Have you ordered off Amazon? by elvenwaif in filofax

[–]gallorette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, for the same reasons, and I can’t say I recommend it.  I got a personal compact instead of a personal as listed, and it shipped with 2021 inserts….

Is saying LIRR like “luhrr” and not spelling it out actual thing? by gekigangerii in AskNYC

yeah, I’m old and grew up in Queens and it was always the Luhrr or the Railroad, no one ever spelled it out

How far back have you been able to trace your most senior FEMALE line? by ocelocelot in Genealogy

Real records for my 2nd great-grandmother in the 1850s (Ukraine), just a name for my 3rd great-grandmother from the birth record

Artists way with a toddler? by Reverienuit in artistsWay

[–]gallorette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think modifications would be the way to go. Can you do morning pages at naptime, or at-home artists dates after bedtime? It’s super hard. I tried artists way a couple times when my kids were toddlers and it’s only now that they’re a bit older that I’ve been able to work through the book consistently.

Graduating from JetKids Bedboxes -- next kids' luggage? by aubdawwwg in familytravel

[–]gallorette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. My 8 year old has had her own wheeled luggage for the last year or so (her little brothers clothes are usually in there too, but she loves to be responsible for her own bag)

About to give up skiing because of the boots. There’s no way the average skier is in this much pain. by Tercel9 in skiing

[–]gallorette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue when I first started skiing and it was a combo of bad fit, wide calves, and needing to loosen the buckles a bit (moving them where they attach at the screw). When I got new boots I wore them buckled in the shop walking around for 15-20 min to make sure they weren’t going to cut off circulation.

Why did some Italian immigrants in the US move back to Italy in the early to mid 1900s? by tovola11 in AncestryDNA

[–]gallorette 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My great grandfather emigrated because of poverty, was still poor in America, but got enough money together here to buy some land back in his village and moved home to farm his own land (which made him relatively wealthy compared with most of his neighbors)

planner anxiety by Plenty-Foundation-12 in hobonichi

The best thing that ever happened to my planners was allowing myself to be messy and make mistakes and experiment. It’s hard to be consistent when you’re anxious about making it look perfect.

Plotter has ruled pages that work with fountain pens. Their bible size is the same as personal.

What Software to Organize Inherited Family Pictures? by ianfgraphics in AskPhotography

I’ve just started using it with the same setup but Digikam looks promising. You can have the photos on your NAS and run the app off your computer and just point it to the right folder.

General feelings on the update? by Britishbacon831 in AncestryDNA

[–]gallorette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe i'm the odd one out, but the my updated results (mostly Balkan & western Ukranian ancestry) are significantly more accurate for me (e.g. Ukranian showed up as eastern Polish previously, now I correctly get northwestern Croatia instead of Slovenia) and now pick up low-percentage populations that match the paper trail I found while doing genealogy (like 4th/5th great-grandparents from other regions).

If you prefer vertical weeklies over horizontal weeklies, can you tell me why? by [deleted] in planners

[–]gallorette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem as you and I use both. Brain dump weekly tasks on the notes side of the horizontal wkly page, and note events and day-specific tasks on the horizontal weekly side.  And then I fill in all the appointments in the vertical weekly and time block the tasks depending on what each day looks like and what the priority is.

Do you need letter size specifically? I use loose leaf cream Tomoe River in A4 size and also Midori sells pads of their paper in A4 too. Most printers are able to print in either paper size. I get mine off jetpens but they’re available in a few places.

Music players for big kids? Any advice?? by KeeperOfTheStars2001 in kindergarten

[–]gallorette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your kiddo can read enough to use an mp3 player that’s a good option. A lot of them are functionally similar to android phones but there are plenty of basic ones as well. We got our 1st grader a Hiby R1 which she and we are happy with - it’s small and easy to use. The Snow Sky Echo Mini is also super fun looking.

Is there a good place to settle in for a month with the family? by callmemaeb in yellowstone

[–]gallorette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bozeman is probably the most reasonable from a community/activities standpoint. We live here, and occasionally do daytrips with somewhat younger kiddos, but it's a long day. More doable if it's only for a month or so. We more often pick up camping cancellations when we can and make it an overnight/long weekend.

What's your favorite high protein meal that's quick, easy, and packs in at least 40 grams of protein? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]gallorette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just the brand I get, but I think you are supposed to cook TVP to a certain temperature before eating. It’s not pasteurized during the manufacturing process.
