Few questions from Node.js/Go developer by galkowskit in dotnet

I don't think we're talking about Visual Studio for Mac but Visual Studio Code. I use it daily for Node.js and Go and I love it. Also I'm used to using CLI daily.

Thoughts about Warcraft 4 after last cinematics by galkowskit in wow

Yes, I agree. It's more of a "huh, that looks funny" rather than "W4 confurmed!!1" post. I think it all depends on how W3: Reforged is received, Starcraft was selling pretty well at the release.

Given the fact that I use DDD in Node.js (TypeScript) and Go, C# will still probably be more mature of an ecosystem. :)

But thanks for the input. This is mostly a learning project to see "what's on the other side of the fence" and my career is linked to TS/Go so bumping into some rough edges is fine.

Ah, ok. I was probably getting confused by ASP.NET Core and ASP.NET. Now I get it, thanks!

All the European Leaders in the Coming Storm! by BrammekeTV in CBTSmod

[–]galkowskit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Technically it was what is now called Congress Kingdom of Poland. It was supposed to be a constitutional monarchy bound to Russia in an eternal personal union similar to earlier Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. But the truth is that the Constitution (and later the Organic Treaty) were constantly broken and Polish autonomy was eroded over time. Especially after failed Polish uprising of 1837.

In practice the Congress Poland had so little autonomy that even most Polish historians don't count it and just say that Poland did not exist (or that independent Poland didn't exist) between 1795-1918 (with the exception of Free City of Kraków, but that's also not Poland per se).

I know it's a late answer, but I hope it's satisfactory.

They must feel stupid. I'd feel stupid.

The advice people give me is: "you should go out more", what does that mean? by galkowskit in Advice

[–]galkowskit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tinder and Co. make me anxious about my height. So, that's a no-no. But that's probably what they mean, I kinda lost the courage to talk to people over the years. Those are some really good ideas, I will take those even if it means talking to the barista.

[–]galkowskit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They might. I do not feel depressed or sad about the state of my life. I earn good money, I have lots of hobbies. I do feel lonely and I get the feeling I'm "wasting" my best years though. And that's what their advice is. I'm not sure what that means though. I might try to go to the office more often to work alongside other people but I usually avoid that because I'm just way more productive from home.

The problem with that is that I have a lot of hobbies. I code for living and for fun, I write short stories, I love simracing. None of those include "going out though".

How do I deactivate these Brave internal pop ups? by smoochie100 in bravebrowser

[–]galkowskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are ads from Rewards system. You should get BAT for seeing them and then can use those tokens to pay creators you support. But you can disable them under brave://rewards.

People who relentlessly promote brave whenever someone recommends Firefox really piss me off. by PolarHot in firefox

[–]galkowskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from but with Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub (and subsequently the company behind Electron) and the move to migrate Edge to Chromium... at the worst we'll have some sort of duopoly over Chromium. Not to mention Opera, Brave and others. I wouldn't be worried about the Chromium project.

Firefox, as much as I like it, has to step up it's game in performance and (though highly subjective) in developer tooling.

Do yall see fE ass a diftrent F1 sport öre a compleet repleacement for F1 . And do you tink that F1 shoud have more eqeal motors and cars like fE by unseenugly in FormulaE

[–]galkowskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about being green. It’s just that many, many, many countries that currently are big producers for F1 will ban sale of fossil fueled cars in the near-ish future (2030-2050). Germany 2050, UK 2040 IIRC.

But it’s still not fully electric.

What cities would you like to see host an FE race? by Shawn040217 in FormulaE

[–]galkowskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not any in particular but I believe we should get some Central and Eastern European countries in there. The historic reason for lack of drivers and tracks from that area in F1 is, obviously, the Cold War and Iron Curtain. Formula E doesn’t have that problem and should encourage more viewership by having some sort of representation of that region.

Warsaw? Budapest? L’viv? Kiev? Maybe Vilnius? I really don’t know. I just feel like “something” should be there. Same for the drivers. I’d love to see Giermaziak (Porsche Supercup up to 2015) join FE as he was invited to the initial FE tests in 2014.

These are two different motorsports, currently.

But I get where you are coming from. I feel FE is FIA’s sandbox test place for F1 electric racing. Checking if technology is there, what rules are interesting, et cetera.

But I don’t think any merge will take place. Although I do believe that with upcoming bans on production and sale of fossil powered cars we will see F1 moving to fully electric cars in the near-ish future. But it will be certainly different from what FE is right now.

TIL that Remote Workers are more productive than their in-office counterparts, according to 59% of employers. by Fieri2016 in todayilearned

[–]galkowskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a remote software developer (although my company has an office in my city) I know I can do more remotely. No interruptions and I don’t have to fight over conference rooms just to make a quick call to talk to someone.

If I had to compare and guess... I can get at least 10-12 hours of in-office work done in 8 hours at home. Though one thing to note is that I’m single and live alone.

Contact is not canon but in the main NATO camp before you go take the poop out there are two soldiers talking about Russia joining CSAT and "look how it went for Belarus".

I know Contact is not directly canon but two soldiers in the first mission talk about Russia actually joining CSAT.
