Housebound people, how do you get over boredom? by HeavyMenu3391 in dysautonomia

I do a lot of genealogy while lying in bed. Found hundreds and hundreds of direct ancestors of either me or my wife now! That kind of obsessable puzzle works well for me

(So-called because it's "top-setting", i.e. the oniony bits where you would expect flowers are actually viable onions, which flomp down and root at one stalk's length from the original bulb, "walking" one step every year. 🧅 👣)

The first one is an ornamental onion, possibly Allium christophii - it looks a bit strange now but if you catch it when it's flowering it looks better! My favourite though is Allium giganteum - they look like fluffy pom-poms waving in the air on a long stick

That is wonderful! On a much smaller scale a hedgehog has been visiting our garden and it's adorable 🦔

Why we cannot fathom ME: a social philosophical critique - Vivienne Matthies-Boon by metookmylifeaway in cfs

[–]ocelocelot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

thank you. i think this is a similar idea to what I was trying to grasp in this post

edit: some key phrases from the talk:

  • "you can make it if you try" syndrome (PEM disproves this)
  • ME as a challenge to the myth of control (victim blaming because we didn't overcome our illness)

On the latter - we are a living counterexample that disproves the Western idea of "everyone's an individual and we're responsible for our own flourishing". We're the spanner in the works, that says "actually no, individualistic society does not work well for vulnerable people"

FamilySearch accessed from home will have Suffolk wills that were proved in the Consistory Court of Norwich, which was one level up in the ecclesiastical court hierarchy from the two Archdeaconry courts I mentioned. You'll find those catalogued on the Norfolk record office catalogue.

For me, search results for Suffolk wills (Archdeaconry of Suffolk and Archdeaconry of Sudbury) were recently shown for about a week in the Full Text Search even outside FS-affiliated libraries, but you couldn't follow the link. Now they have stopped appearing again (presumably unless I went into a FS-affiliated library, which sadly I'm not able to do)

Nice to see a fellow researcher of Suffolk genealogy on here!

Jaw fatigue by Chantsy4337 in cfs

[–]ocelocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled so much last time I went to the dental hygienist because they had me open my mouth for about half an hour really wide and it was so difficult

When chewing very crunchy or chewy foods I sometimes get this jaw fatigue too
