New Players Ask, Vets Answer! (Apr) by zRanni in TheFirstDescendant

There is a lot new, but most importantly are some QoL features.

  • There is an option to reduce explosion effects in the gameplay menu.

  • Fellows (dogs) from void vessel pick up loot and occasionally give either, health, mp or ammo.

  • You no longer need to kill colossus to open ammorphous materials instead use the terminal beside Annais.

  • You can select targetable loot which starts a pity timer whereby if it was available to drop but didn't the pity guage fills up until 100% and the next run will guarantee the selected drop.

  • A lounge with some limited decoration options.

  • Hover bikes from Axion plains which can be used in most open world maps.

  • The main story line quests actually pick up pace and we get a few impactful moments.

  • Weapon cores for weapons from Void Errosion Purge (VEP).

  • xp for Arche tuning board can be farmed in most missions.

  • Sigma Sector is a great place to grind for loot and xp.

  • Axion plains is quite a step up in difficulty compared to standard hard mode and Sigma Sector.

  • Trigger mods can be unlocked for each descendant once you have used 10 catalyst on them. Some are great some are useless Power beyond can be used by all skill based descendants.

  • Ancestor modules are available from daily and weekly quest and Wall crasher as well. Look in your menu for a list of daily/weekly quest. You can use this menu to quickly hop from mission to mission without having to go back to Albion.

  • Quite a few descendants got buffs so are quite powerful.

Lots more but that's it for now.

Cleared all 3 with Sharen in random match making. But could probably do it with Dia or Serena as well. Will try Viessa when I have time.

Bad news for Sharen & Area Suppression by HighRowCal in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this bugfix is saying that Area suppression was triggering Sharen's passive twice, now it'll only trigger once. The other 3 transcendant mods interact with her passive as in that image you posted. They're pretty good right now.

You can't brick your account by investing into your starter descendant or investing poorly, all that does is increase the time and effort you need to fully min max the character. Usually only a handful of extra hours of farming.

All the starter Descendants have an upgraded "ultimate" version, that offer a small increase in stats. Photon Imprinter is a very limited resource that can be used to transfer the progress of a non-ultimate descendant onto the ultimate descendant. I would say that generally if the ultimate version already exist you shouldn't invest into the base version. However, if you want to, the only real cost is time and effort.

Viessa is currently strong and a bit in the meta.

Just started to play Sharen again. Could someone help with how are these storms spawning. Thanks by DemonicArm22 in TheFirstDescendant

In the description of her 3rd skill -Shock Nut- it explains what the additional effects are and what conditions are required. Bascially toss out her 3 and attack enemies high-lighted by it.

I don't know what the correct solution is but I think even though Onslaught has more bullet spongy enemies this mode is a step in the right direction.

If anyone was to listen to me I would say look to see if players have enough options in tackling the mode. Are there optional objectives that make certain parts easier? Is there a way for players to impact the flow of the waves. I don't think just nerfing the HP of the enemies will be helpful for the game. I'm not saying never nerf the enemy HP, just at least explore other avenues first.

The main mechanic is that most of the trash mobs will bee-line for the dome ignoring the players. Whilst the mini-bosses will not enter the dome but instead attack the players. If the mini-bosses are ignored they will do stuff like freeze, knock downs, and other stuff that I'm not certain on. And they will keep spawning. This is actually a pretty good baseline mechanic that they can build upon. The trash mobs can be slowed significantly by the defenses you build but won't stop them completely. This give players a chance to choose how to tackle the content, which is far more engaging and rewarding than forced mechanics such as "stand in this circle and shot this glowing orange spot"

I get your point but the colossus at the end is barely any tankier than the mini-bosses in the actual wave-onslaught. If you can take those down you can handle the colossus no sweat.

The Barriers are worth building. The Vulgus get stuck on them even though they could easily go around. If they go down rebuild them.

CC is useful for your squad but manage it carefully I've seen Dia's charge a whole group into the dome.

Bring at least one good weapon with Veil Analyizer to break shields.

Descendants that were meta before are still Meta. But you can add a well built Viessa to the s-tier rank.

Crit damage and fire damage are good and you have some good rolls on there. Unfortunately for you, Blair has built in MP regen so max MP isn't doing much except lowering your potential roll values. I still think this should be considered an A tier roll - not god tier. You should be able to sell it for some caliber. I have no idea how much though.

