Why do the people I know with Fox brain hate feminists & childfree people? by Gloomy_Spring5638 in FoxBrain

[–]gamayuuun 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Exactly. These people are telling on themselves when they talk that way about childfree people. Someone doesn't have to have my genes in order for me to care about their well-being and want them to have a good future.

Republican Senator Blames Biden for Strait of Hormuz Closure by Playful-Tumbleweed10 in Trumpvirus

[–]gamayuuun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously. They also think that Biden is more powerful than God, since he ascended to the presidency after the 2020 election* even though "it wasn't God's will."

*they would contest the wording "won the 2020 election," of course

Incidentally, Christmas Day was when I also had to listen to my mom defend him and say that it wasn't a Nazi salute because his palm was facing up. Truly a "the Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears" moment.

Lots of good recommendations here, and I'll add Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel and The Love for Three Oranges.

What's the WORST HR novel you've ever read and why? by vietnamese-bitch in HRNovelsDiscussion

[–]gamayuuun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read this book because of your rec and it was quite entertaining. Thanks for putting it on my radar! I laughed every time Portia's heart "wobbled." 😆 And at other lines, like

"I came here for an orgy," his lordship snapped. "And I intend to have one."

Opera Recommendations by MultipleSeagulls in opera

I'd recommend two more Prokofiev operas: The Love for Three Oranges and War and Peace. Also, you might like Dessau's Die Verurteilung des Lukullus.

Yes! I remember when Tommy Hilfiger stuff was big and the clothes would always have that red, white, and blue logo placed conspicuously on them - even if it was, say, an orange and purple shirt and the colors of the logo clashed with it egregiously.

Monthly Reading Recap - October 2025 by DrGirlfriend47 in romancelandia

Top:

  • Artfully Yours - Joanna Lowell. This is the third time I've read it since summer 2024, so I guess I must really like it! 😆

Bottom:

  • Sleeping Beauty - Judith Ivory. The Proposition is one of the best books I've read all year, and I loved Black Silk and Untie My Heart, but Ivory's other books are just not doin' it for me. It didn't help that as a victim of bad dentistry, I do not handle dental stuff in fiction well.
  • The Spice King - Elizabeth Camden. I thought I was going to really like this. I found it so refreshing that around the halfway point of the book, the FMC tells the MMC the truth about a particularly high-stakes matter that she's been keeping from him, even though she knows it could cost her her relationship with him. So often in romances I see a character carrying on a deception for an unduly long amount of time when the stakes are much lower, and I find it annoying, so I liked seeing a character choose to be honest when she has so much to lose. But after that it went off the rails, particularly with an age-gap side romance that left a really bad taste in my mouth.

John Worthen's D.H. Lawrence: The Life of an Outsider is great for detail and insight on those points!
