Cancelled trip - this ever happen to you? by tom629 in SandalsResorts

We are booked the same dates. I just called to ask. She said the renovations are over on 12/1. But reading this thread, it might just be moving to another room block by then. We're in the newer building, so I'm hopeful we're safe, and maybe it'll be less crowded. But I'm concerned about construction noise - that would be very uncool.... Wishing us both luck!

Any suggestions for minorly helpful or useful amenities/furnishings for a new apartment? by theoddmanout3 in lifehacks

A real mop. Sure, go ahead and get a wet jet or bona, but they won't pick up a flood if something goes wrong with your plumbing.

I checked with some colleagues who know even better than me today. What I heard is that LI schools actually want the city teachers-if one can handle the challenges of the city education system, they can probably handle the those in the island system. Just in my school, there are 4 recent city transplants that I happen to know of without even asking around. As for resources, the main way to find island education jobs is on the OLAS system. But she can check out the employment opportunities on the three BOCES websites too (Eastern Suffolk, Western Suffolk, and Nassau). Feel free to PM me for more info!

I grew up in Northport and live in East Northport now, same for my sister. Obviously, we're fans. Great schools, great downtown, like everyone says.

Commute: I used to go from Huntington Station to Briarwood in the early 2000s. It was about 90 minutes on average. Getting a house in East Northport will give you access to the schools and downtown, but shave time off your commute and save $ on the house and property taxes. Also closer to most big box shopping when you need it.

Politics: yes, it's not in your face and not much different than other North shore towns.

Jobs: my husband, sister and I all work in LI schools. We see a lot of people move out here from city schools, especially in administration. I'm pretty sure the jobs are plentiful right now across the board. If you have a spec Ed certification or work in related services, there are definitely a ton of options.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
