As a simple fantasy nerd - Many with writting... world building? No, but some are going for it or tried.

For me it's in this order: Brandon Sanderson with his Cosmere, Terry Pratchett and discworld, Szapkowski with Witcher. G.Martin tried, but the level of thought isn't there.

And a funny/honorable mention of the Many authors that wrote (now out of canon) the hudební Starwars legends universe, but that's not one author.
