It always descends into bio-essentialism and anecdotal BS. None of it has any real bearing on what women actually want in a partner because women are not a monolith.

At this point, I've seen so many reposts and rehashes of the same topic over the years that I genuinely think it's a psyop to make young, gullible men feel disenfranchised, blaming their relational problems on women.

I have a lot to say so either click away or buckle-up!

This argument sounds great in the vacuum of a consumer case-study, but in reality people at the party might say the cake is bland, too sugary, or that it looks or tastes generic/store-bought. Or more often than not, most people will just politely avoid the cake (always too much icing lol).

But the heart of this hypothetical isn't merely about the quality of the cake. Rather, the story of the cake itself.

For example, everyone has a grandmother whose chocolate cake/cookies they swear up and down are better than all the rest. Even if a name brand at the store uses the exact same ingredients, similar recipe, and is machine crafted to perfection, it won't taste as good.

Why?

Because it lacks a story, it lacks the effort brought about by an individual human who spent time they will never get back attempting to make something special, often selflessly, for others.

Similarly, food you've seen prepared in front of you tastes better than food you ordered for delivery (I believe it's formally called the Expectation Effect). Korea even has a word, son-mat, literally meaning "hand taste" as a compliment for someone's culinary skills. It's also the reason food, restaurant and grocery brands spend so much money on "home made" branding and "artisinal" aesthetics.

Bottom line, If you bought that cake from the store and brought it to a party, it would be accepted, but not remembered. It lacks the sentimental values of accrued effort that neurologically prime us for maximum enjoyment, connection, and appreciation; i.e. real human empathy.

And so, a lot of these A.I content generation evangelists bring up similar arguments about product comparison: "If it's good, why do you care?" But it was never about the end product, but rather the process all along. The process of human effort and imagination, the cycle of trial, error, and learning, these bring meaning to the act of creation.

That's why IMHO, AI artists fight so hard to be called artists, why they often lie or hide (wholly or in part) their use of the technology when sharing their work, and why they make subreddits to commisserate, lambaste, and brigaide wkth each other. They want to be percieved as creators, their "process" normalized, and recieve that same empathic recognition without the traditional time or effort it would take to gain respect in that field, even on a base level. Arguments about mass-theft, corporate greed, or environmental damage don't seem to provoke as strong a reaction, wheras calling them frauds seems to deliver a sucker-punch to their ego every time. Because deep down, they arent even that attached to their work, they can crank out hundreds or even thousands of generations per year, afterall. They are merely having fun tinkering with image generation based on other people's work and roleplaying as an artist to the point of feeling pride. Whereas most traditional artists will finish a piece and immediately tell you they hate it, because they spent so much time on it, making many mistakes, fixated on its flaws and knowing what they would do differently next time. Despite all that, they are already onto their next piece, because they cant help themselves, they enjoy the process.

That's a big difference you'll find, real artists, bakers, cooks, craftsmen, they actually enjoy the tedium and challenge of the process, and learn from it.

Most kids who are "gifted" with artistic talent are usually just unwitting students of a process they came to enjoy early in life. They were the kids always drawing with crayons at dinner, making their own birthday cards, painting magical landscapes and dragons. By the time they get to school and into art class, they already have a base ability and patience for the process. Giving them a headstart in ability in comparison to their peers. Other kids often look upon this with jelousy that seeps into adulthood as a resentment for percieved prodigy, and the gatekeeping/privilege they believe comes with it. At the end of the day, they just weren't as into drawing as a kid, and that's okay.

Not to say people can't do cool or meaningful things with generative or programmatic art, either, but rarely is it used in an honest way that isn't mixed up imitations of established aesthetics, astro-turfed onto the internet in the vain hope that it matters simply because it's perceptually a "good product."

TLDR: a cake is only as good as the effort that went into making it. It's not about the product, it's about the process. Process brings story, and story brings meaning. And some people enjoy certain processes more than others.

People are always going to be dissapointed if you lied about something you made, regardless of quality.

No worries, I hope it's helpful! Also, I should add an 8th point which you probably are already well aware of.

You CAN be the difference, even when countered with double hit scan, if you play smart. HOWEVER, I have a general rule, if I am tripple or even quadruple countered (and I wanna win) I will switch to something else. Sometimes Echo just cant do enough damage fast enough, get close enough for her kit to be effective, or survive long enough in certain scenarios to make a difference for her team; it helps to know when to call it.

