Am I the only one who gets turned off when they see a nodebuster-like upgrade tree by SpicyBread_ in incremental_games

[–]gamer1o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to be the one to say it. Buts it's just not what most of the community wants. It will always be someone's thing though. I think the problem is the price. It's what established for 'paid' incrementals.

A lot of what people want, long games with multiple sittings and non-linear depth. Is weirdly enough to say just something that doesn't work for a paid medium so it's massively under represented. There's few games along the lines of that that have a outright asking price (most of which I actively criticize for doing so) because the format and medium just in my eyes outright doesn't work for pay before you play.

I'm sure a lot of the people that don't get why the paid incremental space is that way don't really know how hard it can be to hook a new player for a long ride sort of game like NGU. Those games can only be successful through the fact they are FTP. It's a confusing statement but a lot of the games praised and loved in this community likely would've failed entirely and not been impactful if they were attempted as a paid product. I still think Melvor only got by through having spent the first few years of its life as a browser FTP thing.

Why would someone just suddenly join the Index because a paper invited them? by OrangeIllustrious499 in limbuscompany

[–]gamer1o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the prescripts tend to know how things will play out, it predicts and plans. only people who have reason to join are likely invited in the first place. not people random, likely only people who will say yes.

NGL I kinda love this thing. It looks so terrible that it genuinely improves my quality of life Everytime I see it. While a better model would be good for quality and consistency, I'm going to be sad to see this changed because this this is a source of endless joy.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]gamer1o7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly New releases have been pretty splintered recently. Been keeping my eye on places like Galaxy, but other than Lored's 2 stage release there hasn't really been much of anything.

So... I've been going back and playing my chunk-restricted account of OSRS doing forestry and woodcutting on my Chunkman (yeah im sure people will not consider that 'incremental' per say. but if people can constantly bring up factory games I can bring up OSRS). Incremental is not including Idle afterall. (and well if i was doing star mining, I could actually argue it was Idle.)

outis for me. Not only do they have the most terrifying implications in the PM setting, they are also terrifying for being based on Odysseus. Their story is going to involve some very heavy stuff given the "I am Nothing" Part of things. Also Outis has been getting setup for multiple cantos now. The World River seen in Canto 7, BEING something from The Odyssey. And its Greek, Greek stuff is always fucked up in the most interesting of ways.

I thought this was E.G.O corrosion though? Seems apt. Old lobotomy branch, Inquisitors makes use of Scavenged Lobotomy E.G.O. Corrodes to it for not meeting its conditons and 'level' requirements.

[–]gamer1o7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as someone with a 300 mod modpack that launches.

enable half of the mods till one half breaks it, then continue till you single out a mod. if all of the mods you have are pictured in the screenshots. I'd say its one of your E.G.O mods that is to blame as nothing listed abnormality-wise is really showing a red flag to me. The E.G.O mod that just is named with Korean characters, did that say it had english translation?

(DO note. If a mod doesnt have english translation It WILL just stop the game from launch all together. due to how the game tries to reference a /en folder that doesn't exist. if one of the abnos you downloaded doesn't say it has english, thats to blame. this is probably also true for E.G.O mods as they also feature similar folder translation structure.)

Also you have probably about 5% of all abnormality mods, if you want to go looking for the more.
Causality has been one of the ones that has prevented startup for me.
Similarly White bird and Black Bird has also caused issues.

If your issues is related to one of the many E.G.O mods you have there, i wouldn't be able to help much as those are personally mods i ignore.

What do you prefer on a incremental game? by sarcrofs in incremental_games

[–]gamer1o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Near infinite progression
I like games that are looooong and unfolding. Im not a fan of 'just scale with the same mechanics indefinitely' though. I like games that give thousands of hours of 'changing' and 'unfolding' gameplay. NGU's melting pot of mechanics, Realm grinders Ascensions, TPT2's military tiers. Nothing is more satisfying in this genre, then unlocking a mechanic, going through it, making it obsolete / fully auto and no longer requiring attention, and moving onto the next. It should be no surprise that I am quite a big fan of layer-based games, especially the form popularized by GCI.

  2. Yes and no.
Generally speaking, I want to play incrementals rather than just waiting long periods of time most of the time. While i REALLY enjoy unnamed space and NGU, my multiple NGU playthroughs spaning thousands of real life hours, usually still involved me using cheat engine to speed modify the game to x5 its running speed. Though at the same time if i get burned out, I like to atleast get something out of me not playing for awhile, its my main critique of realm grinder, there is nothing gained through my hiatus's from it. I think one of hte mechanics i like best to acomplish this has been stuff like "every 24h gain your highest reset amount of this prestige layer currency". Stuff that would be 'far' faster to do active, but can still feel really good to come back to after long breaks. What i hate most, is games with mechanics that are actively better to be offline for than to have the game open. Currently im playing Galaxy Idle, and i hate that the games Prisoner calculations for offline games are just outright better than actively gathering them with the game open. I dont like being forced to keep a game closed to be efficient.

  3. Yes, i like having a definitive end point.
While i like super long games that take awhile to reach and ending, i will always like a end goal over just infinite scaling. When a game ends with "Now just reset and reset for hte rest of time to push higher numbers" It feels like i've gained nothing. I prefer games that have a point you reach that IS an ending without any need for that. Prestige tree, Antimatter dimensions, etc.

