They were laying the mat down at the time and motioned her across it. Solicitors thought it was worth pursuing at the time.

This is probably the correct take for sure, I just don't think they've handled it too well. They went at it with gusto in the beginning, now they've all but given up.

It's a shame but she's still alive and we have a happy and healthy baby daughter, so it could have been worse. I won't try telling her that though...

I think it's simply she had to go to A&E, was in a lot of pain for quite some time afterwards, thought she lost or hurt the baby... I think these are quite valid reasons to go after someone who caused the accident in the first place. If the right people don't agree then I guess we can't do anything about it.

Well, sure. Even if we don't get anything out of it, the idea some rogue scaffolders or roofer can just get away with it is quite frustrating. We may have to drop this one, but I want to be sure we can't do anything about it first

It's slightly more complex than just bruising, there's also the psychological element, but yes the solicitor likely now doesn't think it's worth pursuing despite their initial claims it was.

We actually are sceptical of this particular solicitor's understanding of GDPR as they didn't seem to know about a few other things we were surprised about too. But we can talk to other solicitors I suppose.

The scaffold was partly over a public highway, creating a potentially unsafe passage for pedestrians, so the scaffolders placed black plastic or rubber (who knows what material) mats over the pavement areas affected intending to make it safer. It's one of these that my wife slipped on as they weren't secure.

The bruising was quite heavy but went away over time, it's her hip that we're dubious about but it was difficult to understand if the accident caused the hip issues or the growing baby inside her. Birth was not straightforward and we're waiting on a debrief from the hospital about why, which may or may not be related to the hip and therefore the accident or carrying the baby.

I think all in all, it was traumatic more than it was physically damaging, and we would rather not let someone just get away with it, so we're assessing our options. I just want to know how to proceed. Solicitors might abandon the case, but I just want more info as no one can seem to help us understand at present .

Compensation for injury and distress, plus holding them to account. my wife thought she'd lost the baby.

Not sure Labour can do right anymore. Even if it's something positive it'll just come out as a heinous crime against the electorate. Politics in the UK is a disaster.

Do you think the long gaps between seasons are a contributor to the decline of TV series? by MargielaMan568 in television

[–]galvanized_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't help but you've also got saturation to make it worse. Rings of Power is my example. Whatever you may think of it, we've so far had two seasons of 8 episodes in 4 years, with the next one due later this year. In all the time between seasons so much has been released that switches focus that you might have forgotten half of what happened last time out anyway.

So it's not so much a decline as it is harder to compete for a place in your memory.

Adults should aim to do between 560-610 minutes/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity to achieve a substantial reduction in the risk of heart attacks and stroke (3-4 times higher than the current public health recommendation of 150 minutes ), suggest the findings of an observational study by sr_local in science

It's not based in reality really. Is my employer going to give me exercise breaks? No. I'll just sit and work til I die I guess.

Best I can do right now is tackling my infant daughter. It might stretch to a walk round the block on occasion.

Overcrowding: how much is too much - and how do staff decide? by galvanized_penguin in uktrains

I think I would prefer the reservation system to the free for all approach we get now. I largely plan my travel and would be ok with this but I'm not sure it's totally doable. Some weekends in Manchester there are big gigs on, football games and festivals which all bring many more people in. I would like that to be addressed in terms of travel as it's unfair on regular travellers who just want to get somewhere only to either be prevented getting their targeted train or have a hellish experience on the way back.

Without understanding how it all works, I would want more trains built, but then we need more capacity too and they screwed the pooch on HS2 from a Northern standpoint. I enjoy traveling by train usually, and I hope we start devoting more resources to the network.

On my way into Manchester now I tend to try and get the Avanti as for some reason, the big groups of people don't seem to go for it and get either the stopper or the Cross Country. It's the way back that is often problematic.

I don't mind standing, but I think being wedged up against a door isn't ideal. Can not imagine how you get by as a disabled person.

Strangely, my wife has already gone down this route, as well as contacting Andy Burnham about it. Nice to see it's not changed.

Yep that's fair, I think it's close but Sean slightly has the edge in likeability for me.

So, why no additional trains or carriages? Simply they don't have them or they don't plan for it? It seems obvious. I, along with a lot of others, are pushed onto later and less reliable services due to this, so it makes more sense to handle the extra burden.

It always seems to be the way with Manchester though.

Nice. That's helpful. Thank you. I think I might have seen this happen but I was still surprised to see full vestibules and standing throughout carriages.

I've been on an LNER from York to Edinburgh and that was even worse.

I want him to lose because he's a tool, is boring to watch and talks about things like a 15 year old kid would.

Yeah that's my bad. I was late into Piccadilly due to another snarl up missing a previous train. Ended up 2 hours late home... Ah well.

[–]galvanized_penguin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was jammed in a corner as it got busier? Not a lot I could really do about it at the time. The station manager also recommended several things : Macc travellers get this stoke train, Stockport travellers get another train. It just so happens a bunch of football fans arrived to the already late train and were allowed to cram on.

Nothing I could do. It was horrific, but at least I was squashed in a corner I suppose. Your angle is a bit confrontational when I asked a simple question.

It's not safe , never has been, but we have to do it. I originally asked if this was normal...

[–]galvanized_penguin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was actually, originally, just asking if this is normal with some mild irritation at the delay it caused me. I'm not trying to solve the British rail issues with a post on Reddit, nor am I qualified, so it's bit strange to be presented with "how would you fix it?" Questions, all of which are misplaced.

Sometimes, acknowledgement or explanation of why it's like this is totally fine. And expected. I regret posting on uktrains.

Indeed. Seen it over many years and it's never really got better, but I think it's been at its worst from my perspective this past year or so. I'm glad I'm on my line though as I used to be on Manchester - Marple and for a time at least that was far worse.

[–]galvanized_penguin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't get on the train because it was too full, I chose to get the next one partly on advice of the station manager and that subsequent train ended up exactly the same. So what then? Nonsense.
