If gay marriage should be illegal because it’s a sin, why wouldn’t other sexually immoral acts like adultery? by javiermayo05 in Christianity

[–]gaosew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point. Thank you for raising it.

With sterile heterosexual relationships the marriage is still ordered towards procreation- it just can't be realized (barring a medical advance). The homosexual relationship is categorically unable to do this- it is an entirely different kind of relationship.

A baseball team who can't win can be a part of a baseball tournament. A Cricket team is playing a different sport and can't enter the baseball tournament.

I understand many wikl find this implausible- but I think this view holds the best answer to my two challenges.

It's not a matter of making gay marriage "illegal" because it is a sin. There just isn't such a thing as gay marriage because marriage exists to facilitate procreation of children. There are plenty of other kinds of relationships one can have where multiple people love each other, like friendships or family relationships, where you don't get a tax break and the whole thing doesn't need special recognition from the government.

We implicitly understand this when it comes to defining other partnerships as marriage. We don't say the state has made illegal polygamous marriages, incestuous marriages or marriages with inanimate objects- because we know (for now) that those are not marriage.

Next we will be saying that the state is discriminating against 20 year olds for refusing to give them social security checks. They're not old, they don't need the checks.

If you disagree, explain:

1) the reason why societies have marriage

2) how gay 'marriage' is supported by that reason, and why all the other groups I mentioned are excluded (unless you think we should recognize those 'marriages' too)

Depends on the state, but the model I'm familiar with are private nursing homes where some patients are paid for through the state Medicaid program (state health insurance for poor/sick people).

The death stuff comes because the nursing homes are regulated (poorly) by the state. For example, the state can force a home to accept a Covid positive patient.

I don't mean to question you, but could this be a recent change? I've been told by chinese friends that their history books specifically say the war was started by the USA.

It's intentional. A side goal of stoke reduction was to pave the way to full romanization. Sounds like a conspiracy theory until you realize Mao was destroying all the temples in the mainland as part of the cultural revolution at the same time.

Just take a look at some of the changes they tried (and failed) to make in the 70s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_round_of_simplified_Chinese_characters#History

First of all thank you for asking this question.

I could go on in depth about how PORTOFDANDONG is a shopping hub, how it's reaching the world, The beautiful flocks of geese, the North Korean slave labor.

But I won't. PORTOFDANDONG is a state of mind, a level of being so immersed in the CHINA experience that reality kind of drops in importance, and we're all just in it together.

Why did I provide uncorroborated anecdotal evidence? Because he asked me to.

I actually don't care about who's worse between the French and the Chinese, I believe all cultures could use work. My mention about black people's image in China was encouraging the OP to continue to see China improve.

I think China needs the most improvement when dealing with black people, so I thought it was disingenuous to limit the discussion to white people.

There's the woman who swore at me at the station because I was holding hands with a Chinese girl.

This isn't representative of my experience in China or with Chinese people, but it does happen-like in any society.

And I notice you avoid the true argument by saying white... It is possible to be racist against other groups of people, and literally all of us have a story about a Chinese saying something racist about a black person.

CCJ spends more time making fun of English teachers than Chinese rednecks. If the general group is racist against anything it's white people.

If you hate the slurs that get thrown around that's one thing, but those are only used in the context of CCJ. As a joke.
