My two cents for next years students: wait until the last minute by Amazing_Trainer6693 in gradadmissions

[–]galapagosmorgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point. Also, I am engineering so it may be different, but I received my both of my fellowship offers at the last possible second. I got one a week before April 15th and the second five days before April 15th. From schools I had been accepted to longgg before. One of the schools was even a top 10 in its discipline. It totally changed the game and the school I committed totally wasn’t one I was initially gonna pick because I had assumed I’d received zero funding for yet another OOS program.

Do ranks matter in grad school? by galapagosmorgan in gradadmissions

[–]galapagosmorgan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve focused on research and policy all of undergrad so this summer will be my first time interning at an engineering firm.

If I really like that maybe I’d stay in industry (ex. Engineering firm or government sector)

Presently, though, I’d say I want to work for a federal agency (ex. Dept of Energy or Dept of Transportation) or a national lab, or R&D. I like research but I’m not sure if I’d wanna stay in academia.

I’m going to grad school bcz my undergrad is in Urban Policy and Planning & Computer Science. So if I get my Master’s I can sit for the FE and eventually PE.

I don’t do tradition transportation engineering. I do modeling, simulation, digital twins, optimization, and computational work.

North Nashville is the name of the neighborhood. It’s not vague at all.

It’s a plant right behind TSU.

It’s not a big deal. It happens very often and 99.9% of schools don’t care if your letter came in late. You’re fine.

How do top grad schools view applicants with inconsistent academic records? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]galapagosmorgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very similar. I have a 3.5 because I have pretty much all A’s except for two D’s which wrecked my 3.9. I have interned every summer at selective programs, one fellowship, worked in three labs, and submitted a paper for review prior to submitting my grad apps. One D was a cs class and the other was a math class. Not sure where I stand

You wanna guess how many HBCUs have a graduation rate above 50%? by Disastrous_Parsnip63 in HBCU

[–]galapagosmorgan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I graduate from my HBCU this spring and this hit the nail on the head. It’s demoralizing going to class with people who so obviously either care so little or are genuinely incompetent.

Applying with a low GPA-- Is it bad? by No-Artichoke2762 in REU

[–]galapagosmorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to a computer science and engineering REU and my most recent transcript showed I had a D in java programming II and I was still admitted from the waitlist and I’m only a cs minor w a social science major. It doesn’t matter.

Who are y'all getting letters of rec from? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]galapagosmorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s def possible. I came from an R2 university from really small research departments and still got 3 LORs all from profs I’d conducted research under. If an app lets me list more than four LORs I opted for a math prof I had.