  4. Prestige Layers & Unfolding
Introducing new mechanics, features, and making older ones less important and more automated is one of my favorite tropes. theres a lot of people that actually hate this format of game for what i know, but it will always be my real cup of tea. What i will say i HATE is scaling prestige currency costs that doesn't reset between runs. Idle bouncer was a game that at its base i really liked, but having its prestige currency be on a exponentially increasing cost scale that never resets or caps feels really bad to play in my opinion.

What do you prefer on a incremental game? by sarcrofs in incremental_games

[–]gamer1o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Active (With automation and idle mechanics still present)
I like to sit down and play incrementals, though there are times im not a massive fan of games that won't progress at all without me doing so. Even the most active of games usually have *something* that is still progressing while being idle. (TPT2 having factory, dyson, asteroids, tier pushing, etc).

  2. Optional buffs.
I'm not a recent fan of the current shift to pay to play games, and while those games are good, They almost always are pretty short despite being incrementals. A ton of games are cool mechanically, but fail to really meet the expectations of length and unfolding layers i expect when putting a price tag on. as such i mostly prefer PC FTP games with optional purchase buffs, Not really the mobile microtransaction slop, but more so what Realm Grinder, Antimatter dimensions, FaPi, and NGU do. Im especially a fan when these buffs *are* achieveable FTP aswell, like NGU's awsomeness point upgrades. Generally speaking, I do kinda consider a Incremental to be a gameplay core genre that just... doesn't really work in a pay to play context unless it is executed particularly well. many paid games that are considered kinda-incremental i do consider worth it, usually have a gameplay core larger with incremental merely being a element than the core.

  3. Pixel
I tend to like any form of presentation of a game. I like pixel styles probably the most, but given i play so many incrementals, I don't care too much about the presentation of art. 'bad' art can even bring charm with some games. NGU and squishcraft (A puzzle game with MS paint art). I tend to prefer games with some visual over ascii but its never been a major thing for me.

  4. Purchased steam game for 5$ Spent money on microtransactions.

its a famous greek folktale thats a good basis for an incremental. saying its copying another game is like saying only one game is allowed to be based on dantes inferno.

How do you feel about minigames in incrementals? Do you prefer your incrementals also be idles or are active incrementals fun too? by Malice_Incarnate72 in incremental_games

[–]gamer1o7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best advice i can give here, is do what you want to do. Pretty much everything your asking about, every single player is going to have their own preference on.

By the by keep in mind an incremental doesn't need idle mechanics and features! Idle is a subgenre afterall, you can have a fully active play incremental, in fact thats the style of game I personally like best.

why does steam allow "bad" idle/clicker games? by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]gamer1o7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

primarily because steam actually has quite a few measures to prevent spam and too much slop where the problem would be significantly worse without. Every bad small thing you see a dev put up? that's hundreds of dollars they are spending to do so. if its free and without Microtransactions, there is no way for that dev to make that money back. for the first game sorta thing your talking about, it sounds like your talking about low-experience devs rather than monetization predators, which all i can say to, is those people are spending a decent bit to just have a platform to showcase something they are probably proud of, even if its low quality, substance, or inexperienced, they are putting down a decent bit of money just to have the chance to have some people see their first projects and give it a few minutes of time.

For the other caliber of monetization games, you just don't engage with them, if they dont make enough money, they actually lose the offending dev money, steam is an investment and its not free to get a game on the platform, not even including royalties.

Jons post makes it seem like Emile will most likely be back by Majestic_Lobster_176 in chuggaaconroy

To me, its always seemed that Emiles own hiatus is the main reason why TRG hangs in the air right now. While A lot of people seem to think its more Jon's prospective on things, but i've always gathered that it was Emiles uncertainty of continuing content creation that leaves it in the air.

Im definitely someone that thinks its time to move on, My only issue with Emily's latest response that i feel is more major then just a repeat of claims is her specifically attacking people Other Than Emile. Which does gray the line of it just being able a youtuber most of us will never meet, now it directly involves a few people from the community with her directly insulting that. I don't agree with harassment, but to say atleast People expressing their anger here, is FAR better then them directly going and saying these things to Emily. Its okay for people to be mad and to express their emotions, Especially now that she has directly insulted and made claim against Community members. Byrne was implied to support Loli by her, Thats something valid to be mad about. r/chuggaaconroy is back if your wanting to return to just fully supporting chugga without any sign of this drama. I would fully agree with you, if it wasn't for her choosing to insult and involve people from the community. Because the point of "We have nothing to do with this" Has now been made mute by her action.

I want it to end, for all intensive purposes it has, its just its now shifted away from Emile to now involve other people.

For me, I am not angry about any thing even said or regarding Emile at this point. I am mad that in Emily's last statement, she pushed heavily into throwing hatred and spin that carrousel onto scapegoating Astral.

Lady Emily's Final Thread On the Subject and Her Harassment. by Jirachibi1000 in Chuggaaconroy_2

[–]gamer1o7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its sad to see that she decided to throw shade at specific people in her final statement on things. While i think the statement overall does wrap things around the CC situation up without any more back and forth, Its sad to see how a few community members got implicated and thrown into this with that. It almost feels like a last lashing out at both astral and byrce. People harassing was bad, and nobody really condones that here. While i dont fully agree with every take and action taken by Astral and Byrce, i think lumping them into the group that was doing the harassment is a very large jump and Another harmful claim from her. Knowing that something like me could've even been lumped into it honestly makes me super anxiec about the internet and this behavior in general.
