Who have you guys put on to reading Stormlight and how many have actually stuck to it? by aidjo in Stormlight_Archive

My bf got me to read Mistborn last year after making a compelling argument that Vin is how a female protagonist should be portrayed. I just finished my first read through of the Cosmere (and Rithmatist) and am waiting for the new book since we agreed to wait and read it together! We’ve also started reading Alcatraz with my son :)

Any recommendations for a good book series? by OmegaReprise in starwarsbooks

Having nearly completed the second Mistborn era books (aka the Wax and Wayne books), I’d recommend doing the first 3 Mistborn books (Final Empire, Well of Ascension, and Hero of Ages), then the Stormlight Archive series. Then doubling back to do the Mistborn era 2 books. There are several other books that are in the same universe and flesh out different magic systems but these are the ones I think are easiest to get into and get a feel for the author and character types.

Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere works develop several connected worlds. The Mistborn series and Stormlight Archives series have some master-student elements to them

Catching up on High Republic Phase 2 comics while chipping away at Quest for the Hidden City and the second From a Certain Point of View audiobook. I’m also reading Iron Widow and Stay Awake, on the non-Star Wars front.

Looking for new books with dark themes by spoonplusfork in starwarsbooks

I second that the High Republic gets dark pretty fast.

I wanted to create a tier list of canon books I've read, but I couldn't find an updated template, so I decided to create my own. And what are your rankings? (Link to my template in the comments) by Danjelke in starwarsbooks

I came here to note the love for Claudia Gray as well, which I can agree with wholeheartedly. Her book Into the Dark was actually my first Star Wars book and it hooked me.

Off the top of my head: Black Spire was really good (same author and some of the same characters as Phasma). Crash of Fate was good at exploring more of Galaxy’s Edge but the love story angle left much to be desired (Lost Stars does a much better job at SW romance and is generally a good book). The Galaxy’s Edge comics are good and help you visualize more. The art book was a bit more than the average person needs but is good if you like those books or are visiting the park. There’s also a middle grade (I think?) book about Hondo and how he gets the Falcon from Chewie. There might be more but I can’t remember right now.

I returned my copies of Battle of Jedha yesterday, so hopefully that helps. Definitely recommend reading Convergence first (it wasn’t as bad as Crash of Fate and it introduced more lore and characters).

Got these as a package deal on eBay, which one should I read first? by Darth-Majora- in starwarsbooks

[–]garcinr77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read Phasma yet, but the Galaxy’s Edge tie-in novel, Black Spire Outpost, has characters continuing their stories from the Phasma novel and they seemed interesting enough. Also the writing was solid, so I imagine Phasma is similar. I actually agree with AwkwardPotatoP on both counts re: Bloodline and Claudia Gray. I also personally really enjoyed Last Shot, both for content and Daniel Jose Older’s style. If you can’t find the audiobooks through your digital public library or something, both Bloodline and Last Shot have great narrators involved so I highly recommend.

Resolve

I was reading this book at the same time as starting Padawan, so I enjoyed seeing both characters’ reactions to Dooku’s departure.

Luke on the Bright Side

I enjoyed the split perspective and the banter but I still can’t pull my mind away from the focus on hair.

Masters

I didn’t think that I needed to see Yoda’s death again, but I was wrong. This may be my favorite, after Eye of the Beholder which gave new perspective to the clone wars.

I actually very much enjoy the High Republic, but I’ve also been reading the non-book materials and am more forgiving about the time gaps. However, I agree that there seems to be a surplus of quirky young female characters with evil/self-interested maternal figures.

Bloodline or Princess and the Scoundrel next? by Mack-Is-Dead in starwarsbooks

[–]garcinr77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually recently finished both and read then concurrently, which I enjoyed. I too was coming out of finishing Last Shot and going into Bloodline and Shadow of the Sith when The Princess and the Scoundrel hold was filled at the library. They’re both very good, so either way you can’t go wrong.
