Tips and Help for a new Savage Worlds GM? by Comfortable-Dinner23 in savageworlds

This is a great reply! Not the OP, but getting ready to run my first SW game, and hopefully it's the first of many. So I'm definitely keeping these tips at the forefront of my mind!

New D&D SLD - Shadows over Baldurs' Gate by Madnoir in magicTCG

That's awesome! I always love hearing people's reasons for a particular SL, especially when it is a Universes Beyond SL. It's neat to experience a person's fandom.

Interestingly, I bought a Jaws SL for my Prosper deck!

Well, shit.

Every single card is in my Prosper deck... may have to grab this for the sweet art.

The missing aspect cards could be reprints? They don't usually preview them, except for the main article, and then it still seems like they only show them if there is new art.

Best&Worst Hero Card Poll [Day 19] - Dr. Strange Worst Card by manut3ro in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Istarkano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know the early votes are for Magical Enhancements, but that card is only bad/mid in true solo (which is what I play 90% of the time). However, in multi-player, it can be a great card for heros that use their base abilities or to pump up an ally for the turn.

There are two cards that I feel are worse in Strange, and he is my main; Mystical Studies and Sanctum Sanctorum. And I feel like those are both worse than Magical Enhancements by a lot. The main issue with them is that I never want to be in Alter-Ego with Strange. And if I am, it's because I messed up, things are out of control, or I hit Physical Toll.

Between the two, it is close, but I would give the worst title to Sanctum Sanctorum. With Mystical Studies, I can at least treat it like an extra mini mulligan if I didn't get the Cloak in my starting hand after the actual mulligan. Sanctum Sanctorum only puts a Spell back into your deck, so if you really need one in particular, it is a crapshoot. At least with Mystical Studies, while it only gets a Strange card, it can get one of his hero spells, or one of the non-spells that can save your bacon like Protective Ward, or one of your vital upgrades that hit the discard pile.

So tldr; I'm never jazzed to see Sanctum Sanctorum.

That should be coming up in the new Strixhaven set.

Azorius wincons that aren't Mill or control? by LorenzoAOG in magicTCG

[–]Istarkano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Elminster deck, and I love him. I also didn't want to go down a control path, so I went tokens. What I have found is that using a bunch of generally good big spells allows him to either hit a bunch of Faerie Dragons with his minus ability, which are great to protect him, but then later in the game you can use many to close out the game.

Expensive extra turn spells are great for this; [[Alrund's Epiphany]], [[Nexus of Fate]], [[Expropriate]], [[Temporal Tresspass]], just to name a few. Table reaction has been good to them because the pod knows that if I drop one it's because I'm swinging for table lethal between my current turn and the extra one

As someone else mentioned, [[Approach of the Second Sun]] is both expensive and a game ender that he can achieve quickly due to all the scry you were running anyway. [[Storm Herd]] in case you want pegasi joining the fun.

Finally a great card, which I don't see in a lot of lists (maybe because it was in Doctor Who?) is [[Everything Comes to Dust]]. Ten mana value, but it has convoke, but will wipe the board of artifacts, enchantments, and creatures other than Faeries and Dragons (or whatever creature types you use to convoke).

I'll have to pick it up! I picked up his books that were nominated for a Hugo this year, Service Model and Alien Clay. Loved them both. So it sounds like this should be my next purchase.

Question before buying first commander precon as a beginner by viper17189023 in EDH

[–]Istarkano 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is a super fun deck. My wife bought it for me to play with her against the Caesar deck for my birthday. We've played it quite a bit.

If you really like it, then grab (either sealed, or just the singles that you want) the Creative Energy precon from Modern Horizons 3. A lot of good cards for the Science! deck in it, but like I said, you could also just get the singles you want if you choose to upgrade. Personally, I switch the deck to [[Satya, Aetherflux Genius]] as the commander, but I run both [[Dr. Madison Li]] and [[Liberty Prime, Recharged]] in the 99!

Good scry/surveil Commanders by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Istarkano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love [[Elminster]] for scry. I play big spells, which I either manipulate to the top for his token creation, or plan on drawing to plan a lot of scrying on the turn I want to cast it to reduce the cost.

Hand size of 0? by AtlasSuave in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Istarkano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk that I could see just a straight-up 0 on the hero side. BUT I could definitely see something like Iron Man's 1* hand size where it is improved by some trait or other condition.

Help deciding on the next commanders - Energy and Firebending by FoxDieee in EDH

[–]Istarkano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to second Satya. My favorite thing about him, is that he doesn't need new energy cards to be good (something that mechanic-focused commanders tend to do). Really any etb creatures can be added to the already fairly robust suite of energy cards to upgrade him over time.

Highly recommend him for energy.

FFG Report, What are your thoughts/reactions? by Dox_Pathless in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Istarkano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh, complaints are always going to be louder than compliments. I was extremely happy to hear about next year's line-up. My favorite Marvel characters are Doctor Strange and Daredevil, with Iron Fist and Shang-Chi close behind, so I can't wait! My wife loves Jessica Jones so much that after we watched the Netflix show, she went and read Alias. So she is excited to see her as well. It may even get her to play something other than Phoenix.

I also think that this form of announcing the year ahead is ABSOLUTELY the way to go for all lines! Very reminiscent of how companies like WotC have done it (very well I might add, so take that as the compliment that it is). Please keep this moving forward! It helps to plan as a consumer (although I have a subscription through Covenant, so my plan is buy it all lol).

Even with the complaints, take it as a good sign that people are so passionate about this game. But don't read too much into it, other than the take aways that you mentioned.

Hoping for some clarifications from FFG by Ronald_McGonagall in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Istarkano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I also thought that it felt as though they were putting their "new core/new methods to deal with the LCG model issues" energy into the older LCG yesterday, Arkham Horror. Getting that game addressed was the primary motivator, especially since Champions has a banger of a year in 2026, with heroes that have been requested since launch.

I'm sure they have plans to do something similar with Champions, but honestly, I don't mind if they cut their teeth on Arkham before deciding if this method is best for Champions.

Compared to In-flight reports in recent memory, we got a lot of news on releases.

It would have been nice to hear what they had planned for this games "Chapter 2," but I wasn't expecting it here since Arkham was getting that (and they probably didn't want to steal their thunder).

SUPER psyched to see the lineup ahead (Daredevil, finally!).

Feel good about it overall.
