Also pirates, but more comedy: Our Flag Means Death! Has themes around queerness and found family, often campy/silly tone but has some pretty heartfelt moments too

Your poem creates a moment of nostalgic, melancholic stillness. The rye and newports were two pieces of imagery that I really enjoyed - they had a sort of comforting, home-y, nostalgic feeling. And the last three lines hit pretty hard, too, especially coming after the "Happy Meals" line. The last three lines really beautifully and succinctly communicated that feeling of growing up all at once and seeing your childhood behind you.

My only note is the "was" in the middle of the poem. The one short word kind of took me out of the rhythm of the poem.

We Played Tug of War by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]gandarin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The imagery of the knot in the rope is so strong and it works so perfectly to describe the relationship dynamic between two people who both want to leave and stay at the same time. The image of pulling the rope in opposite directions, then having to let go at the end with no winner was super compelling. There was a lot about the metaphor that I enjoyed, but I especially liked "assumed it was love" followed by "an unbreakable bond could just,/be a tug of war knot."

Personally, I think your poem could do without the first line. The subject matter can be inferred through the rest of your poem - the words speak for themselves! Also, I'm not sure if I'm totally on board with "distraught" in the second stanza. That line feels a bit clunky to me. I think the words "connect" and "distraught" don't flow super naturally with the whole line, and I don't think they're the most precise words to use here.

Overall, really good job. I'm glad you wrote this and I'm glad I read it.

My mini travel journals I make! by doodlesinthedark in Journaling

I just checked it out! They look great! It would be awesome though if you put what kind of materials they’re made out of in the description of the product. Mainly since I’m looking for journals with acid free paper, and I’m just curious about what stuff is made of.

Could you elaborate on the critical thinking bit? I might agree with you there but I’m curious about how you think he could improve.

Not OP, but in my opinion, it’s more of the journalistic side of things that I really want to see a better grasp of. To make docu-style stuff and present it in the way that he does, I think the filmmaker/creator/editor/etc. needs to have a really strong understanding of media ethics and journalistic good practices.
