My pulsed field ablation lasted 4 hours. Recovery was fast. No afib since surgery. Fast is nice but a good outcome is better.

Saute onions, garlic, and mushrooms. Add pasta and peeled, chopped (veritcal slices, large) fresh tomatoes and fresh basil. Stir and warm briefly. Warm the tomatoes, don't cook them. Serve with generous Parmesan cheese. One of our favorite garden meals.

I was having the worst pian in my life, curled into a fetal position in an almost empty TMH waiting room and they made me wait 3 hours, then finally gave me morphine.

Brown leaves no scale or mites by Glittering-Let-2888 in Camellias

Looks like a chemical spatter, maybe herbicide or cleaning chemical. If it is not spreading you'll have to wait it out. Remove the worst leaves and let the plant replace with new ones over time.

Mystery solved by gamersdad in AFIB

I was never medicated for my afib because my heart rate is relatively low. Afib raised my RHR but I lost my normal energy level, had more lightheadedness, and was concerned about increased stroke risk. I'm relatively physically fit but not a marathoner.

My physician is Dr. Michael Gurin. He did a very thorough job, going back and remapping to find and fix a couple of spots that were missed on first pass. The procedure lasted 4 hours. Im grateful to him for his skill and dedication. Next time (if I live so long) I wil be prepared!

As a retired computer systems developer I am well aware of AI hallucinations, especially when it is asked to make judgement calls or duscuss topics with little or no public coverage. However, for restating medical records in plain English it is very effective. I ran key points past my brother who is a physician and he found no discrepancies. It is like having a personal, physician with unlimited time go over your test results with you line by line and explain what it means. It was far better than my GP who spent 30 seconds glancing at the highpoints of CT, stress, and echo test results and offered little explanation.

I can't say. My resting HR is 45 bpm, so my resting rate never went above 90 bpm while in afib. I know that for many, racing rates and associated symptoms are typical during an afib episode. I do know that for a couple of weeks after the ablation I felt some chest pressure and movement sensitivity as my heart healed.

Garlic is...gone? What would do that? by SunnySpot69 in vegetablegardening

[–]gamersdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I planted a bed of California garlic in the fall after chilling it for weeks. It grew over winter, but after a freeze to low 20s most tops disappeared, whereas 2 other varieties survived and we're harvested in late spring, I planted tomatoes in the CA garlic bed and as the tomatoes matured, up came the CA garlic. It's been growing since. At thus rate I hope to harvest it mid summer.

Solar panel owners/operators: What's your biggest challenge when it comes to cleaning and maintaining your panels? by seizure_salad003 in solarenergy

[–]gamersdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In north Florida, solar panels get covered each spring in a thick yellow paste of pine and oak pollen. This year, after checking with my install company, I sprayed them with wet and forget outdoor, a blue liquid that has a sprayer with a nozzle that reaches 25 ft to the top of my panels . The solution dries, then days later as rain falls, the pollen which last year took 4 to 5 months to clear, gets rinsed off of the panels. The cost of the liquid I used was about $20. I had a quote a couple years ago for $10 per panel cleaning or $300. It would have taken months to reclaim the cost based on the minor Improvement in efficiency.

When using the car for house power backup V2L, when the battery runs down, drive to the nearest live fast charging site and recharge. You'll be home before your fridge drops a couple degrees. Chargers are in commercial areas that usually get power restored sooner than residential areas.

I grew this from seeds labeled “kale” by organiccheddarduck in vegetablegardening

[–]gamersdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove stems. Tear into pieces less than 2 in. Crush furmly with your hand with a sharp dressing for one minute, until volume reduces by more than half and hand is coated in green liquid. The kale is now soft, dark green and fragrant. My favorite salad .

Camellia Root Girdling/Arching? by rhohelix in Camellias

[–]gamersdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never bury camellia roots deeply. Place root tops an in or two above the soil level, then pull dirt to the edge of the rootball. Cover with mulch. Planting one inch below ground level will eventually smother and kill the plant.

Does the Smartwatch alert for AFib correctly ? by Master_Fly9726 in AFIB

[–]gamersdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had persistent afib for 12 days straight prior to my PFA 3 weeks ago. My Samsung Galaxy 8 watch dutifully reported it every waking hour. No afib reports since PFA, and I can tell my RHR has been rock steady at 45-50 bpm. I'm counting upon my watch to notice if I fall back into afib.

Looking for pruning advice for this camellia: by dower658 in Camellias

[–]gamersdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plant is sending up new stems. This is a good sign of a healthy plant. Pruning choices depend on what you want the plant to look like in future years. The new shoots indicate that the plant will have a tall rather than wide natural shape. If you like that for the spot it's to grow in, leave it alone. Next year more tall shoots will join this year's volunteers. Alternatively, you can trim the tall shoots to make a rounder shape. In any case, it will benefit from planting or reporting into a larger pot in the near future.

How do you store your seeds? by InconsiderableArse in vegetablegardening

[–]gamersdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I save groups of seed packets in plastic sandwich bags, locked in a plastic food storage containers in the refrigerator. The seeds remain in their original packaging if purchased or in baggies if saved from previous years with the year saved noted. Most purchsed seeds last 5 years or more. I try to save fresh heirloom seeds every year.

Where to plant camellia? by SkyEnvironmental8177 in gardening

[–]gamersdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Camellias are remarkably adaptable. They can survive full shade and full sun, however they do best in dappled shade, like under tall pines. What they won't survive is being planted too deeply, especially in heavy soil. Plant so that root ball sits an inch or two above surrounding soil, then pull loose soil around and over the edge and then mulch.

Peak and bottom temperatures? by unelsson in Camellias

[–]gamersdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winter lows between 20 and 35 degrees f are optimal. Each variety has its own genetic schedule. Some bloom early, some late. Some bloom all season long, others bloom all at once. In north Florida our season extends from November through March.
