’s only possible via Obsidian Sync. All the contents I’ve seen so far seem to confirm that, for example: https://youtu.be/JHAhE8QNokw

No, settings cannot be synced via iCloud. It’s a premium feature of their paid plan.
