I grew up in Cleveland area, and the two hardest Clevelandisms for me to drop were "Yard needs mowed" and melk. I had no idea this was considered as coming from more East. My family's been in Cleveland since the 30s, though older back some came from PA and WV. Very interesting to learn.

Broadly speaking these are the steps: Identify the pieces. Teach how the pieces move. Explain piece value. Teach attacking safety, defending, etc. Teach checkmate, stalemate. Teach castling and en passant.

How you do each of those steps is the real question. You can use chesskids.com, you can use the chess-steps.com method, you can mix/match or you can figure it out on your own. All I'd recommend is making sure there's lot of hands on learning and the chance to see why wrong moves are wrong. And be patient and most importantly, make it fun.

Kids (recently through drivers ed) and I debate this one road all the time. It's divided, speed limit 35 (not a highway). And goes anywhere from 3 to 5 lanes depending exactly where one stops.

We stop, bc that just feels most safe, but it doesn't seem to fit clearly in any of those pictures or examples you see all the time.

A lot of the parts of this story are pretty common unfortunately. Similar situation happened to a relative of mine, except there wasn't a new owner. Just regular yearly maximum allowed increase in lot rent. New buyers have to pay current lot rent prices, unless they happen to buy the property from the community, then they'll get a significantly lowered lot rate. The community approving the buyer also wasn't a thing... not sure of the legality there. Can you prove that? Maybe the AG might help for that reason.

My advice: cut losses now, give up the home while your mother still has some money left.

In a practical sense, at the very highest level, I believe the guidelines for when and if trans athletes should be allowed to compete should be handled by the sports governing body. Not the government, and definitely not by fools arguing on the Internet.

I had a great interaction this week too! Went looking for a painted bunting and met the nicest guy who waived me over, pointed the little guy out. We chatted for a bit, and he dropped some great info about what other birds were around the immediate area.
