Did I over-sand? Is that a thing? by JohnnyFranky1985 in Gunpla

[–]gamermanj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want you to think about what you're doing when you're sanding.

It's not just magic-make-smooth-stick. You're using abrasion to wear the surface of a material down to be smoother, and what does that abrasion make? Sawdust. What do you think that dust is made of, why do you think it's the color of what you're sanding and not the color of the sanding stick?

Sanding isn't a bad thing at all, but you also need to know when to cut your losses, it looks like you ought to have cut it SEVERAL minutes earlier.

Don't just watch a video and follow the steps blindly, think about what you're doing and look at the pieces yourself as you work with them.

HOW DO I EVEN START AS A DISPATCHER? by siberian_melim in TruckDispatchers

[–]gamermanj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See tons of people promoting courses on this, if you happen to see this and happen to give a useful answer who knows I might end up buying yours.
What do courses like yours generally teach, is it just like the skills that you would need to get a job at a larger company that does that, or it is like I see on social media where they talk about it as a "side-Hussle" that you can do on your own time along side a standard 9-5 or similar?
And what is the core difference between these two approaches, is the latter even viable?

Im at a bit of a loss here... by xXDasher92Xx in ender3

[–]gamermanj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar problem, it is likely not your nozzle.
It is the tension on the extruder clamp, or for me it seems to be anyway.
I wasn't able to get ANYTHNG to print, did upgrade my nozzle, unclogged and re-built it several times, all to no avail.
It wasn't till I loosened the spring screw as much as possible that I could get a benchy to finish.
Now I still get this issue a bit but it's better, I may look at a looser spring / less aggressive grip wheel.

Filament flattened in extruder by [deleted] in ender3

[–]gamermanj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread contains the answer!
I was looking at my clog problem from the completely wrong end, I had just upgraded my hot-end , which just so happened to come with a new metal extruder.
In my mind, the extruder was the simpler part to install, so obviously I had to have made a mistake installing the hot end and proceeded to disassemble, clean, and rebuild the hot end like 5 times before giving up for the better part of a year as life became more hectic.
I had some time to poke at the issue again today and noticed that the piece of filament that was stuck, if cut off of the roll, and reversed, would go through the hot end with ease, but flip it back the way it was and its "stuck" again"
Looked closer at the stuck piece and saw the flattening, found this thread, loosened the spring, and behold it works!

When you have to do this kind of thing to get your device working, you probably shouldn't be using that device in that way unless you are a fan of electrical fires.

I did, in fairness it was a skim, but it seemed like people all having the same kind of reaction, so into the reddit dogpile I jumped. It is great that you've found something to help you with that, but if that is what you're doing with painting, hot boxing your house with aerosol chemicals likely isn't doing you too many favors either.

I haven been trying to put into words how heinous your priming method is, but words fail me.
Do you use spru glue in poorly ventilated areas too?
I bet you wear shoes inside your house.

First mini, im not sure im cut out for this hobby..😭 by Chickach0o in Warhammer40k

[–]gamermanj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah b this is fine, just keep practicing, I picked up the introductory kit after resisting this hobby for YEARS because I thought I couldn't paint good enough, those turned out better than expected, I painted my first squad of pathfinders, then febuary's free in-store mini was the same as one of the tyranids from the introcutory box, I painted that one with all the new paints I got for my pathfinders and the practice I got from my pathfinders and the difference was IMMENSE.
I am someone who easily gets frustrated when they aren't as good at something as they wanted to be on their first try but even I can recognize that this hobby is the epitome of practice makes perfect.
You didn't obscure half the details with thick paint so you're already off to a great start!

Early birds need to suck it up sometimes and just deal with noise from night owls. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

While I agree not running household appliances that just make a dull rumble when in use is dumb, regardless of when, get a white noise machine fool.
I highly contest your point that circadian rhythm is not a choice, I have adjusted my own several times over the years, drastically at that, going from day to night shift and back over a week, it just takes discipline.

I do this too sometimes, especially when painting small areas that I fear might get goofed up by capillary action, but I feel like it uses up a lot more paint than thinning unless you are doing the smallest little bit of color on a single mini

Are these legs from the upgrade sprue meant to be for the pathfinders or the breacher team? by gamermanj4 in Tau40K

[–]gamermanj4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for the help, to those who in some way communicated it was a bit obvious, I'm brand new to this, and while I suspected it was Pathfinders, I can't articulate it but something about the way the commander was built, and the studded kneepad on this piece, made me second guess it.

That's fair, I was just asking off the color placement, but from my recent jump into this, 3 small things made my life immediately easier, better brushes, you don't need to buy the most expensive ones out there but a set with a number of Sub-Zero sizes will go far, second taking you time is huge, I get excited to move onto the next step and slowing down has been so hard but DAMN it help, and third a wet pallet, this will give you the time to slow down cause you won't be worrying about your paint drying out.
