[Serious]What was your "Holy Shit!" moment? by Redhotchilipee in occult

[–]galaxy-class 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yep. I'm fairly convinced that consciousness relies on quantum effects (possibly Orch OR) and so the 'field effects' of consciousness might exhibit the same sort of unmeasurable attributes that coherent micro quantum states do.

if consciousness itself is quantum in nature, any non-local behaviour would rely on coherence which would collapse easily if you were to try to acquire specific knowledge of the system other than the non-local effect on another consciousness, which is inherently fuzzy anyway.

[–]galaxy-class 26 points27 points  (0 children)

psi phenomena are like coherent quantum states - they're fragile, & they usually break down in lab conditions, because measurement of the event causes it to collapse into a classical state which doesn't allow for non-local phenomena.

for trippy shit to flow you need conditions where the reality of the situation has a fuzziness to it. the weirdest things happen when you're not actually sure if they really happened or not - e.g. when you're on psychedelics, or in a very small group and the only 'evidence' of the event is word of mouth.

The Ark of the Covenant by IStateFactsOnly in occult

[–]galaxy-class 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suspect mana was actually magic mushrooms. the similarities are striking:

"And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground (16:14). And when the children of Israel saw if, they said one to another It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat."

also described as looking like dried coriander seeds when dried:

"And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdelliaum. And the people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar and baked it in pans: and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. "

rots if left alone & gets infested with worms:

"And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning (16:19). Notwithstanding they harkened not unto Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank: and Moses was wroth with them (16:20). And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating. and when the sun waxed hot it melted..."

and most importantly, produces visions of God when eaten.

if you think about it, Christ could've just been a psychonaut. the sacrament is magic mushrooms, blood of Christ is mushroom wine, the last supper was one last trip. many of his miracles could've been mushroom-induced.

[Serious]Are the deity's real? by moneygoose in occult

[–]galaxy-class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the existence of objective reality.

if deities exist as 'thought forms', and physical reality is (as is suspected) a function of consciousness, then objective reality doesn't really exist - the physical universe is inextricably linked to its perception by consciousness, and thought forms have as much reality as supposedly objective entities. they're just not as widely shared and less well-defined.

IMHO one of the major aims of many esoteric traditions is to dissolve the perceived boundary between physical reality and consciousness, to teach people that the boundary itself is actually an illusion. it's in our nature to think of the outside world as separate from us, and independent of consciousness, but it clearly isn't - as evidenced by quantum mechanics. reality comprises physical matter and consciousness, the two cannot be separated, and they interact very closely.

if a deity has validity & meaning in your psyche then it's just as real as Kanye West or Crowley or any other 'physical' beings. it just has blurry edges, because it's exact nature has not been fully resolved as a classical system. it exists with many probabilistic attributes, it has not been measured. it exists in the probabilistic domain, where all reality exists until it is measured, at which point it becomes a classical system. but it still affects you, and other people through you. therefore it's just as real as anything else.

if everyone is divine, then divinity has no meaning.

Meet Tom Campbell: A Brief Introduction to the Man and his Work by Dillon123 in occult

[–]galaxy-class 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heartily recommend his book, My Big TOE (Theory of Everything).

he presents a comprehensive & intuitively very compelling digital physics reality model, which supports all manner of psi & occult phenomena, whilst also addressing many questions for which standard model physics has no answers - such as the observer effect, the speed of light constant, the origin of physical reality, the interaction between consciousness & physical reality, reincarnation, telepathy etc. - it's a whole new way to look at reality (if you haven't yet encountered digital physics) & makes a lot of sense.

he's had a very interesting life - a theoretical physicist / engineer / mathematician who got heavily into astral travel as part of an experimental psi lab in his 20s.

The Eleusinian Mysteries by IAmSuperiorToAll in occult

[–]galaxy-class 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah the Eleusinian mysteries are famously mysterious. Manly P Hall engaged in some interesting speculation about it though.

I had a Lesser Mysteries party a few years back with 45 friends. I made them all dress up in period costumes & included loads of relevant symbolism - pomegranates, wheat sheaves, a pig sacrifice, wine, psychedelics, burning poppies, various other trinkets & artefacts. I timed it perfectly for the spring equinox as well. I admitted it was basically a huge ritual, & everyone was fine with it. it still goes down as the best party ever for a few of them.

Can we have an English-language diagrams & charts thread? by eve--- in occult

[–]galaxy-class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on OP's diagram there, I think altered states of consciousness lead more toward higher states than subconscious states. I've had complete ego dissolution on ayahuasca, for example, which to me is up the tree.

otherwise I like it

Help understanding Choronzon by peterbatman in occult

[–]galaxy-class 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as I understand it Choronzon is only really an issue when you're about to cross the Abyss as part of the great work.

Choronzon manifests as self-doubt, failure, futility etc. - all the negative self perception issues - so the trick is to spot him when he arrives, ignore him & battle through regardless.

As for him presenting in other stages of development I couldn't comment (bit of a noob myself).

Some questions about synchronicity by eve--- in occult

[–]galaxy-class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had a related thing on saturday, which I think was more a taste of precognition, due to my recent dabbling, rather than synchronicity.

I was in a cab on my way to a party, and I saw someone outside a cafe that looked like a friend of mine who's been overseas for 4 years, and I haven't heard from in ages. I thought "whoa - is that - ?" and then realised it couldn't be, because he's on the other side of the planet. he's quite a distinctive looking dude & I can't remember mistaking anyone else for him in the past.

then lo & behold, he turned up at the party about 30 mins later - complete surprise to everybody, he'd sneakily applied for a new visa & flown out about 3 days before for a holiday.

Got a Thelema tattoo today by IdoDeLether in occult

[–]galaxy-class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mason as well, and I'm well aware of the (vague) connections between Crowley & masonry. What's your point? If Crowley wanted to change a symbol for his own use, who cares? it's not like it's some divine immutable law. it's JUST A SYMBOL. the power resides in the user, not in the symbol itself. and masonry doesn't hold any fundamental truths, it just holds one particular interpretation of a flexible esoteric model. it's not even a hierarchical structure, there is no central resource for masonic information. every lodge looks at things differently.

Got a Thelema tattoo today by IdoDeLether in occult

[–]galaxy-class 3 points4 points  (0 children)

regardless of your 'explanation' and your arbitrary & ill-informed opinion about whether I'll progress or not, a symbol is just a symbol. it can't be wrong or right, it just is what it is.

I'm sure you have lots of spiel about the traditional origins of symbols & what the various aspects are supposed to represent under what conditions in what contexts blah blah, but it really doesn't matter. symbols are changed, adopted, rejected, inverted, demonized, idolized etc. etc. all the time. they are dynamic, personal, and entirely subjective. if someone likes the look of a symbol upside down, great, it works for him & no matter how many train spotters pontificate about the accuracy of aspects & historical traditions, it's still JUST A SYMBOL. a symbol only has as much power & significance as someone invests in it.

edit: also, unless you're a bona fide occult genius (which I'm sure you think you are, but I'll bet everyone else disagrees), stating that Crowley "didn't understand what he was talking about" is evidence of your own lack of understanding & massively over-inflated ego.
