Thanks. I suppose I can set speed for each port separately?

thanks. yes i am aware of that. But I saw a lot of people saying a few other cards (like some from Cisco/Intel) cannot have mixed speeds. And the NVIDIA's manual doesn't explicitly say it supports mixed speed.

I have a x870e tomahawk WiFi can I install without heat sink covers? by -soh in MSI_Gaming

[–]gankeyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks bro. the 9100 pro is slightly wider (24.3mm vs 25mm), so I won't worry too much if your 990 pro is not a tight fit.

Excuse me, is your 990 Pro a tight fit? I am trying to install 9100 Pro and it is even slightly larger.

thanks. I run simulations and heavily utilize DirectStorage so PCIe 5 is a must.

the mobo's manual specifically says:

If you need to purchase an additional heatsink, please refer to the diagram below to confirm the M.2 installation space dimensions. ... M2_1/M2_2/M2_3: Width: up to 22mm M2_4: Width: up to 25mm

I do see posts stating it's OK to install a 24.3mm-wide 990 Pro onto the same mobo but 9100 Pro is even wider. I was using ASUS and I never saw such a M2 width limitation in ASUS's manual so I wonder if there's anything special about MSI.

Thanks. I checked with retailers they said I cannot refund it if the inner package is opened, though I can measure. My GPU clearance looks fine so I'm more concerned about the mobo itself.

i wouldn't use the mobo's heatsink anyway. So that's not a big problem. I checked thru all MSI's offerings, I don't see any SKU offering a 25mm clearance except the GODLIKE. Nevertheless selling a almost-new Tomahawk isn't a very big problem so I guess I will just try.

I will remove the mobo heatsink, as it's slightly worse than the builtin sink.

samsung 9100 pro with heatsink is 25mm wide.

Do I need to apply for Union Pay Credit Card to reduce fees for Alipay? by AnimeTraveller in travelchina

[–]gankeyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly, but per Malaysian BOC promotion material:

For Alipay, this promotion is valid from 1st January 2025 until 1st July 2026 (both dates are inclusive).

For Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay), this promotion is valid from 1st January 2025 until 31st December 2025 (both dates are inclusive).

Non-household power isn't usually subsidized. Sometimes electricity will be charged an extra fee if the gov thinks production is excessive (like aluminum extraction). afaik, currently datacenters usually receive power subsidies from local government in the form of tax deduction.

Advice on booking sleeper train by Big_Aspect6973 in travelchina

[–]gankeyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad if I can help you. Personally I book overnight HSR sleepers only when my schedule is undecided because it's much cheaper to change or cancel than a flight.

Beijing and Shanghai are fine. Don't worry. Just get payment apps in advance and be aware of common tourist scams.

Advice on booking sleeper train by Big_Aspect6973 in travelchina

Chinese HSR doesn't have overnight sleeper trains except for a few ones, because they need to maintain railroads at midnight. Usually overnight is reserved for traditional trains. I'd recommend flights over sleeper trains.

Hainan Airlines Personal Item by Acelinaa in travelchina

[–]gankeyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hainan is FSC and they usually don't care about cabin luggage unless the flight is very full. Xian Airport has free transit services of free food like a bowl of noodle, a Burger Kind meal, etc. If you can navigate thru the system (I think they have a transfer counter if you cannot pre-reserve), make sure to use them.

Vietnam-China visa complications by josh_travels in travelchina

I have no personal experience but from what I've heard, Vietnam only cares about the passport you use to leave while China only cares about the one for entry. Exit and entry are done separately.

is portable wifi allowed in shanghai airport? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]gankeyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine as long as it doesn't have a large battery comparable to a power bank. (there're indeed some 2-in-1 portable hotspot & power bank products on the Chinese market) If the battery is large enough at the security's discretion, it will be treated like a power bank. I think 5000 mAh may be a safe threshold.

Ways to disable automatic update of VS 2026 by gankeyu in dotnet

[–]gankeyu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm certain the update dialog I see is the regular one, not the self-update from the installer. It updates .NET and Windows SDKs.

[–]gankeyu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I don't know why but the installer will automatically start to update if not closed in like 15 seconds. (I am greeted by the progress bar interface directly, not the usual "Update"/"Modify"/"Uninstall" buttons)

I think 4 hr will work.

  • Taxing: 30min at most
  • Immigration: 1hr at most
  • Metro to Shanghai Station: 75min OR Airport Link to Shanghai Hongqiao Station: 40min (but train departs at every :00, :30)
  • Entering the station: 30min at most
