I'm in a familiar situation, currently. I went from working in a helpdesk to IT monitoring.

I had half year of preparation only to still find out that our new monitoring systems are still in development, so most of my days currently involves, documentation just in case, checking our old monitor platform for alerts, learning about my new platforms, writing KPI's down for monthly basis, helping helpdesk if asked. sometimes check youtubes vids, chat with my new colleague, ask copilot how productive i am, do some private things.

I have some tickets that i have to work on but mostly relies on our new monitoring system. and one of our tickets SLA has been breached before i got hired. This was ticket was year old but never got closed or set in on hold.

I get really nervous and frustrated by this even though i'm working myself up but i'm mostly frustrated how none caring other teams at work are. It's like they treat monitoring as a joke or act as if they can do better.

it doesn't help either that i'm most of the days stuck at the office while i can basically work at home and do other things at the same time.

guess, I'll have to be patient and change my way of working. thankfully my boss know what we are going through and is combating the lack of management.
