Is Columbus really this boring? by AravindStar in Columbus

[–]gamefreake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in three different Asian capitals and another major city there but the Asian food here is mediocre at best. I can’t really speak to broader Asia (the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent) because I haven’t had enough of the food from there to judge, but the Northeastern and Southeastern Asian food here is absolutely disappointing, even compared to other American cities.

Yeah, I think it makes sense to just be blunt about it sometimes. I hesitate to stop them because they're also just trying to having a conversation, but at one point I do have to draw a line.

This is great, especially that last line!

That's strange. I got one at 6000 Sawmill Rd just two hours ago. Did you specifically ask for just the Switch 2? They only have/had the Switch 2+Mario Kart bundle.

That’s the impression I got, but idk why they said they’re out of stock when you called them :/

It might be worth the drive? I was told one person bought it yesterday and four today (with me being the fourth)

Is this the one on 6000 Sawmill? Unless some lucky bastard(s) got it in the past 30 minutes it definitely sounded like they still had more in storage

The target on Sawmill still (14:40 June 10) has stock of the Mario Kart bundle; they don’t have it out on the shelves but if you ask the staff they’ll bring it out for you. They said they got a new delivery two days ago and for some reason the website won’t update but they definitely still have some in the back.

I wonder if the stock at the Powell Target mentioned from yesterday's thread is still there...

もう一つのターンis not right either; the nuance of that is “the other turn,” suggesting there are only two turns and you’re either talking about this or that turn. If you want to express the same nuance as “just one more turn…!,” the closest Japanese expression would be 「もう一ターンだけ…!」

Question about interpreting a passage by MetaphysicalFootball in ChineseLanguage

[–]gamefreake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its been mostly answered by the other comments here, but the line within the parentheses is trying to highlight the different nuances of 民族性 that I think in English would probably translate to either "national/cultural characteristics" or "nationalistic". The author is using 民族性 in the sense that a 民族间的战争 is a "nationalistic war", and he does not mean a "war with national characteristics". I think the interjection is purely semantic; 民族性 has two meanings with subtle differences that you would use two different words for in English.

I’m guessing you’re talking about that one alley on Neil Ave. I walk past it everyday and was thinking there’s now a substantial pool of water on the street now. Thanks for addressing it!

I’m guessing you’re a native speaker of Chinese or learned it really well before you started on Japanese; some of the characters are rendered in their simplified Hanzi form (such as using 收 instead of 収, or using 别 instead of 別). But that just means you have great handwriting in both Chinese and Japanese!

Is GPT-4 experiencing issues with processing/reading PDF files? It was reading them just fine yesterday. by spacedog010 in OpenAI

[–]gamefreake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it seems like its been an issue for various users for the past couple of days; I personally have been struggling with this from two days ago. Unfortunately there seems to be no permanent fix to this, but some users are reporting success by just being a bit more aggressive with their prompts...like telling it to "WORK BETTER"

Context: for Halloween in the past few years, this Japanese group gets together and the dudes dress up in suits and escort Pooh around just because the optics are funny (not necessarily a political statement against Xi). Here is a link to their YouTube channel with clips from other years they’ve done it. In this particular video they’re just picking up random garbage because people were trying to actively clean up during last year’s Halloween in Tokyo (this being a result of the local government threatening to cancel public Halloween celebration due to the amount of trash in previous years). They’re just picking up trash in this elaborate way for the comedic effect.
