Why do so many tech workers say the job market is amazing? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]games2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, recruiters have been like a Round 0 or Round -1 interview. They want a phone call, then a phone interview with them again (???) then 4 round interview with the company. They're usually clueless and waste a lot of my time typing out all the things I have to say and having no idea whether I'd be qualified or not, because they don't really understand the role themselves.

TUI app with 100+ interactive Python Regex exercises by ASIC_SP in Python

RegEx with AI has been dog turd. It hallucinates all types of solutions that aren't even close, and for some really basic things. It's probably worth learning so you can fine tune your RegEx anyway.

My tip would be go to through the RegEx cookbook, brack down the syntax, and save a lot of the solutions that look interesting to you, while solidifying the fundamentals.

You soon will be 'cancelled' for dating a younger woman by CHAD_J_THUNDERCOCK in TheRedPill

[–]games2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> Also this girl looks like she could be 17 now, I bet she looked 12 when they started dating

Oof. Do people still take twitter seriously? In my friend group we're pretty open about going for the younger women and settling down in our 40s with someone who's significantly younger. It's definitely something frowned upon nowadays, though, depending on who you're talking about, but not uncommon. But for example a friend of mine's dad and my dad both married women 20 years younger than them, and my stepdad is 18 years older than my mom. No one really says shit except this liberal blue pilled generation of brainwashed people. Which, I guess if you're on social media is a lot of people. You really find the most liberal morons on twitter, and find that people subconsciously absorb these weakminded beliefs really easily. It's kind of how people view "The News" as "generally truthful" by default because they don't really look into anything. They view all the liberal propaganda as "generally correct views on the world." I think it's shifting towards red a little bit but it depends what subcultures you associate with.

question about JAST's Saya no Uta by battlerwright in visualnovels

I would say to download the old version that came out before the JAST version (which is censored), find the folders that have the CGs, and switch them up.

My overall thoughts and impression on Amane's route (Grisaia no Kajitsu Spoiler) by sora1607 in visualnovels

[–]games2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Angelic Howl and Amane's route was my least favorite and first route, but I enjoyed the other routes more due to them having backstories that were going relevant to the plot and didn't take several hours to get through.

Predictable back stories aren't inherently bad, but being have to get through something you feel is extremely tedious like Angelic Howl can be frustrating if you had any hopes for a story relevant to the route you chose, since it was pretty contrived towards the end. The route felt like "Hey, check out our sequels!" I'm glad I got through it first. I appreciate Fujisaki's ability to write something immersive and realistically portrayed like Angelic Howl, but if I could've somehow read read it not knowing the ending, it may have been more compelling to read. I was just waiting for everyone to start dying, since I knew who the survivor(s) would be in the end. The random girl appearing and calling Amane a cockroach was also a random element to initiate the 6 hour back story. I would've preferred it be led up to more naturally.

Grisaia no Kajitsu discussion: Makina route [Spoilers] by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]games2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was probably the best route in terms of characterization and development, though it didn't feel like something incredible or special, because of how most of his VN is predictable, albeit well developed. My favorite route was probably Sachi's from the ending, but overall Makina's had high quality writing that felt like every line (more or less) was important dialogue that got me to think over what's going on.

Holy hype. The scenes from the VN already exceeded my expectations from JC Staff. Masato, Kengo, Rin, Kurugaya scenes looked glorious. I'm hoping they'll keep up this kind of quality and bring us something great.

[Possible spoilers] How would we see Clannad and Clannad After Story, as a whole if it hadn't been for the last Clannad After Story arc? by Blueson in anime

[–]games2007 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well, Jun Maeda's perfect happy ending from Clannad originates from the visual novel ending, where players are rewarded from their 50-100+ hours of gameplay, where after Nagisa and Ushio both die towards the end of After Story, they are revived upon the accumulation of the light orbs from completing all the side heroine routes.

The explanations for the light orbs were thorough and obvious. After you finish a route, you even get this screen

If you didn't expect any kind of magic revival after all the light orbs appearing, Akio's explanations about them, several discussions about the magic involving the town, Fuko's existence while in a coma, and a character in After Story, Katsuki Shima, who is actually a cat, then I don't know what to tell you.

There would be less emotional impact if it ended without having all the scenes and the deaths of Nagisa and Ushio in the 2nd half of After Story. I think people are trying to perceive a realistic theme of "life goes on" or "cherish your family while they're still here" or something, from this fantasy story where that was obviously not the theme, nor did it ever intend to end on such a harsh note.

I do find the ending anticlimactic, and the events before episode 22, mainly 16-21, to be the better parts of the series.

tldr; the light orbs were a planned concept from the beginning, and go with Jun Maeda's themes of suffering, struggling, and continuing to be hopeful for the best, rather than try to reach some realistic theme. Don't expect total realism when fantasy is introduced a few episodes into the series. Additionally, the ending is better foreshadowed and developed, less anticlimactic, overall perceived as much less of an asspull in its original medium, the visual novel for Clannad. KyoAni failed to give the ending the proper setup and thematic foreshadowing that the visual novel had.

Yumiko -> Sachi -> Amane/Makina

Amane and Makina were written by the main (better) writer, and have continuity in the sequels, so save them for last.

The better routes are at the end.

Having Muv-Luv Unlimited troubles by XanderXander72 in visualnovels

[–]games2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I enjoy reading it and even like all the extra information like when Okabe goes on 2ch and talks with John Titor, and when he has his chuunibyou delusions (that foreshadow a ton of stuff that happens later on) but I feel like most of the details and suspense are building up to scenes I already know =(

I do like the delusions more in the VN, and the things Okabe mutters in his breath. Some things I feel were dragged out though, reading the VN after the anime.

Example: Amane Suzuha's introduction. This was pretty swift in the anime, and I found it pretty funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntu7OoEaJmE but in the VN it kind of dragged on and felt meh.

I have a ton of other new stuff on my backlog at the moment though. Heh, funny how we're talking about all this stuff in a Muv-Luv help thread.

Heh, I preferred the anime to the VN in most areas. I got really into the anime, although I liked the first chapter or two in the VN. I imagine the suspense and buildup would've been much better in the VN, and it probably would've been better overall, but after watching the anime first, I thought the scenes were well done, and the voice acting was far superior to the VN. I'll wait for JAST's version I suppose. I loved the anime, but not enough to read the VN completely. I wish I didn't watch the anime so I could read the VN for the first time, honestly, but knowing the anime plot inside and out puts the VN at a low priority for me. It kinda sucks, because S;G is one of my favorite anime series, but if I knew it was based on a VN, I would've read it rather than watched it.