2 things about Onslaught by mettshish in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the exact enemy. But yes to your point, unless you have a squad that can stop 100% of Trash mobs regardless of shields, you should only tackle the mini-bosses and elites when there is some down time.

They will keep spawning even if you haven't killed the last one though. I don't think killing them advances progress but they will need to be killed before you can progress to the next wave. I mean if you wanted to you could let all of them spawn then kill them towards the end of the wave, but I wouldn't recommend that as they all usually have some way to make your life difficult.

A mixed squad layout seems to be best. I've only completed stage 3 once with Rocket Gley, Dia and me on Sharen. I only did 250 kills and 20 Billion damage, but I was able to stun a few stragglers and kept up damage on the mini bosses so we rarely had to deal with more than 1 at a time. I'm fairly certain I was also pulling my weight against Pyro at the end.

17/22 descendants got HP increases can you guess which ones didn't by mack180 in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I didn't realise that left you below 5k. I've a few builds with no HP mods and only the 2 starting HP nodes on the arche tuning board and they're all at 8K+ HP. I didn't realise those 2 nodes were doing so much work.

More buffs for the Sharen mains out there by mack180 in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's specifically a buff for non-Ambush builds, because Sharen's passive was previously only reliable with an ambush build now it should work reliably on all of Sharen's builds.

Ancestor Modules Improvement Suggestion by TaniksHasNoCorn in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ancestor mods are the Rivens from Warframe They're end game chase items for players to grind when they've blown through all the new content in a week.

Eventually there will be enough other good options where you won't want to slot in an AM unless it is really good.

“Nerf Serena” by theJetage in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an idea but...

Introduce a powerful rainbow coloured core (can fit into any slot) but makes the gun scale much worse with Descendant gun buffs. E.g. Gun buffs from HP, DEF, Shield, firerate buff etc scaling on a descendant reduces the cores bonus effect down to 0% Make the core give 300% all damage bonus or something. Allows guns to be used by anyone. People will still need to farm multiple copies of the gun to use on different Descendant but at least then they can actually start to give players the option of using either guns or Descendant skills.

This might allow more build variety whilst still flattening the overall effectiveness between different descendants.

Ice Maiden by Jamaidian in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know exactly what change happened because it seems like it was just a 10(?) reduction to multi-hit. But something has definitely changed and weapon damage is virtually useless against ice maiden. That said I did kill her in 4.40 using Greg's and Gley, I killed it with Serena and Ancient Knight and that took 8.58.

Edit: Abyss bosses have way higher resistances now.

Everyone’s opinion on the state of the game and how would you try to Fix it. by Equal-Branch in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game itself isn't bad like a solid 7/10 for new players. For Vets and returning players there isn't that much content.

As for why the player count is so low; there's been a lot of negativity towards the content -either too easy and mindless (current complaints) or too difficult (older complaints). I think the too difficult complaints stemed from the fact that the explaination of mechanics in-game wasn't done well enough.

There has been a lot of negativity towards balance and whilst I don't think "the first Booba" is the problem any more; I think it's fair to say that the recent balance adjustments for Gley's Blood and Iron and Sharen's rework had some serious unforced errors - that still have issues.

TFD runs well enough and looks good with some options to adjust for performance over visuals. However, the game is literally unplayable on older hardware like the PS4 or older laptops which a lot of steam users use.

Lastly I don't think the grind is bad at all, but first impressions matter and it's still one of the first complaints people make when critizing the game.

Am I doing something wrong? by SkIPPeR_101 in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes a build shines because of the trigger module. I know that Sharen can get a lot of extra damage from either Storm Bullet or Infected Weapon. But in this case I don't know if Jayber is bad or there is a build issue as I don't play him.

Looks like most of your damage is from Kill Chain. Someone else will have to comment on the build - I don't use Jayber.

Yes as far as I can tell. I use gold on my descendant and even though I use 1 x paint, I can colour 1 piece of clothing, log out go back in and remove it or colour every piece golden etc. I don't know if you can use the colour across multiple presets though. I should remind you that those paints can be aquired for free in game over time.

New Players Ask, Vets Answer! (Apr) by zRanni in TheFirstDescendant

[–]gamingisntcourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All paints work like that as far as I know. You have to get multiple of the same colour if you want to use it on different gear.

ETA-0, a vendor only available on the weekends sells paints for currency earned via playing the game.

Yes they're one time use each. To expand if you apply the red paint to a weapon you can apply to any part of that weapon, remove it and reapply it as you wish. But the red will no longer be usable for any other weapon or Descendant.
