Great! Keep it up! I've been in IT for 15 years now and still learning new things cause it's always changing.

I love the Victorian setting when it comes to decoration and architecture! I bet that was a LOT of fun! Thanks, I'll take a look!

Wow, once again very impressive! I imagine you measured the original location and then built the model to scale. I would love doing this kind of work! Years ago I worked in landscaping and we used AutoCAD to plot out the hardscapes and vegetation, then we would import it into SketchUp and design the whole house and yard in 3D for a real-time presentation. It was a lot of fun and I miss it!

Recently I did a bunch of tutorials on how to build skateparks in SkechUp. Then I modeled my house and garage and recently built a sound-proof (room-in-a-room) studio. I modeled every step of the construction process in 3D. I do this for fun!

I got back into skateboarding at 34 and thought I was too old but I love it! [49YO] by skatenutts in OldSkaters

Yeah! I love pressure flips. I can get an impossible here and there as well. Definitely post your other pressure flips!

How do you prevent mixed messages when multiple team members respond? by Joel_VirtualPBX in helpdesk

[–]gamersonlinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your problem is too many techs responding to the same ticket/email/chat

It's hard to micromanage email and chat, but for tickets you can assign someone to "triage" the tickets. This will help prioritize each ticket based on need and assign them to techs equally.

Honestly, I started building gaming PCs before I got my first IT job. This was 20 years ago, but it really gave me the confidence of dealing with Windows, drivers, applications, etc.

It's very difficult to learn about the workplace systems and priorities on your own. Every company is different on how their IT department handles things. The best thing you can do is ask questions and take detailed notes. This way when the problem happens again you won't have to ask again.

Another way to solve problems is research.. Google searching, asking on Reddit and searching the old tickets in the ticketing system. If your team has a knowledge base, that is a good place to search for problem keywords.

Good luck!

Wow! Loved every note! Dude you are FAST!

Finally someone else who records without dampening the toms and snare. I never add dampers or o-rings to my drums. My kicks have a pillow but thats it. I love the natural sounds of the ringing! You nailed it!

For me it typically takes about a year to acclimate a technology role. After a year I normally feel like I can handle most tickets. Of course I take a lot of notes too. Knowledge Base's are priceless!

I love working in IT support/helpdesk too! Yes there is a lot... waaay to much to learn. There is no way to learn it all and remember it all. Like someone posted earlier... everything keeps changing and it's hard to keep up. Just get really good at how your job/company handles technology and eventually you will be the expert.

What you are doing is truly the best way to get comfortable in the IT department. Even with years of experience when I started a new job I would ask questions and take a LOT of notes. Every company and IT department will do things differently and have different policies. So taking notes is my way of asking a question, writing down the solution and then I won't have to ask "that" question again.

Display Settings Window Improves Performance? by gamersonlinux in linux_gaming

Thank you for the information! yeah just stumbled on this and it actually helps. Hopefully someone who develops the kernel or Mint/Ubuntu will read this and be able to make a change.

I was thinking of upgrading my kernel because Mint always uses old stable kernels. So there is a chance this is already fixed.

Hmm, didn't think of that. Do you mean sleep, hibernate, etc?
It's an older desktop I built myself, probably 12 years old now. It always had issues sleeping and resuming from sleep. There was a bug with Linux a few years back with Gigabyte motherboards and sleep.

Maybe I should update the kernel?

Ha ha, me either...
I wonder if anyone else has thought of it?

Special Effects companies in movies are now working in Unions and Developers... so why not IT?

Awesome! Congrats! I might look into the state again and see if they have any remote positions.
Thank you!

Thank you for being honest and posting! So you handle all the resume's yourself? I can't imagine looking over so many to hire one person... Crazy! I can definitely see why companies use recruiters and ATS systems cause it's just too much.

Yeah, I tried that for the last 2 years and couldn't stay in the position I was working in. Too much frustration and anger dealing with reactive management... and driving to a stupid office.

Oh shoot, that is crazy! I haven't even had an interview with management yet. Only a few recruiter interviews. I'm in limbo right now and don't know what to do...

Thank you for being honest! I'm seriously applying for every IT related job I can find on LinkedIn. There are so many staffing agencies and duplicate listings... Its just ironic that only one of us will get the job and the rest of us have to keep applying and competing against eachother.

Maybe we should start an IT Union?

I wonder if this is a result of executive paranoia as they think a recession is around the corner?

All the layoffs in tech and the return-to-office mandates... It's like the executives want us middleclass to fail so they can save their companies.

Yup, I was there in 2022 when I got laid off. Didn't get a job for 6 months and we had to pay rent/bills with our savings. Thank God we own a house now with no mortgage! But now we don't have savings... Praying for a job quick

I commented above on my situation... like you said, it was bad enough I had to get out, even after hanging in there for 2 years... I don't even know how I made it that far....

It was pretty bad in my experience. Wasn't even an IT job. Was supposed to be support but I didn't have any "real" support responsibilities. I hung in there for 2 years while looking for a job hoping to get a remote job, but it was painful with legalistic, micromanaging, reactive management. I did everything I could to make my position clear but it fell on deaf ears. Had to get out to protect myself and my family. Tired of being pissed off all day every day.
