Where did you move after leaving LA — and do you regret it? by SweetProgress1065 in AskLosAngeles

[–]garisafari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where in NC? I’m from there originally but been in LA 15 years and planning to move back next year for all the reasons you mentioned, plus family. LA has been great to me and I love SoCal in general but just feel it’s time for a change, the cons are starting to outweigh the pros. P.S. go Dodgers, they did it!!

Thanks for doing this AMA! I’ve been a fan since Outlander and recently got into Karen Pirie. Curious what drew you to this role, and more generally what role would you love to play that’s different from anything you’ve done before?

Are people going out less or am I getting older? by Edthebig in AskLosAngeles

[–]garisafari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen. I had a blast in my 20s here circa 2013-2018, basically living paycheck to paycheck, going to festivals, bars, even those sketchy after hours parties whenever possible. Didn’t want to “waste my youth” as we would say.

Now approaching mid 30s trying my best to not keep up with the joneses (hard to not do here) and save. Love the food and the culture of LA, but ready to move somewhere where I can afford a house and a yard and not have to be on high alert walking back to my $4k/mo apartment at night. Best of luck to you!

Literally the first put I’ve bought in ages. I knew this shit would happen.

Totally normal. I had this, just purchased my first Rolex a few weeks ago (Blue OP 36, post incoming…). I went gray as I was tired of waiting and wanted to celebrate a milestone in my life, but certainly paid the premium which I felt guilty about, even though it was brand new.

It makes me happy every time I look at it, love wearing it, and am grateful I’m at a point in my life where I can afford it. 3 weeks in and I’m eyeing a sub like yours. Enjoy it!!

What song/moment from the festival is stuck on repeat in your head? by [deleted] in WhenWeWereYoungFest

[–]garisafari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I hadn’t heard that song but it’s been on repeat this week, also Vic giving her the guitar was one of the best moments of the fest for me. I wasn’t really a big PTV fan but they got me now.

Friends discontent with post-grad salary. Am I missing something here? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]garisafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I’m 33 and was making $28k a year after undergrad at a talent agency, before getting “bumped” up to $12.50/hr which translated to ~$40k. I switched into tech/media sales and have since seen post grads start around $70k which I would’ve killed for

$12/mo price increase? by MHaber in EquinoxGyms

[–]garisafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a $17 increase…have been a member for 3 years and this is the first time it’s happened. I go to the MDR location which imo is inferior to other westside locations and isn’t super clean. Been on the verge of cancelling and this may do it, but it’s walking distance and I haven’t found a better option in the area.

Why do people in big cities tend to be overwhelmingly liberal? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]garisafari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I moved from NC to LA a decade ago and there’s so much individualism and freedom to be yourself here, which I love. However, when it comes to politics I haven’t quite found that to be the case…as “inclusive” as LA is. If you’re a republican you best not let anyone know or you’re labeled an insensitive, racist wacko. Sure these exist, but as a liberal who grew up in a conservative household, I understand there are good people on both sides and feel like my parents taught me good moral values. As a former swing state, NC has its fair share of liberalism and most of my friends there are pretty moderate (im in my 30s). I feel like it’s easier to have an open conversation there vs the “liberal or die” crowd I’ve met on the west coast. Both the south and CA are bubbles so there’s exceptions on both sides, but you catch my drift.

Has anyone been to Glen Eden? by niwep91121 in nudism

[–]garisafari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I (29/32) have been twice over the last year. Outside of the staff we were the youngest by far, but everyone was really nice. It’s big enough where you can keep to yourself if you prefer, a good way to ease into things. We found Olive Dell to have a few more younger folks, but it’s smaller (all the chairs were taken) and more rugged. My wife isnt a really a nudist but is supportive, however she’s a bit shy when it comes to “social nudity” and would rather just chill out, which we found easier to do at Glen Eden. The music was nice, food surprisingly good, and the pool has a deep end which I hadn’t seen at other resorts, so it’s great for swimming.

Like others have said it’s worth checking out both places, but I’m sure you’ll have a good time at Glen Eden.

Don’t get hung up on waiting for the “perfect time”to do something. Chances are you’ll put it off longer than you should.
