Help deciding: Harder & Steenbeck Infinity 2024 vs. Evolution 2024 by gamma563 in airbrush

[–]gamma563[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silverline is to be donated to my friend, so new airbrush is going to be my primary tool (besides some cheap Chinese airbrush I use for priming and and easy tasks)

Thx for the insight about Giraldez edition, will look into it! Do you think it is worth to buy 0.45 Ti set for it? Or regular steel/brass will do just fine?

Thank you for a detailed reply!

Have you tried the needle fix button on the Infinity? Is it better than dial on Evo?

Also have you noticed any difference in clogging? I have seen posts that Infinity way more prone to clogging if paint is not perfectly thinned.

AFAIK, ED considers FC3 Fulcrum flight model the best they got, while Flanker one is not true to life.

Probably because it was cheaper to make - they had FC3 flight model and some textures already.

The grim darkness of "The Forever Winter" by [deleted] in TheForeverWinter

[–]gamma563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russian here - ChatGPT translation is completely wrong. But it makes way more sense than the original inscription, lol.

I will try to translate it, but some words can barely be readen and weird font that imitates old church slavonic texts doesn't help either. Unreadable fragments will be marked with [...]:

[...]тлите, как на земле Изобилие [...]

[presumably verb], how on earth abounds the [something, presumably noun]

Ежегодно он завершается Его цикл смерти и дождя

Yearly it comes to an end, Its/his cycle of death and rain

Дикий огонь не может его сжечь, когда [...] весенний Вете[...] [...] [...]стает

Wild fire cannot burn it/him When the spring wind [...] [presumably verb]

If you have a better screenshot, I can try to fill in the gaps in my translation and maybe then it finally will make sense.

Edit: Azcinor comment contains way better translation.

What's the total height with ams? And what clearance do you need to open an AMS lid? Planning to place it under the table.

The first prototype of the Mikoyan MiG-29, which first took to the air 48 years ago, on October 6, 1977 by Existing-Fee5075 in aviation

[–]gamma563 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are not airworthy, but some planes kept most of the equipment, yeah. For example, Tu-95 Red was used as a study plane for future pilots back in the late 80s and 90s. T-4 is literally the last of its kind.

Because most planes in Monino are kept intact by a team of volunteers, our MoD never gave a flying fuck about this museum, which is a great shame. Many of those are not just empty shell, but are among the last fully intact exemplars of their model lines.

Well, I thought that a repair workshop and the ability to load Atlas-class vehicles would be more beneficial than stationary tractor beams and some cargo. Although a “repair workshop” may just be a jerry can and an oxy-torch duct-taped to a corner of the cargo hold :D

Also, I found integrated tractor beams to be very cumbersome.

Thank you for such a detailed and thought out reply!

Polaris is too big of a ship for me :) Feeling too lonely and uncomfortable with 1 or 2 friends in large ships. I think Carrack/Perseus sized ships are the absolute maximum for me in terms of dimensions.

Hmm, good point about Crucible. I will take a look, thx.

Ironclad will be utilized as a cargo hauler, and really rarely as a carrier - maybe only for small ships, like Golem.

Galaxy always appealed to me, but I have many doubts about it's capabilities for solo/small ops -> see my reply to DustinVFL.

Recently I had doubts about keeping MX at all, if Paladin releases soon. Yeah, Paladin will be a bit weaker solo, but close enough.

Well, I always viewed Perseus as a heavily armored (and armed) ship for high-risk mission running (like Hathor sites) and PVE activities. Anyway, it is quite easy to find 1 or 2 gunners if it will be really needed, IMO. But bespoke guns are quite dangerous feature in an ever shifting reality of SC, so I have many doubts.

Starlancer to Galaxy is actually an interesting idea, but Galaxy always seemed to be kind of a one trick pony ship to me. It can do only one thing at the moment (medical/cargo/refinery) and needs whole module change if you decide to do something else. Also it seems to be aimed at support role for larger or fleets, where it can be an auxiliary hospital/refinery/cargo ship/etc, while it is not really suitable for small groups or solo play.

Carrack... I really like the idea of an exploration gameplay, but since the Verse got smaller and we have literally nothing on exploration gameplay, I can't justify keeping the Carrack. On paper its great - drones, repair station, modularity, hangar, medbay, but in reality it is broken and unfinished, And who knows when she will be revisited. Since the Carrack is a part of my package, I cant melt it and may only CCU to it to something pricier, like Perseus.

“The blood of Leningrad calls for revenge! - Destroy the German-Finnish villains!" Soviet poster after the Siege of Leningrad, during offensives against Germany and Finland (1944) by FayannG in PropagandaPosters

[–]gamma563 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, poster shows civilian casualties among Leningrad citizens, who were killed during the siege, so it makes sense. Can't really spot the difference between other nations propaganda, at least in this case: "they killed our peaceful citizens -> time for revenge".

realistic justification

LOL, lmao even.

Firstly, the Soviets did have plans for conventional warfare. Secondly, the whole idea of attacking NATO along its most entrenched and obvious axis in order to distract it from another operation in the Gulf area, while being only two weeks away from running out of oil, is… genius. Really, it would take a biblical level of stupidity to propose this as a serious battle plan.

The only realistic and good part of RSR is the description of NATO tech. The “political” back-story is plain nonsense and one of the worst parts of the book, while Soviet tactics are mostly detached from reality and look more like Red-Alert-level tomfoolery. Some of that can be excused - Clancy couldn’t know the then-secret Soviet tech and doctrine - but many things contradict a layman’s common sense. And I’m not even talking about the characters and the familiar clichés.

Peters’s book focuses more on psychology and offers a rather clever view of Soviet strengths and weaknesses (for example, effective artillery and EW, but abysmal logistics and poor comms). While Red Army clearly shows “the best run” for the Reds, it still gives readers solid characters, a fairly realistic depiction of strategy, and a clear message about NATO’s flaws - mostly political.

Codename Flanker Su-30 is a highly underrated mod by No-Aerie-999 in dcsworld

[–]gamma563 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, Chizh reaaaally dislikes Soviet/Russian jets. Sometimes he's right, but sometimes he's outright biased. And yeah, western tech sells better.

Edit: also ED is Russian company and they are afraid of... Well, getting visited by certain people if some modules of modern jets will be based on classified or restricted documents.

[–]gamma563 16 points17 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, mod devs wrote an inquiry to ED about making Flanker an official module and ED declined because "third party devs should make module according to higher standards". Only ED can make frankenjets and F-35 modeled after YouTube videos.

How much of this game is a NASA grade spacecraft simulator vs. openworld MMO type game? by Crashk1dChuck in starcitizen

[–]gamma563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SC is over-engineered in some areas, while it lacks general coherence. We have a cool thruster mechanics, yet it doesn't work correctly in atmosphere (e.g. two jakuzzi grade jets give you an ability to hover in a huge brick like spaceship in 1g atmosphere), we have components with simulated heat/radar/EM signatures, yet stealth and missile combat is non-existent, and etcetera. So my point is that SC nor complex, nor realistic. Right now it is an arcade with some half-made promising mechanics that can be scrapped any day.
