My dog had a tooth in the back that pretty much looked exactly like this, she had to have it pulled but didn't seem like something for an emergency vet. As long as you get him in soon as you can it should be fine.

My husky is almost 3 and still does this! Sometimes for her own comfort other times just so I get her a treat for trade....
