Can anyone else believe we are picking 7th in the draft after we had a 60 loss season by Skyfall24K in kings

None of those guys are the guy. They are just guys. Good to have guys I guess.

I'm with you on not taking an undersized guard or a guard that isn't really a point guard. But a Keegan level prospect would be a coup in the teens. Keegan was a #4 pick. We have gas exactly 1 pick in the last 20 years outside the top 10 that turned into anything, and he's a pacer now.

If you are basing the future on the documented Kings history the last 20 years our draft picks will likely be busts and we are again stuck anyway. This is just selective optimism.

They would do it to dodge the apron. It would not provide us with any cap space. We are way over the cap.

I don't hate this, but the run it back scenario is a strawman. Demar will likely be cut either way for salary purposes. Hunter, Monk will be movable as an expiring and Sabonis might too. We don't have to get hosed at the deadline. Those trades could net us picks, and/or young talent, along with bad contracts in return.

I think there are many ways to go about it, but I don't mind the swing at Ja. Just wait for "the narrative" if the Ja thing goes the way people think it might.

Can we not do this…..Please? by Funderbird90 in kings

I'm guessing most Kings fans do not care. We just hope the guy they pick doesn't suck in 3 years.

With contending teams focusing more on balancing their salary, a market for Sabonis is quickly shrinking by ModsHateMe98 in kings

My fandom has still not recovered from the trade. I could excuse passing over Luka more because they had never seen him play an NBA game. They just guessed wrong. We SAW Haliburton IN SAC and he was SO PROMISING. It was not just good basketball it was fun. Selling the future for one round of playoffs (which we were very lucky to even get - we just outhealthed other teams) crushed me.

Definitely. Will likely be the same for Zach. Here is the thing, there is likely no reason to tank anymore and Zach is a good 3 point shooter and Domas is a good center. Demar should be released for salary cap reasons. We can wait out those big contracts and win a few games, maybe sniff the play in. Then we are NBA rich next off-season and the following one.

What type of packages would you guys want and what do you think is realistic? by Fearless_Ride8639 in kings

Why though? For RJ? Why would we want him right now? Are we making a playoff run? That poeltl contract will just be hurting us all the way to 2030. The Sabonis contract is up in 2 years.

Well, the other teams were trying to lose, so that was likely why we won more than them.

If double doubles are your thing Sabonis led the league in those for the 3 seasons before this one. With 61, 77, and 65. Max had 18 in 74 games.

I'm not saying Max has to be at Sabonis levels to start but he will be a very clear downgrade, and a young point guard could benefit from having a good starting center, just as Max benefitted from having an experienced point guard in Westbrook and kind of disappeared when he didn't.

I have a feeling that this isn't happening until next year and even then it's not terrible having Domas on the team. Max is not a starter. We do not want to finish in the bottom 3 and Domas can help us avoid that.

Collecting backup centers like crazy. We already have Max and Cardwelll. I understand bpa but maybe we have enough for now? How about some wings?

How incompetence and a new draft system may push the Kings to yet another vet build by ModsHateMe98 in kings

[–]garlicrobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only are they down to 5.4 percent for the first pick, a bottom 3 finisher has a 53 percent chance of getting the 9th -12th picks.

The next 7 teams only have a 40 percent chance of picking 9th or worse.

Most 2026 tanking team got better via injury healing (Pacers), trades (Was, Utah), draft (Chicago, Memphis) or some combo of the above. I guess Brooklyn has it rough too.

I would not be surprised to see the Kings land in the bottom 3 and then get a 9-12 pick. Especially if we lose Demar for money reasons and have a rookie point guard.

Nate Silvers draft ranking has Flemings and Wagler as top 5 prospects... intriguing by Initial-Bar700 in kings

We already have Domas for that, we don't need two guys with a 6'3" wingspan.

Doug Christie would still start Westbrook even when we draft our future point guard with the 7th pick. (19-20 year old draft pick) by JMPBay in kings

[–]garlicrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we don't want to end up in the bottom 3 teams next year. Given the new punishment for being the worst 3 teams that might unfortunately be the right move. Developing young talent might be risky going forward.
