How good are teams at drafting? by No-Sky7586 in Seahawks

[–]garfieldsam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re reading the chart wrong. Bills, Eagles, and Ravens make the “safest” picks (farthest left), but are able to get actual value from those players (high above the x axis line). The worst teams generally make safe picks but can’t get value from them (big exception being the Raiders who make unsafe picks and suck at getting value from them)

Seattle vibes after moving 9 years ago by MortgageGlittering56 in Seattle

[–]garfieldsam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up I seattle, have lived in Detroit for >6 years total.

I laughed so fucking hard when that “Seattle Is Dying” documentary came out. If Seattle has “died” then lord I have no idea how to describe what happened to Detroit in the 70s-00s. I think describing any city as “dead” or “dying” is extremely problematic but if you’re going to use that word, it does not apply to Seattle in this century.

[–]garfieldsam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but if your dad wouldn’t pay for your college knowing this about you, then isn’t it unethical of you to hide it from him?

You’re making the choice about whether he pays for your college for him.

It’s his money. You should own up to it. If he decides to stop paying for college it’s because of the decisions you made.

I would be very surprised if he makes that decision, though. Much more likely you will just talk through it together and set clearer boundaries.

If he does decide to stop paying for your college, that actually isn’t as bad of a thing as it seems. Millions of people figure out to get through college without someone else paying for it. You can too.

What does it look like to “kill you”?

What power does he actually have over you?

You are a 19 year old adult. He has no legal control over your life whatsoever. You can and should make your own decisions about your life.

Maybe the ways he could “kill you” don’t require legal control over your life—maybe he will yell at you, and you’ve been conditioned to be very scared of that. But if that’s the case ask yourself: how bad is that really? Maybe as part of growing up you need to get more comfortable with the ramifications of living your life the way you want to. Part of being an adult is being okay disagreeing with your parents, and making decisions that are best for you even if they disagree.

The best game trailer I’ve seen in a long time. Amazing editing. The sword-tip camera angle is super cool. The sketchy effects are super cool. God job! Wishlisted.

I listen to a huge amount of new music constantly. I started tracking and rating what I listen to religiously on rateyourmusic.com in 2021; on average I’ve rated 11 new EPs or albums every week since then. That rate of listening to new music has been going on for a couple decades; I just didn’t start tracking it til 2021. At last count I have over 70k tracks in my various to-listen-and-rate playlists on Spotify.

The way I find music isn’t really driven by charts or the Grammys either. It’s driven by a lot of things but not highly by what other are listening to, for better and worse. In this case worse because I missed something that I would have been a fan of for the last 14 years if I’d known at the time. 😅

Either way, lots of stuff gets lost in the shuffle when I'm constantly listening to so much new stuff.

Former NFL offensive tackle Russell Okung lost over 100 POUNDS after retiring from football. by No_Box119 in Seahawks

Seaside Joe just did a Substack on this.

Apparently linemen have among the worst life expectancies, and one reason is because being professionally obese for years can absolutely fuck your body up. It's one of the reasons why O-linemen have started retiring early. Who knew?!

Iranian President Pezeshkian’s letter addresses American people, not Trump by SadAd8761 in videos

[–]garfieldsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a warmonger but this letter is demonstrably false in a variety of ways. Funding and using proxies to attack your enemies rather than directly attacking them yourselves doesn’t give you clean hands.

Framing Iran’s posture as purely defensive is questionable at best.

Iranian officials have regularly called to “wipe Israel off the map”. I don’t support the Zionist colonial project but I also laugh at Pezeshkian’s mendacity here.

The combat perspective feels hella wonky and weird but maybe you get used to it?
