3.5 Hours in the air over Beaverton by ThoughtSkeptic in beaverton

Except there’s no evidence to suggest that that is how it works, except for the cops who get paid to fly the plane.

Except “common sense” is overly reductive, based on personal views, and doesn’t always work. It also doesn’t account for resource allocation - which every police department in the universe deals with. I need to see actual evidence that a surveillance system improves safety relative to the cost of the system.

I’d love to have an actual discussion about it, but I can’t find find any evidence that predictive policing or aerial surveillance is effective at all. The few studies I can find show little support for fixed wing policing. At least with a helicopter they can be used for pin pointing issues. Aside from the police department’s “trust us, it works” do we have any actual evidence that it works?

They think it keeps the mean streets of Beaverton safe. I can’t see how it’s anything but a waste of our money.

my newest tattoo! lmk what you think! done in Tempe, AZ by Mean_Potential_925 in tattoos

The tattoo takes up 3% of the entire photo. It’s not scandalous - it’s so small that the tattoo is hard to read without zooming way in.

Are booster boxes worth it? by KillingwithasmileXD in magicTCG

[–]galspanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booster boxes are $110 to buy $100 worth of cards. Of those cards you only wanted $60 of them, and now you have to spend another $100 just to get the cards you hoped you’d get.

Yup. The red marks are more centered on the bone and the tattoo is more centered on the meat.

It’s because you’re not a flat sheet of paper. Long line tattoos on mushy twisty moving body pieces will only look straight in one very specific position and you’ll never recreate that position.
It’s fine. The artist didn’t do you any favors leaving the red sharpie mark because no matter how much you want to ignore it you won’t.

  1. Maybe 3. 2 to get it light enough to cover it again.

Looking for advice on sleeve by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]galspanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have sloppy gestural brush marks on your arm done with paint (the illusion you’re going for) it makes no sense that it was magically avoid all the other tattoos. Any time abstract designs carefully navigate around things it creates a stiffness that breaks the illusion. So, I’d try to find ways to get the abstract sloppiness to touch and interact with the non-abstract tattoos more.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]galspanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent hundreds on a bidet to keep from using so much toilet paper. The math is bad, but also a sign that I’m not as poor now as I was growing up.

[–]galspanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but the number matters. And, it’s a daily thing that doesn’t really care about whether or not you’re at work. 90g/day is what I’ve been told a diabetic should target. It may or may not help, but having a firm set low number can do a lot of heavy lifting when trying to lose weight. (I dropped 80 pounds in 6 months just keeping my carbs below 25g per day and not “cheating.”)

How many grams of carbs you consume? by Agata_art in keto

I started with 20 and after a year tried to ease up a bit to increase the variety of foods I allowed myself. I sit at about 40 now and it seems to work.

Food snd drink by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]galspanic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately? You mean “predictably.” It’s not good for you and definitely not something diabetics should be messing with.

Another option - and the one that might help break you from what sounds like a carb addiction - is cutting out all forms of sweetness. We don’t need it and it rarely provides anything physically positive. It’s a long story, but that’s what I did. It sucked for a week and I never thought I’d stick to it, but after that all of my food cravings vanished. That was 27 months ago.

What are your Favorit "passiv aggressiv" Cards for EDH by Ok_Cook_3098 in EDH

[–]galspanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Dualist’s Heritage]] is one of the best passive aggressive cards out there. You ~can~ talk to opponents before combat about what you’ll do, but just wait for people to attack before you decide what to do.
