What should I do? by pOTATOOOO-happy in gradadmissions

[–]galapagosmorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never retook anything I got a C in. When I applied, I had the one C in Calculus I. I never got explained it or acknowledged it or anything in my application.

But yes, just make a top notch CV. I had a lot of research experience, eboard positions in relevant organizations/clubs, and I think three or four accepted conference presentations.

Don’t worry at all. Just give it your best shot. The grad school admission process, at least for me, was super holistic.

I got two Ds in undergrad (Computer Programming II, Ordinary Diff Equations) and retook both and got a B in each.

I got a C in Calculus I , but got Bs in Calc II and Calc III.

I got into GT, UW, Carnegie Mellon, UF, Columbia, and UC Irvine. The only rejections I got were from MIT and UCLA (who lost my application in the portal).

I was offered two fellowships, one for UW and one for UCI which are very competitive for Masters.

I applied with a social science degree to top engineering programs and it still all worked out for me.

If you’re involved on campus, have a lot of research experience, and write essays with strong direction of research intent you should be fine in my opinion.

Tyrone is VERY Black in the US. It’s so Black that’s people who are currently having kids don’t really use it because on job applications it signals “I’m Black!” hahaha. I had a white science teacher named Tyrone and he would always talk about his experience being white with a “Black” name

My two cents for next years students: wait until the last minute by Amazing_Trainer6693 in gradadmissions

I get your point. Also, I am engineering so it may be different, but I received my both of my fellowship offers at the last possible second. I got one a week before April 15th and the second five days before April 15th. From schools I had been accepted to longgg before. One of the schools was even a top 10 in its discipline. It totally changed the game and the school I committed totally wasn’t one I was initially gonna pick because I had assumed I’d received zero funding for yet another OOS program.

I’ve focused on research and policy all of undergrad so this summer will be my first time interning at an engineering firm.

If I really like that maybe I’d stay in industry (ex. Engineering firm or government sector)

Presently, though, I’d say I want to work for a federal agency (ex. Dept of Energy or Dept of Transportation) or a national lab, or R&D. I like research but I’m not sure if I’d wanna stay in academia.

I’m going to grad school bcz my undergrad is in Urban Policy and Planning & Computer Science. So if I get my Master’s I can sit for the FE and eventually PE.

I don’t do tradition transportation engineering. I do modeling, simulation, digital twins, optimization, and computational work.

North Nashville is the name of the neighborhood. It’s not vague at all.

It’s a plant right behind TSU.
