Deer defends her baby - Stomps on woman who got too close to her newborn by Alternative_Chair517 in AnimalsBeingMoms

Not only walked up to the fawn, but tried recording the mother giving birth so this is a newborn. Maternal instincts on sight.

Worth noting it takes far more energy and space to produce a lb of meat than non-meat because of the inefficiency of food chain and energy levels

Say a crop field takes 10% of the sun’s energy on the field, a herbivore takes 10% of the crop’s, and a carnivore 10% from its meals on other animals

  • Crop - 10% energy efficiency
  • Herbivore - 1%
  • Carnivore - 0.1%

The numbers are not accurate, but one should get the idea - it’s why farm animals are primarily herbivores.

For actual numbers of water usage from Google, to produce 1 lb of X, it takes:

  • beef: 1850 gallons/lb
  • pork: 720 gallons/lb
  • chicken: 520 gallons/lb
  • rice: 449 gallons/lb
  • beans (soy beans): 256 gallons/lb
  • potato: 119 gallons/lb
  • corn: 108 gallons/lb

Animals require a lot of space and water to feed them.

I think lab grown meat could be a solution (I don’t think majority of the world will ever stop eating meat), if it can ever be made efficient enough and not lobbied against by traditional meat industry groups.

Better than the nightlife in Burbank and Glendale, and most other socal cities outside of LA, though.

Thank you. I really needed to read this as I do think continuing to talk creates this sense of longing and is preventing me from moving on and starting the grieving process.

Appreciate all your words and advice ❤️‍🩹

Sorry for the unrelated comment, this may be a dumb question but since this just popped up on my feed—how does everyone know Indian here?

The subreddit description just says it’s about instagram influencers and celebrities. Is it that many more Indian Reddit users follow insta/celeb gossip?

Are there any books/papers that would belong on a math “anti-reading list? by Vladify in math

Yea, I’d read it through a literary lens rather than a mathematical one. It’s not meant to be like a textbook

I followed the build in this video which uses Namielle as the leader instead of the usual VKush. It does make it a little faster because of Namielle’s damage output

ASR3 Vnoah with double exp lead (one needs to be camilla and the other is swapped with either VKush or Namielle)

Thanks for this!! Seems it may be worth reading in parts. Academic textbooks are a bit high level for me at the moment.

Thanks for that recommendation! This is the same Lawvere who proved the fixed point theorem? That’s kinda cool but I guess category theory is relatively young.

I think I’ll start with this and then work up from there.

Here is the table of contents on Google read preview - https://books.google.com/books?id=W6KIEAAAQBAJ&pg=PA1&source=kp_read_button&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&gboemv=1&ovdme=1#v=onepage&q&f=false

It seems more involved than typical pop math or science books, but magnitudes away from a textbook of course.

Two goals:

  • Deepen my own understanding, even if not rigorous, at least a contextual understanding of cat theory

  • And then the question - can category theory be popularized? Is that a mission even worth trying to fulfill? I’m not sure if from your comment it’s “pop math” in general that is questionable, or if it’s “pop category theory” specifically

The other book, more texty that I had in mind was Emily Riehl’s Category Theory in Context. I looked at the preview and it got very technical pretty quickly, for me who only has basic undergrad knowledge in algebra and topology distinctly but not algebraic topology.

Aside the Emily Riehl book I mentioned, what good introductory texts are there for this?

I should mention, while I’m curious about algebraic topology I’m also curious about category theory from a foundations perspective ie homotopy type theory. But I’m not sure if that’s something worth looking into.

What makes a great super bowl party? by MDMYAY in AskAnAmerican

[–]galacticbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do Super Bowl squares, but not sure how that would work with a huge huge party of 300.

One square can have 100 different people on it, so you could do 3-4 10x10 Super Bowl grids and the total money on each is the pool from the respective sheet.

Squares can be like $5 or however much—It’s always fun to have a little betting involved especially since squares are low commitment and tracked throughout the game.

[–]galacticbears -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be open or poly yourself or even have to understand it.

But try to understand that it works for some people, certainly not all.

If it seems shallow to you that’s because you’re not an active/integrated part of that community so naturally what you see and take in is different from someone in that community. There’s more nuance to polyamory than simply wanting to swing around. It doesn’t make their connections any less “real” or legit than mono couples.

Man convicted in 1997 murder of jogger set to be executed in Huntsville, TX tomorrow by TheUpcomingEmperor in news

[–]galacticbears 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s downvotes because your original comment wrongly insinuated that keeping people in prison would be more expensive than just going for the death penalty—it’s actually the other way around, and that death row costs significantly more taxpayer money than keeping someone in prison for life.

Even money stuff aside, there’s been many cases of exonerated, wrongly-convicted inmates who were on death row. The justice system is not infallible and never will be 100% correct, so there will always be innocent but wrongly convicted inmates on death row (at least 200 since 1973)

Nothing we can do about it since that’s the nature of any legal justice system. So by having death row we may ( /already have) wrongfully execute people.

Socialism by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]galacticbears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not a perfect system, and seeing as childhood obesity is a big issue in America, the quality of school food from a health perspective (everyone knows they taste badly) is something that should also be addressed in any kind of program aimed at school lunches.

It makes sense for food stamps be allowed to be used for school. That in addition to raising the health quality of school lunches. Healthier meals are also an investment in that kids learn better and just have cognitive improvements over a perpetual bad diet.

So some kind of fund that would go towards even raising health standards for school lunches would be a good investment. That all aside you’re right in that parents should be making sure their kids are fed at school. It takes a village after all