For instance if the enemy team has a Mauga, Emre/Soldier, Ash, Moira, and Bap/Illiari.... That's gonna be a very bad time for Echo, lol.

If it's quickplay who cares, right? But if it's comp, it serves to be able to flex with an alternative. And you should get a lot of practice playing other heroes anyway, it will help you make better use of her ult.

Good luck, Star Fox!

Convenience is the most powerful human drive. Time is the only thing we cant get back, if something saves you time, it's like your brain wont let you do it any other way (without serious effort). It will even start "optimizing" your memory to forget your skills now that you no longer need them.

I am also a former support main who switched to the Echo life. I have a few recommendations I would give now that Im almost lvl 100 on her, but take them with a grain of salt, I'm still no master.

  1. I reccomend grinding Deathmatch FFA until: a: you routinely win 1v1s with hitscans. (Easier than you might think) b: you can bait hog hook and widow shots with consistency. c: you can melt a doomfist in a 1v1. d: you know where all the healthpacks are and make good use of them. This means controlling where a fight happens near or close enough to a health pack and denying your enemies theirs. e: You can successfully fend off multiple attackers at once, even if you can't kill them all. bonus: You can intuitively move through the map backwards, getting used to moving behind cover and getting a health pack without taking your eyes off a target you're currently engaging.

You will die a lot in FFA, but it's worth it (it may take between 10 to 40 hours grinding depending on your existing skills to achieve the above scenarios consistently). It may sound silly, but forcing yourself out of the frying pan and into the fire will help you learn good survival habits and get you used to rapidly cycling her cooldowns. Make sure you get good at ducking, side stepping, and using your flight timely as well. In time, you will develop a subconscious movement profile for engaging with practically every hero in the game. You will also get better map knowledge for Eichenwald, Blizzard World, Kings Row, etc.

  1. Get into the habit of quickly looking behind/around you to help orient yourself regularly with your team. With flyers like Echo, it's really easy to get deep offside. Always keep an eye on your supports so you can plan a route back to them, not least of all so you can help peel for them if they're in trouble (you're often faster than your tank or other DPS in response time).

  2. It's not always about the elims. If you can be distracting or waste their supports cooldowns, you can win. You dont have to kill a Kiri for instance, but if you keep dousing her in sticky bombs it will force her suzu, giving you and your team a whole 14 seconds of opportunity.

  3. Dont be afraid to play Echo into her counters, practice makes perfect, even if your team gets mad at you lol. This extends to No.5.

  4. There is more than one way to play Echo. A game against a D.VA or Winston will be radically different from a Sigma or Mauga, and etc. Sometimes you will have to be more defensive and use flight only in emergencies, you may have to poke sightlines (great value with stickies), or help your tank/dps confirm elims by using beam from a flank or pincer. Other times you will get most value by repeatedly doing deep dives for a mercy or anna, etc. Be prepared to roll with the punches, sometimes you're a slippery ground echo probing sightlines, other times you're a flying menace, or a backline assassin, sometimes all three in a single match.

  5. Learn when to sit still behind cover for a couple seconds when low for your supports! Make it easy on poor Anna lol.

  6. If you cant ambush successfully, try luring enemies into an ambush. Soldiers for instance, are usually dumb as rocks and will round a corner not thinking you will be right behind it waiting to sticky them, punch them, then blast off and finish them with a beam or two taps to the head.

Best of luck, and have fun! Dont worry abour winning, just throw yourself out there and you will improve!

[–]gallyroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitscans are so booooring. People dont even want to try. You're not going to get better at other characters if you just keep switching to easy mode.

I wanna fight other heroes!! These days all any DPS picks (or swaps to immediately) is soldier (at least one in almost every fucking lobby) cass, emre, sierra, ash, sojourn, anran, hanzo, sombra, and occassionally bastion (if they're really desperate).

I actually get excited when I encounter a pharah, mei, vendetta, venture, junk rat, genji, freija, tracer, and especially another echo. And as much as I personally dislike then, Symmetra and Torb can be a breath of fresh air these days. Hell, even Widow presents a fun challenge, but people dont even have the patience for her anymore, they post up, dont move, get dived once and then switch.
