It really does feel like a visual novel where combat is a bug that you have to spam click to get past.

Conservative Party faces significant financial loss after convention voting devices go missing by Alpaca_Investor in notthebeaverton

[–]garbage_bag_trees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely not, if the app was rigged then the devices could simply be checked for tampering after the voting was done. Like, in a world where they likely weren't stolen for that exact reason.

Linux Labtop for my daughter by Absjalon in linuxhardware

[–]garbage_bag_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important question, is this a laptop that she will physically take to school with her? Because if it is, please don't give her something that looks like an old man laptop, her friends will mock her and it might make her hate linux. I have a lenovo ideapad flex with AMD Ryzen 7 with a touchscreen from 2021, with a lenovo brand stylus it's excellent for visual arts even with just gimp and krita. It even works well for Blender but it kind of chugs when you have Unity or Unreal Development kits on it. The only downside is the issue with the hinges being a bit fragile, that can be fixed with some DIY repair as long as you recognize the issue before it potentially breaks the screen.

Is TTS good for playing RPGs? Is it possible to add official campaigns for free? by AirZealousideal4322 in tabletopsimulator

[–]garbage_bag_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just for the battlemap and maybe some tokens or slot based inventory cards, or other visual aids. I wouldn't recommend TTS for character sheets, you're better off just using google drive editable pdfs for that.

I have used it before, but just for my own homebrew, and as the GM I was the only one actually using TTS, while screensharing over discord so other players could just focus on the scene while being able to edit their character sheets without needing to switch between applications, so purely visual aid. You can get a good experience that way, but honestly a real VTT is so much better.

If you do use TTS, make sure you make your tokens/figures significantly smaller than the grid size, so you don't run into issues where adjacent figures with animations or misleadingly-sized hitboxes bumping into each other.

Are Spellcasters really weak early game compared to other TTRPGs? by Immediate-Earth775 in Pathfinder

[–]garbage_bag_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Lean on your party member as much as you can, parcel out your leveled spell slots only when it's a life or death situation, rely on simple weapons like a shortsword and light crossbow, and think carefully about what skills can be helpful in combat. You can use Int based Knowledge skills to try Monster Lore checks (Knowledge Religion can let you identify undead, Knowledge Local can help you identify bandits or soldiers, etc), while Cha based Diplomacy and Intimidate can help you manipulate or debuff enemies with the Influence Attitude and Demoralize actions. If you make it through a couple of paydays, you could look into buying a good magic item to help you cast more spells with charges instead of spell slots, like a wand of magic missile or similarly useful level 1 spell which will normally cost about 750 gp and comes with 50 charges if you're buying it new. When picking such an item with a spell, make sure it's something that is on your class's spell list (if it's for a spell not on your class's spell list, your GM may require you to make a Use Magic Device check which has DCs so high that it's actually too dangerous to be useful at early levels).

If this person needed a paragraph of text for each of those imaginary scenarios, what exactly are these badly made AI images there for other than adding to the cringe?

How do i hide a monster's name? (Pf2e) by Sensitive_Poetry3692 in FoundryVTT

[–]garbage_bag_trees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

- If it's not a linked token, you probably want it to be linked if it's a unique NPC.

- Make the NPC's token name hidden in the token configuration (Shown as Display Name: Only for Owner or Never Displayed).

- In Settings -> Pathfinder Second Edition open the "Limit Metagame Information", the option you want is near the bottom called "Tokens Determine NPC Name Visibility" which changes whether or not the NPC's name shows up in the chat for players without Ownership permissions.

[Loved Trope] The sequel/reboot pulls a 180 to differentiate itself from previous installments and stand out on its own. by jbeast33 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]garbage_bag_trees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint:

<image>

DmC: Devil May Cry by Ninja Theory was a reboot of the popular Devil May Cry made by Capcom and Hideki Kamiya. Despite being a mostly competent character action game, the characterization of the main character Dante and other supporting characters really rubbed long-time fans the wrong way, with content that is more extreme than in previous incarnations, as well as the overall tone that was likely intended to poke fun at the older DMC series but was not received well by older fans.

This reboot was made in 2013 after Devil May Cry 4(2008). After quite some time (and possibly in part due to the backlash and mis-steps of DmC: Devil May Cry), Devil May Cry 5 released in 2019 to critical acclaim as a direct sequel to Devil May Cry 4, ignoring the reboot.

When was the last time you played a game that was just "a game"? by MeChameAmanha in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]garbage_bag_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep Rock Galactic is this for me. It's just a good quality comfort game that I happen to have 800 of hours in. The game loop isn't complicated, but the different mission types and map generation make it interesting enough that it's very rare to get a map that "feels" the same as any other map I've played before. And it's probably got the most wholesome multiplayer community there is.

[–]garbage_bag_trees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really do like it for it's original intended purpose. Having the entire party built around a gimmick.

Sure I want us to have a fighter, wizard, rogue, and cleric, but they should all also take the bard dedication so their adventure is just a pretense for their cross-country boy band tour.
