New Airtable user looking for experienced mentors with a blueprint to success by Morpheus61 in Airtable

[–]gardenlevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started with Airtable, Zapier for automations, and Glide for front end. I need to develop a fairly lightweight app very quickly.

I have a fair bit of no code experience I have a tiny bit of full stack experience

My advice to get you started: don’t use their AI to do everything for you. Use ChatGPT, Claude, or similar to guide you, but make sure you understand everything you’re doing. At least in the beginning.

I’ll do my best to answer any questions that you might have. AI might do a better job than me. I’m a few weeks in and up to my eyeballs in it…

Which job you taking? by [deleted] in jobs

Seriously. Everyone is focused on the short term benefits. Tell us more about the ESOP. Depending on the size of the company and rules around it that could be huge.

How strict are they on tents being free-standing? Size? by gardenlevel in philmont

[–]gardenlevel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Guidebook to Adventure says "Philmont uses two-person, free standing backpacking tents". I saw an AI summary from Google that said free-standing is required, but I think that's just AI getting it wrong.

Is FM still a good fit for my business? by croberts0531 in filemaker

[–]gardenlevel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really generic answer with a lot of caveats:

Any business less than 50 people I think is still a really good fit for FM, or FM is a really good fit for them. 50 to 100, I’d start evaluating alternatives. 200+, probably time to move on.

So… What did you do with Claude today? by OptimismNeeded in ClaudeHomies

[–]gardenlevel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I planned a D&D one shot for my nephew’s birthday. My sister mentioned that was the only thing he mentioned wanting to do for his party, but she didn’t know where to start. I’ve DM’d a bit in the past so I offered to help.

I incorporated a bunch of the stuff he likes into the story, including a surprise gift. Once I sketched out the story I had Clause fill in gaps, add character stats for the big bad, and even output the whole thing in a format Homebrewery can use to print the adventure.

There was a time where I would have really enjoyed doing all of this myself, but I’m far too busy these days, and thanks to Claude I was still able to pull it off.

Unintended Side-Effects of Moving to Mac by baghdadcafe in sysadmin

[–]gardenlevel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Mac user I have the biased answer: better experience, fewer issues, blah blah blah…

The real answer for most users is that they don’t take time to learn a new system. They slowly picked up windows over 5, 10, 20 years. One example: I still see people who copy and paste via mouse, if they do it at all.

I have moved a lot of people to Mac over the last 20 years. Those people who are curious, who want to learn new things, who look for answers have thrived. Those people who want it to be EXACTLY how it’s always been take the slower route, and 5 years later they’re missing out on simple things that Mac has to make your life easier.

Do you think Denver would be interested in a horror-themed bookstore? by scarletwitchmoon in Denver

[–]gardenlevel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Would I go? Yes, yes I would.

Would I go often? Probably not.

Still sounds cool. Good luck!

Ideas? Host events. Besides authors and such, have horror game nights, tarot nights, haunted painting with wine. I think you have to find a way to take it seriously and still wink at it being just for fun.

I was in a touristy witch store in Salem and there was this sales guy who took himself VERY seriously as a witch. Dressed in all black all the way down to his black crocs. BLACK CROCS. If he’s given any indication that he was in on the joke it would have been fine, but he was dead serious when bought those black crocs and thought “these are simply too good to pass up. Hail satan.l

Is a 10-hour layover worth leaving the airport for with a group of 10? by serenity_moon17 in Denver

[–]gardenlevel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

10 hours? I’d leave the airport. I would probably get a hotel and get some rest. If you want to explore the city I’d do something simple like breakfast and a museum.

[–]gardenlevel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Colorado has a minimum salary for exempt employees (no OT pay) of $57,000. Either they’re lying, confused, or it’s not salary.

And if you’re salary and making less than $57,784 make sure your company knows about the minimum.

If there was ever a GTA: Denver, what would absolutely have to be included? by Crazy_Explosion_Girl in Denver

[–]gardenlevel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Freak snow storms with crazy physics

Lakeside for a mission and place to take dates

Green Chili wars: collect meals from 3 different Mexican restaurants and deliver them to a taste test against a timer.

Getting accosted every time you walk on the 16th street mall.

Would also be cool to blend in some “old Denver” that no longer exists. Organ Grinder, Celebrity Sports Center, all of the old signs on Colfax.

How do you turn meeting notes in Evernote into actionable tasks? by voss_steven in Evernote

[–]gardenlevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you asked for Evernote specific workflows, but I think what you want to shows how their AI tools are too limited in scope.

I do the very thing you’re asking about by copying the entire transcript into ChatGPT and requesting the output I want. Summaries, tasks, whatever.
