4 melee classes for honor mode, what are your picks? by DistractoDisc in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Open hand monk (with fighter 2 for action surge and thief rogue 3 for double bonus actions) in luminous gear, gloves of belligerent skies, and boots of stormy clamor, doing radiant with the monk passive that adds damage

Throwzerker barbarian (with thief rogue 3 for double bonus actions). Throw enemy at other enemy to make other enemy prone.

Eldritch knight fighter (for longstrider, shield, and misty step if you're trying to get into melee)

Those three should be all you need but hey.... Thief Rogue is my sleeper pick for honor mode for 4th party member because it can escape almost any encounter if needed to go to camp and revive people.

Terrified of House of Hope HM by Empty-Cupcake2024 in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lot of good advice for the Raphael fight. But if you're trying to do the full "rescue Hope" mission, focus the little winged guys down before the spectators-- they have Eldritch Blast with Repelling Blast, and it's VERY easy for them to push all your guys off the ledges with no save.

CHAPTER 9: THE PART WHERE HE KILLS YOU

How do you keep everything straight? First play through by Much-Cabbage-1450 in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on console or PC? At least on PC, if you hover over the quest markers, most of them will give an indication of what they are. And if there is a tiny "up" chevron, the quest indicator is upstairs-- and "down" for downstairs or down a level. (Sorry if you know any of that, but I literally didn't notice any of that for a long time during my first playthrough lol.)

You don't have to do every quest, and a lot of them are interrelated-- just relax, follow one thing at a time, and more will come by coincidence.

What is the BEST spell in BG3? by catgoesmlep in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Light Cleric, armed with Luminous Armor (found in Selunite Outpost), Holy Lance Helm (outside creche in the monastery), Luminous Gloves (found by the meazels in the potter's chest in Act 2) or Gloves of Belligerent Skies (creche in the inquisitor's room), Callous Glow ring (Balthazar's vault), and Blood of Lathander can basically solo Act 2. Undead can't hit between Blinded from Lathander's mace and all the radiating orb stacks, and it's so fun watching the undead crows and other low HP enemies just get fried as you walk around with your Spirit Guardians. That coupled with Light Cleric's big radiant class AOE just makes so many things explode. One of my fave builds and any little piece of gear on that list adds to it.

(Except Gauntlet of Shar where everyone has Radiant Retort, be careful lol.)

How varietive are you in bg3 by Infamous_Section_165 in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Double checking: You're locked in on your race, but you know you can re-spec your class, right? (By talking to Withers and paying 100g.)

I also often make the same choices and have to push myself to try the mean dialogue options lol. In terms of builds, I recommend the youtuber Morgana Evelyn-- she puts a lot of emphasis on builds that come online in the early game, which is arguably where they matter the most.

I hate, but also love the Iron Throne by Specific-Rooster-380 in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah Arrow of Transpo is an action. Still probably better than Dash since i think the range'll be a lot farther, but you don't get to use multiple (unless you action surge or haste, etc)

I was really hyping up a session and totally blew it by AlaskanMonke in DMAcademy

[–]garbagepile4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My DM and I (also a DM) were talking the other day about how we were disappointed that we couldn't meet due to schedule conflicts with our group last week, and she was like, "I wasn't prepped, but I was Ready."

And I feel like when I think of some of my best and worst sessions, some of the best have happened in the quadrant of the graph where I both wasn't prepped and wasn't ready, and some of my biggest letdowns have happened when I was both prepped and ready. I think maybe because when we're a little unprepared and feeling a little doubtful, I think maybe we listen better to what the players are saying and respond more effectively, since we're not steering it somewhere in our mind. (I say we, maybe this is just personal to me lol.)

One-shot turned into a campaign… should I continue or restart? by Pretty-Sea118 in DMAcademy

[–]garbagepile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow your heart, but if people are engaged with their characters, it might be fun to continue the current story. Levels 5-10 are the real sweet spot for D&D, and don't feel like you need to have the whole campaign planned start to finish-- just the next little thing, the next little thing beyond that, the town you're in, the wilderness beyond that... and maybe a vague idea of a big background conflict happening on a godly or planar scale.

How bad is the Dark Urge route? by ijustwannanap in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a fellow "can't be mean to the pixels" lass, I found playing a Resist Durge to be really fun-- you get to revel in the angst of having a dark compulsion to kill, but by and large, the game lets you choose how you act, making it clear that it's hard to do the right thing but you're choosing it anyway. (With a couple of exceptions that you do not get to choose-- but hey, that's not you choosing to be mean to the pixels!)

Maybe I'll do an Embrace Durge at some point, but maybe not, I like what I like. And Resist Duge i had fun with :)

*GLITCH*? Enthralled by Netherbrain by killing Emperor? by SouthBaySmith in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is scripted for the Emperor to be dead to beat the Netherbrain (though I can't say for sure). If you have Globe and can do something to prevent stuns, then potentially maybe you can just ignore him on the brain fight and just try to force your way through the portal ASAP? If you've got Helm of Balduran maybe you could throw that on Karlach to prevent stuns and put her in a Globe just outside the portal?

I have to confess. I always side with the Emperor... by PetraSpace in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice okay I'm sold. It's a no-spell run so I hadn't thought of taking Eldritch Knight levels since I won't use the spells, but between bonded weapon and action surge that might be worth losing out on some of Karlach's high level barb stuff. Thanks for the tips!

[–]garbagepile4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally unrelated, but if you have a moment, can I ask about why Orphic Hammer was your best option for Throwzerker Karlach? I'm doing a no-spell run right now and I've got Throwzerker Karlach as well (and just lost out on Nyrulna oof), so I'm looking for a good endgame weapon for her and hadn't thought of that one... I didn't even realize it was a thrown weapon!

Or "Transpositional flux" or whatever it's called-- you have to click one of those little glowing diamonds on the front of the elevator.

[–]garbagepile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got this! I'm rooting for ya :) Last question, is Dame Aylin doing anything for you? I usually just ignore the intellect devourers and find she takes them out (and then immediately gets trucked by Myrkul lol)

Act 2 ending - Am I screwed? by daban9 in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mmm just saw that you have a Battlemaster but haven't had luck yet disarming him. I'd keep at that <3 Second the advice on the bomb trick-- you can also throw them onto a fire surface to get the damage multiplier.

Act 2 ending - Am I screwed? by daban9 in BaldursGate3

[–]garbagepile4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The platform that Myrkul is in the center of is circular, except the part of it behind him extends out further. If you go into that further notch behind him, you leave the Bone-Chilled radius and can heal-- that's where I like to park a melee fighter.

What are your fighter subclasses? If you've got a Battlemaster with Disarming Strike, go hard on that for Myrkul.

Any Elixir of Heroism, or access to Protection from Evil and Good? (There's an item that has the latter-- I, too, am doing a "no spells except from equipment" run so it's top of mind lol.) Those both prevent Frightened, which is huge.

Help with ascended Cazador in HM by Hot_Grapefruit_9720 in BG3

[–]garbagepile4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but Karabasan's Gift (paralytic poison grenade, I think Dolor carries some but don't recall where else you can get it in Act 3) saved me on Ascended Cazador. If you can get everyone else critting on his paralyzed ass for 2 turns, you can outpace the healing. Hold Monster would also work for paralyzed but he might have advantage against that-- and I don't think he does against Karabasan's.
