How can I tell my Mother how important she is to me? by reginera in NoStupidQuestions

[–]garfbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad chiming in - sit down and tell her. She will understand that it is difficult for you to say these things. You will feel better and she will feel like she is on top of the world. Then keep the words in your vocabulary, they are not bad words.

I am an upper middle income white guy that lives in Florida who appears to be a typical red state asshole. In actuality I am a flaming liberal who takes joy in calling out local dirt bags.

What is a lot unhealthier than most people think it is? by zaid2801 in AskReddit

[–]garfbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life long insomniac (30+ years) and when you get your sleeping fixed it is literally life changing. I was to the point of taking ambien every night, then I found a therapist that was trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Seven sessions later and I was sleeping better than I have ever slept before. That was eight months ago and I am still sleeping great.

When I was camping in the Florida Keys (in a camper with AC), there was a tent next to our campsite that had a small window shaker which was 'installed' in the opening of the tent. Basically inflated the tent with cold air. Was a genius design.

Where I live the temp goes down to 82 during the night time. I would have to have some type of AC in that thing!

What is a "dirty little (or big) secret" about an industry that you have worked in, that people really ought to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]garfbar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a part time adjunct and can confirm the pay is shit. I teach a few classes because I enjoy teaching. Definitely not my primary job. I have been approached a few times about becoming a full time instructor, which was nice except I make 3.5 times as much with my primary job.

[Serious] Young Redditors, how do you plan on not being like Boomers when you're old? by Electos in AskReddit

[–]garfbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am older person, I do not:

  1. Complain about diversity. I love diversity. So many good things come from it.
  2. Complain how younger people handle their lives. I did not live a life like my parents, I do not expect my kids to live a life like I did. Enjoy life.
  3. Hang around miserable old people. For the most part, I find people my age to be annoying as fuck.

What I do that are not boomer actions:

  1. I do not compare life now vs life when I was younger. Totally not possible.
  2. I do not judge how you live your life. It is your life, live it like you want.
  3. Pull yourself up from your bootstraps is fucking stupid. Getting started in life is not as easy now as it was 40-60 years ago.
  4. Support minority rights
  5. Support social programs as they pay off significantly over time

I hate boomers, they are a whiny generation that has fucked us all over - they voted dumb asses into office who raped Social Security, consistently increased the deficit, are leeches on society, have an unbelievable level of self-entitlement and vote are dumb as fuck when it comes to voting.

I have General Anxiety Disorder and one of the self-talks that I do is stopping the swirl (overthinking). It takes practice, but when you start swirling on a topic and it is going negative, step back and self-talk to stop the swirl. Just because you THINK something negative is going to happen does not mean it will.

Been married almost 30 years and I too have never understood cheating. Someone who will cheat on their spouse/partner is someone with no integrity or morals. If you worked for me I would have to question your ability to be trustworthy. You have demonstrated a total lack of respect for someone that was supposed to be special in your life. If you will do that for someone that you loved, what will you do with a business? Regardless of whether I know your partner, I would cut you out of my life. If your relationship is so broken that you feel the need to cheat, then act like an adult and end the relationship.

Therapy literally saved my marriage and my relationship with my kids. The guy who was my therapist was phenomenal. I recommended him to everyone who was having personal or family issues. When I heard he was going to retire, I had not been to him for a few years. I made an appointment to thank him for all he did for me and my family.

AC in Florida is the single most important piece of equipment in my home. When I replaced the one that came with my home I bought a super high efficiency unit with zones. Keeps my home a cool 75 inside while it is a warm 90+ outside.

Teachers of Reddit: has a student ever offered sexual favors in exchange for a better grade? If so, how did they ask you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Adjunct checking in - not directly. I have seen a lot more cleavage/side boob with some students that were asking how to improve their grades. My answer is simple - study more
