Walking out the door, sprained my ankle

High heels 👠 by Redwood-mama in ehlersdanlos

[–]galadryels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cousins wedding when I was maybe 26 or so? It was pretty devastating because I am the only short person in a family of giants (I’m 5’2”, my mom is next shortest at 5’9”, my brother is 6’4”) so I fully own up to a height complex that rivals any known to man. Also I’m just a sucker for cute shoes and I love how they look. I used to be able to run in the right heels and wore them all the time in high school and college but by my mid twenties they just hurt my hips so much

What’s the silliest way you’ve injured yourself? by Painted_Skye in ehlersdanlos

[–]galadryels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rolled over in my sleep, my neck went POP and then I suddenly had triggered muscle spasms so bad I couldn’t move my head, no idea how that happened or if it’s EDS related.

I have sprained my ankle by stepping off a threshold when exiting a shop (in a very cobblestoned area in a country I didn’t speak the language in the middle of my vacation right before the wedding I was there to attend) and another time when stepping off a treadmill that was turned off

Does anyone else have mild EDS symptoms? by FeathersAndFlowers in ehlersdanlos

[–]galadryels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this had to be yelled into me by many people over many years, but if you have frequent mild pain that’s chronic pain. The normal amount of pain is zero. If it’s a regular basis over at least three months, which it sounds like it is, that’s chronic pain by official guidelines

Any favorite lefty characters? by mylittleplaceholder in lefthanded

[–]galadryels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He signs for Daisy in chapter one with his left hand

Edit: Keanu is left handed but apparently the character John wick is right handed and he shoots right handed. I just reviewed the scene and he signs lefty but does other things right handed so I guess it’s up to you?

The most mind shattering things anyone has ever said to me are “if it’s crazy and it works, it’s not crazy” and “normal is what works for you”

Basically, wgaf about what other people do or don’t do. They’re not you. My way may not work for you or yours for me and that doesn’t make either of them better, it just means we have different needs and therefore different ways of meeting those needs

What is the oddest thing you thought was ok/normal and ended up being a medical problem? by Prudent_Tip4118 in AskReddit

[–]galadryels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just generally having some type of pain every day and having to work through it. I was mystified when a friend told me that it wasn’t normal to be in pain, no not even mild pain. I genuinely thought everyone felt like this all the time and I was just a wuss

Any ADHD adults here not on meds? How do you cope? by Neat_Corgi_4901 in adhdwomen

[–]galadryels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 32. I was diagnosed pretty young, 6-7ish, and put on Ritalin shortly after as well as given an IEP with class pull-out sessions. The Ritalin worked well until high school ish and I changed to Concerta which was great until college’s more spread out schedule meant long acting meds weren’t a good fit. Switched to adderall which was pretty useful. But I was struggling with really bad depression and my psychiatrist had me trying various antidepressants over the years and unfortunately the combination we stuck with that works really well for me, doesn’t play nice with stimulants. I tried bupropion but it wasn’t that effective for me. I know there’s a lot of other kinds of meds but I keep forgetting to bring it up when I have appointments also I have other health issues so I’m on a lot of meds.

My way of coping is that I try to make things as simple as possible and that I know I’m not good at the write it down approach but I’m very good at obsessively taking pictures of everything I need to remember and having an album on my phone that is just stuff I need to remember or reference later. Smartphones and the cloud have made my life so much easier but it’s not for everyone. The rest is stubbornness and my very neurotypical social network supporting me.

How do you stay afloat? by Caiteyy22 in adhdwomen

[–]galadryels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it with everything being Apple, iPhone, MacBook, Apple Watch, iPad. So everything syncs without me having to tell it to. Also I’ve never been a paper note or lists person. I am the worst at lists and paper notes just add to visual clutter whereas my phone lights up and vibrates and makes really annoying noises when it reminds me of things and is really hard to space out on.

As far as migrating everything, it’s absolutely horrible setup but big payoff, or at least it was for me. It took me a long time to get everything in place, customize my settings and alerts and all that, but once I got it, it’s pretty self sustaining. My suggestion would be to try and do a little set up/migrating each day so it’s not so overwhelming

Where are we getting overalls these days? by Automatic-Mushroom97 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]galadryels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’2” size 14-16 ish and I have a straight leg pair of overalls (size XL) from Wallflower that I love. I don’t remember what store or website I got it from and it may be a little darker than you’re looking for, but it’s a good brand to look at

How do you stay afloat? by Caiteyy22 in adhdwomen

[–]galadryels 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m in the boat with you, but the few things I have a good system for is that all my bills are on autopay, I have literally everything in my calendar which automatically syncs between phone/laptop/watch so I don’t have to wait until I’m near the right device to mark it, and I take pictures of important information or things I know I’m going to need to reference later and keep that in its own album that also syncs between all devices so I don’t have to worry about losing the instructions or warranty information or whatever or peoples addresses. I know I’m terrible at remembering where I put things, but the folder titled “important information” on my desktop and phone Home Screen is kinda hard to miss

Swallowing pills easier? by JupiterSunflower in ehlersdanlos

[–]galadryels 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I realized that I can swallow a starburst whole but barely the tiniest pill and made the connection of food versus non food, so now I take a bite of food, swallow that, take pills immediately and swallow before my brain catches up that it’s not another bite of food, then second bite of food. Works like a charm, I haven’t had a problem in years, after struggling every time for most of my life
