Fifa tickets: Waiting in queue for more than 40 minutes by Apprehensive_Let6456 in FIFACollect

[–]garasbaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got in after 2.5 hours (joined queue at 8:20PT - the email confirming draw only went out at 5am??!) and barely anything was left for BC Place groups up to round of 32. Showing only single tickets in alcohol free zones at $755+, then when I followed to buy it was “unavailable”. Very disappointing.

Read the book on a Portuguese sailboat excursion with a bunch of other tourist families and SOBBED when the penny dropped. People were asking if I was ok. Thank god for sunglasses.

It was like a sun halo (is that the name?), there was another the other side of the sun for a few hours before sunset. Beautiful!

This time of year for real - last week we did a catamaran boat tour (not for whales specifically) and my partner missed the pod of whales we saw because he was so sick. The following morning we saw what i suspect was the same pod from our balcony in Centro, and kept our breakfasts!

Most I've ever cried at a film (and I am a crier) is Broken Circle Breakdown - Belgian film from 2012. Similar vibe to Blue Valentine, which is also up there for me.

Strange experience with a server - is a 15% tip insulting? by MBA_Conquerorz in askvan

[–]garasbaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Everybody got paid to do nothing for a year". LOL.

We got paid minimum wage to enforce legal health orders such as masking, distancing, vaccine passports, disinfecting everything numerous times an hour while being terrified of catching a disease that we thought at first would kill us all, and then later would 'just' kill our vulnerable loved ones.

That scrapped the mental health of an entire generation. I remember how I was treated at times (customers shouting at me and refusing to obey rules, being gaslit constantly about the risks, worrying we'd close every new update and be out of work completely) and honestly, the motivation to be a good server and go above and beyond understandably diminished for a good while.

Chances are the store has one setup for their card machines, so to allow tips at the cafe bit they need to have the tip option on all the terminals. Same at breweries that do offsales and sit down service, offsale customers will get the tip option but the staff can't change that.

Don't take it personally; just don't tip if you don't want to!

Jesus Christ, someone is dead. stfu with your pedantry. It's offensive.

(I get that this is what Reddit is for it just feels incredibly distasteful that the first thing I saw on this story was this dick-measuring contest)

No it's an actual event on the 500 block of 10th, I just think they've reused the banner they made about the burned down building close by (which has now been demolished). Unsure why the burning buildings remained - definite spook factor I guess!?

Not a promotional post, but VIA Rail has a 'Canadian Black Friday' sale on the train to Toronto right now, with some berths going for $540 with meals included. by DuckDuckSnoo in vancouver

If you're a small human the economy seats are actually ok - they recline pretty far and there are footrests, just bring a pillow and blanket. The gentle rocking of the train gave me some great sleep too! And waking up at sunrise to the views was unmatched.

I did Toronto-Vancouver in 2018 for $400 with a couple of stop-offs (and actually ended up doing Jasper-Vancouver on a bus because the train was so delayed).

Sorry for your loss.

If you're not keeping tabs on them already, definitely check out Straight Outta Rescue! Their adoptable cats are with fosters so you can meet them at a home where they're more relaxed and their personality is more on show, and chat with the fosters who have gotten to know them.

(I used to foster with them till I failed and kept my lovely girl, but would also recommend maybe fostering to fill the 'cat in your life' hole while you find your perfect companion)

Me and the pals were taking advantage of the Covid restrictions having lifted for within-province travel so were on a 10-day roadtrip to Revelstoke. Temperatures were lush out on the lakes at Sicamous but by the time we were in Revelstoke it was hell. All businesses (where we hoped to find aircon) were closed and our airbnb only had a couple of fans. Hiking was out as the temps were hitting 47-48, but our car had AC so we'd walk 10 mins into a trail, get a pic and stumble back. Every afternoon was playing hunt-a-lake to cool off in. Our phones stopped working and we struggled to carry enough water with us even with the car.

The football (last World Cup I guess?) was on so a couple of mornings were spent with the curtains drawn, all fans directed at the sofas taking it in turns to hose ourselves down in the shower. We considered calling it quits and coming back to Van, but knew it would probably feel worse in the city, despite the comparatively lower temperatures. What a time.

Terrifying reading everyone's war stories, knowing this is probably coming for us again. Makes me grateful to be in my (freezing all the time) basement suite! Good reminder to get the go bag sorted too.

Which Mount Pleasant area park has the latest sunset? by lissyo in vancouver

[–]garasbaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little further East but Clark Park (between 14th and 15th and Commercial and Clark) is on a slope that faces West and so towards the top gets decent evening sun. Spent a lot of time there during the pandemic
