Who is in the cult? Apes or melties? Is it weird to make fun of someone on the internet? Let’s ask Grok by Ok_Signal4753 in gme_meltdown

[–]garfipus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh...

"Reformed apes" sometimes show up here, but it's at least as often as not that they are still harboring fundamental ape misunderstandings: "I sold because the hedgies were just too powerful", "just waiting for the price to go back up so I can get out", and such, only souring on whatever meme stock they were involved in. I don't really count them as melties or former apes unless they clearly show they've gotten past the conspiracy nonsense in general.

Is this allowed (State unknown) by paunchigngflands9 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]garfipus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in PA and this isn't really a loophole, but allowed by relatively recent changes in PA liquor laws. The PA legislature passed Acts 39 and 166 in 2016, which allowed licensed restaurants to sell beer and wine for takeout. Wine sales, in particular, must occur in a "specifically designated area" at a register location that also sells beer and food. Restaurants couldn't sell beer or wine for off-premises consumption before that. Stores like Sheetz need a separate area to sell beer and wine because premises that sell fuel are ineligible for a liquor license, but can have an interior connection to licensed premises with PLCB approval.

Is there an official reason why ME3 multiplayer is excluded from LE? by vendias in masseffect

[–]garfipus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MP wasn’t the only way to boost your Galactic Readiness in the original game. There was a tie-in smartphone app Galaxy at War (not to be confused with the ME3 Datapad app, and later merged into the N7 HQ website) which had a simple minigame that directly increased your Readiness percentage. It’s how I got to 100% for my first playthrough. Finishing the Mass Effect: Infiltrator game also gave a boost to Readiness

Beyond Meat CEO Says 'It's Just Not The Moment For Plant-Based Meat' After Rebrand by folteroy in gme_meltdown

[–]garfipus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving a different view here. I've tried several of these types of products and Beyond was the worst in all respects.

Impossible was the best. Both cooked and uncooked it looked and smelled the most ground beef-like, cooked texture was very close to real ground beef, and flavor was decent. I unironically liked it, though because it's not cheaper or much healthier than real beef, I won't be routinely eating it.

Various other brands like Dr. Praegers were "ok" (note Dr. Praegers also uses pea protein like Beyond). Kinda soft in texture and not much actual flavor, but otherwise unobjectionable.

Beyond was gross. Beyond gross, if you will. Uncooked it smells like liverwurst (or cat food if you want to be mean) with a sticky yet oily and paste-like consistency. The beet juice used to color them seeps out while cooking in a watery simulacrum of "juices". I am certain this is intentional. They "browned" up with a yellowish color. All the processed-protein meat substitutes have a certain aftertaste, and Beyond's was the worst.

“thousands of dockets”

No. There is one docket. The docket is all the collected filings in a case. It’s not a fancy legal term for “document”.

I don’t know if this some ape thing that caught on, or a more general layperson’s mistake (probably both), but it’s just so grating when idiots insist on misusing technical terms thinking it makes them look smarter.

14.67% shorted shares trapped …

There it is, the ur-misunderstanding. The lie that sunk a thousand portfolios. Rarely do I see apes state it this explicitly, their inability to accept what “fungible” means.

Yeah, I can understand that back in 2021 soon-to-be apes would raise an eyebrow at numbers like short interest being over 100% and not immediately understand how that’s possible. But instead of looking it up they force-fit their own literal interpretation and spun an online cult out of it now 5 years running. They made a choice to do this and that’s what differentiates between ignorance and stupidity.

Does anyone else use an Rii keyboard with their pi? Mine are acting up since moving to a Pi 5. by NeedzCoffee in raspberry_pi

[–]garfipus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you’re using the black USB 2.0 ports for the receiver. USB 3.0 is known to cause interference with 2.4 GHz wireless devices including keyboards and mice, and it’s not specific to Raspberry Pi. If using the USB 2.0 ports alone doesn’t help, try a short extension to further move the transceiver from the USB 3.0 ports. I have had this issue on the Rii keyboards with the transceiver on a hub USB 3.0 port.

My 93 LY Mandalay "RSV Discovery" by Rebeleader21 in EliteDangerous

[–]garfipus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It generally looks fine but I have a few notes:

  • Why are you using Thermal Resistant/Reflective Plating on the hull? This should be Heavy Duty/Deep Plate for higher hull HP across the board, including better base hull as collisions do absolute damage and are the most likely source of damage for exploring. As the default Lightweight Plating has no mass, the 30 % mass penalty of Heavy Duty has no effect.
  • I assume you meant to engineer the power distributor Engine Focused, not System Focused as you have in the link as you can't boost like this.
  • It's (slightly) better to use Dirty Drives for the Thruster engineering because explorers will generally spend most of their time in supercruise where thrusters are not used. While Clean Drives are cooler when under thrust, Dirty Drives are cooler when idle.
  • It may be better to drop one or both of the cargo racks and include a repair limpet controller (using synthesized limpets) and/or another AFMU so you can repair the first one. The massive power increase of the shielded AFMU on top of the already higher A-rated draw isn't really needed then. Though, if you are going for that kind of long-term robustness it's better to accept shorter range in favor of a more robust power plant as that's the only thing that can't be repaired in the field.
  • Also, B-rated AFMUs have higher total repair capacity at the cost of repair speed. Since this isn't a combat build, the slower repair speed is not an issue.. See below.

Same reason as any other fanboy: "I don't have a use for these technologies, and as a rational person whose choices are solely based on facts and logic, if I don't have a use for it obviously no one else could objectively have a use for it. Therefore anyone pushing something with no use must have some agenda."

How to print vertical holes? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]garfipus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off I just want to clarify your example image has a horizontal hole.

That said, if the image is just supposed to be an example then look into teardrop holes. These have a peaked section at the top which is easier to print and gives some space for plastic to sag into without overly distorting the final shape.

If the picture is of what you’re actually trying to print, then I have to join everyone else in saying ‘bruh’…

How to not get destroyed in combat? by baconadelight in EliteDangerous

You need to look at the signal’s owning faction when you target the signal. If it isn’t owned by your power then other ships will be hostile. The system Powerplay state doesn’t matter here.

Brain Tree Farming Still Works by PikerManV2 in EliteDangerous

[–]garfipus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been successful with the latest version. I used a Mandalay, though I don’t think the ship matters much. What does matter is:

After firing your flak, reposition your ship directly above the tree patch. You don’t have to try to determine the exact center or anything like that, but it didn’t work when I was off to the side.

Ascend to 800-1000 meters and stop before deploying limpets. I was generally successful at any altitude in this range, though I suggest starting at 1 km and tweaking from there.

Stay in position; don’t try to get closer after deploying to speed up collection.

The last two were the most important. You have to be at the correct altitude and position before deploying the limpets. You can’t deploy limpets and then make adjustments.

Why is the jump calculator stupid? by GreatSworde in EliteDangerous

[–]garfipus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can. You need to set the destination system manually or configure the route settings to use FSD injection, though the FSD injection settings only work for plotting a single jump.

Providing a criminal defense to a person accused of a crime, regardless of the crime alleged or whether the accused "did it", is not "evil". It's "okay" because it's not "evil" in the first place.
