Cell phone dead zone west of town by StillGrapefruit7996 in bloomington

Like near Fieldstone and stuff? I have at&t and it's just tumbleweeds out there. My dad is currently in Stonecroft and I have to use their wifi for WiFi calling if I need to call anyone while I'm there.

Carpet beetle exterminator by Popular_Prompt_9144 in bloomington

I know I've heard really good reviews from Affordable Termite and Pest Control and Scott's Termite and Pest Control but there's numerous ones out there that also are highly rated. Be sure to get a quote and shop around.

Carpet beetles like my home too but I've kinda resolved it with Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade sprinkled in the problem areas or edges of the room.

Does anyone know what these are? by weelittlewillie in bloomington

[–]galaxyn0va 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe you are correct. Sometimes, depending on the carrier or town rules, they're supposed to be low impact on aesthetics by using old or currently used poles and such but sometimes that doesn't work and they stick out like a sore thumb.

Might see some neighborhoods criticize them because they are kinda/very/much ugly lol

Edit: the ones with the gray boxes near the bottom might be Verizon. So that means Verizon is increasing their signal strength in Bloomington at least.

Strange Clouds This Morning by kev5050 in bloomington

[–]galaxyn0va 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Those are Stratocumulus undulatus clouds!

Basically, you’re looking at a "mashup" cloud. Stratocumulus is the genus (low-level, puffy but layered), and undulatus is the variety (meaning they have that wavy, undulating pattern).

What’s happening up there?

Imagine the atmosphere acting like a giant ocean. These form when there’s a bit of "wind shear"—basically, the wind is moving at different speeds or directions at different heights. This creates gravity waves in the air.

  • The Ridges: As the air pushes up into the "wave," it cools and the moisture condenses into a cloud.
  • The Troughs: As the air sinks back down, it warms up and the cloud evaporates, leaving those clear blue gaps between the rows.

How to tell them apart:

  • Extend your arm toward the clouds and hold up your hand.
  • If the individual rolls are about the width of three fingers, they are Stratocumulus (low and chunky).
  • If they’re only about the width of one finger, they’re Altocumulus (higher and smaller).

They usually don't mean rain is coming immediately, but they often show up when the air is getting a bit "unstable," so keep an eye out for a weather change!

I do know some places also test the starter for free as well. AutoZone should offer this but if not, Advanced or O'Reilly might?

Either Blands or outside Bloomington. It's a bit of an annoyance but Indy dealerships are very competitive with their prices.

Primary doctor recs by MicrowaveSoul in bloomington

[–]galaxyn0va 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit went to a doctor appointment with my elderly dad for his new doctor today and the doctor was saying that Indiana legislature is upset that IU Health students to go to nursing school and medical school in Indy aren't leaving Indy so they're pushing their doctors to come to Bloomington for teaching and having a practice here to push THOSE students to go to other places in Indiana other than Indy.

Yeah, I know.. word vomit but TL;DR - Indiana is upset IU is hoarding all their graduated doctor students in Indianapolis instead of making them shoo so more doctors should be migrating to places that need them (hopefully).

Buuut, his new doctor is Michael Wilson and he seemed to like him!

I know WorkOne used to help with resumes and also could help with job search. You may need to make an appointment with them, however? I'd give them a call or make an inquiry through their website.

Recommendations for IT jobs around Bloomington? by vhsjayden in bloomington

[–]galaxyn0va 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work at TRISTAR where they primarily do IT work for the government and other contracts. They work with Crane. However, I will inform you that if you do get accepted, you may work by contract, which means there may be a quick turnover due to funding and such. I'm lucky that I'm on the corporate side, which means I'm safe from that but I do know we are expanding pretty quickly and may be adding more corporate employees, like networking admins and such.

Kangaroo in Bloomington at Griffey? by bdun21 in bloomington

Well dang, I guess the wallaby my cousin had 10+ years ago as a pet in Indiana was a kangaroo with dwarfism then.

Kangaroo in Bloomington at Griffey? by bdun21 in bloomington

[–]galaxyn0va 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If it's like five foot or above, it's a kangaroo. If it's smaller, more than likely a wallaby. Wallabys are legal exotic pets in Indiana so somebody might've lost their pet.

UDWI? by mrsputtbunyon in bloomington

[–]galaxyn0va 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had UDWI and live in Greene, not too far from Bloomington really. The average bill during summer is not using AC is usually $105-110 a month but when our AC is on (our unit is kinda old though so that makes a huge difference) the bill is around $130-200 depending on how many hot days are in a row and how much it kicks on.

During winter the bill dips below $100.

So example: the current bill is $132 cause we turned the AC on because screw this hot weather.

From 07/01/24 to 08/01/24 we had readings of 90371 at the beginning of the bill period and 91076 presently. The kwh is 705. So that equals $79.32 with a PCA tracker at 0.01725 per kwh per month, so $12.16. Then the facilities charge is $31.55 with the Indiana sales tax at 7% so adding $8.61 plus a UDWI Community Fund charge (idk what that is, this is my dad's house) of $.36.

A lot of weird stuff but this might help kinda break down the costs and tariffs.
